great players have the ability to rise in the occassion over and over again, may not be great during the firts half but down the stretch, that what makes them great, mj,great?nah...greatest!lol
Its funny how everyone says Kobe will never be this good and they dont understand that kobe isn't done yet Kobe has won titles without Shaq (Jordan never won without Pippen) Kobe is prob on his way to 40K career points and when its all said and done he might win a title without Phil Jackson as coach and he might win more titles than Jordan.....As of this very day MJ=GOAT in the future the debate may change, but i know one thing for sure they did win Phil alot of BLING!!! GO LAKERS 3-PEAT
@TexasRaTleSnake316 But shaq was the leader of that team. Kobe has had time to win without shaq & plus gasol should of been finas mvp last season. The lakers frontline is BY FAR the best in the nba with the back up of odom & size is hugh when it comes to winning rings. MJ never needed a true big to win rings, yeah he did have pippen but MJ was clearly the leader of all 6 rings. Just kobe won without shaq & MJ didn't win without pippen doesn't make better then MJ.
@TexasRaTleSnake316 Duncan won twice without d.robinson so is he better then MJ? NO. Dude just think if MJ didn't retire those 2 times in 93 & 98 how many rings & accomplishments would he have. It would be crazy to think, probably 9 rings. MJ's career pts total would be around 42 to 43,000 pts. & he has the highest ppg in the reg. season, playoffs, & nba finals in nba history. That's not mentioning the other accomplishments that MJ has. Kobe will never match em which is y we say kobe will never
@hangtime23ful awww come on you cant throw Duncan into this convo, my main point in saying that is Scottie Pippen is the most underrated basketball player of all time because he had to live in Jordans shadow, not to mention how overlooked Rodman was in their final 3-peat, as far as all the what ifs everyone throws out like what if he didnt retire and all this it doesnt matter fact is he DID retire and the rockets got rings those years not the bulls...besides ive already said it MJ=GOAT "TODAY"
@TexasRaTleSnake316 He gets owned by a lotta guys not just me & he makes himself look bad. So u kinda misunderstood me but sorry for misunderstanding u though.
@TexasRaTleSnake316 be better then MJ. In responds to ur other comment to me abouts MJ's quote. Yeah he missed 26 game winners but kobe still has played less games & he's missed 53 i believe which WAY more then other person in nba history. He's 29% in that situation for his career while MJ is 56.9%. MJ missing 9000 shots doesn't even compare to when kobe becomes the guy with the most missed shots ever.
@hangtime23ful WOW you missed the WHOLE POINT of that quote, the point is it doesn't matter how much he fails because he is still great and even though he fails he gets back up and does something to make up for it, I really dont know where you got Kobe has missed 53 game winners i dont even think Kobe has ATTEMPTED 53 game winners much less missed that many, besides in the end yea Kobe might have most missed shots but he will probably also have most field goals made and attempted
@TexasRaTleSnake316 I've look it up & i'm not the only guy on here that knows that. Yes kobe has missed around 53 it may not be the exact number but its around there. He has BY FAR takin the most game winning shot attempts. He has 24 made, 27 if u include free throws. The reason y i mentioned that kobe is on the his way in nba history for the most game winning misses ever was cuz i was debating against some hugh kobe homer named "tiger1649".
@TexasRaTleSnake316 do you realize that MJ has played less games than kobe has right now? Can your thick skull comprehend how huge this is? MJ has achieved so much more than Kobe in less time. Kobe can score 60k points for all I care...the fact is that MJ scored those 32k faster than any1 ever did. MJ is flawless when it comes to finals. MJ has 6 finals MVps and 5 MVPs, 2 dunk,1 DPY,10 scoring titles...the list goes on....all of that WITH LESS GAMES THAN KOBE. Now can you see the difference?
@blackadam06 You're a dummy buddy... Every1 including your MJ needs some1 good on their team. Shaq was a top 50 player but the last 3 finals Kobe has won with a much less dominant player. Scottie Pippen is probably top 5 all time defender and a top 50 player overall... Don't even try convincing us that Gasol is top 50 all time. Did you see softy Gasol crumble in this years playoffs? That alone shows the greatness of Kobe Bryant to win with someone who crumbles that easy.
"Every1 including your MJ needs some1 good on their team"
Who said otherwise? I didn't..
My point is that "other good person" on MJ's teams NEVER consistently outperformed him in the biggest games or the finals, like in they have in kobe's case.
Speaking of Gasol, he for the last 3 seasons has had the BEST +/- (positive vs negative) on-court production for LA, while kobe only ranks 5th
Normally on the top teams, the franchise/best player has the best +/- #s (which was the case with the other top teams), but looking at LA, Pau ranks #1, then Odom, Fisher, Artest, and lastly Kobe..SMH
That means "individually speaking", they did a BETTER job at contributing MORE positive production to the team's output than he did LOL!!
"Did you see softy Gasol crumble in this years playoffs?"
Are U kiddin me? LOL!!
22ppg on 43% shooting <--- kobe in the 2011 playoffs LOL!!
He was a COMBINED 14-44 (31%) in ALL of the 4th qtrs of the Mavs series, scores only scored 2 pts the ENTIRE 2nd HALF of an ELIMINATION GAME while being guarded by a 38 yr old Jason Kidd, as his team got blown out by 36 & swept out the playoffs.
And U got the nerve to call kobe's play "great" & Gasol's "soft"?
@blackadam06 I'm not even gonna discuss that with you because any1 with a somewhat decent I.Q. knows that even if a great player like say Kobe or Michael plays bad that they still are the most important guy on the court because of their leadership and they do other things even when they don't play well. Sure Kobe shot 6 for 24 game 7 of the 2010 finals but in the fourth quarter he had 10 points on 2 for 4 or 5 and in that game he also had I think it was 15 or so rebounds.
@blackadam06 What MJ did was against scrubs. MJ did not do better or much better in his second repeat. In 2010 Kobe shot 12 for 25 for 35points vs the thunder in game 6, 12 for 25 for 37 vs suns game 6, 12 for 25 for 32 vs jazz game 4 so don't talk like he can't play well in big games. Those examples are only from last year anyway.
These kinda ignorant & childish, not mention merit-less comments are getting old, and really shows just how desperate U are in trying to rage against the facts.
"In 2010 Kobe shot 12 for 25 for 35points vs the thunder in game 6"
When will idiots like U learn that cherry picking out 1 game DOESN'T change what he did overall? He shot 49-120 (40%) vs OKC LOL!! As Barkley would say: "that's turrrrrible", so give it rest kid.
"MJ did not do better or much better in his second repeat"
MJ won the scoring title, a MVP, 3 finals MVP & avg'd 29ppg on 49.2 FG% during the 2nd 3-peat. That's better than kobe's career, so that kills your argument.
"12 for 25 for 37 vs suns game 6, 12 for 25 for 32 vs jazz game 4"
U do realize those were the 2 WEAKEST defensive teams in the Western playoffs, and were the ONLY 2 teams he shot at least 50% against in last year's playoffs right?
@KobeConfidence Only team to get swept in the playoffs last year was the LAKERS &they had the highest payroll in the NBA. Kb had 17pts & 5 TOs in the last game, not to mention his playoff average last year was 23ppg, 3.4rebs, 3.3asts, 1.6stls & 3.1TOs. Thats comparable to the Wizards MJ at age 38-40. And that Wizards team didnt have the talent that the Lakers had last year. People blaming Pau Gasol but Kobe didnt do anything to stop from being SWEPT! MJ @ 32 was just starting his 2nd 3peat
@KobeConfidence U say Kobes team didnt show up but Kobe didnt either. A leader needs to show up regardless & kobe played as horrible as the rest of his team. A championship team getting swept?! Maybe its Kobe's age. Oh wait, MJ came back and started his 2nd 3peat at the same age & after a year and a half break. Kobe at age 32 had lower numbers than MJ did at ages 38-40.
@Shermstyle23 Kobe will be back this year. He was great in 2010 and over 1 year u don't turn to crap. Maybe if Gasol coulda have average more than 13ppg on 42%( which is like 20% shooting for a guard) the lakers woulda won. Kobe spent that whole series and even the hornets series searching for some production from his teammates because this late in his career he's learned that u don't beat good teams by yourself. If his team would have showed up he could have been much more agressive
@KobeConfidence Did u see Kobe crumble just this last season?! Did you see Kobe get 17pts and 5TOs in an elimination game?! Did you see Kobe get swept with a team that just won the championship last year?! Did you see Phil Jackson's disappointment in not just Gasol but Kobe also?! Did you also know that Kobe's team has had one of the highest payrolls?! Did you know Kb couldnt win with Shaq, Malone and Payton?! Did you know Kb had a much worst record before Gasol came to pick up the slack?!
@Shermstyle23 U Mj fans are idiots. MJ retired in 98 because he knew his team wasn't gonna be good the following year. Kobe scored very efficiently during the first quarter and no one else came to play and as the game went on Kobe started getting doubled and like a smart one he passed the ball and all they did was throw bricks and this was in the midst of a dallas onslaught from 3's. Besides Gasols poor offense, did u see his AMAZING defense on Dirk? Oh w8 leme guess.. U want kobe to guard
@KobeConfidence Jordan retired because Krause was going to break up the nucleus that was established with the Bulls by drafting future replacements. What competitive star player (who obviously still has some left in the tank) would want that? I sure remember Kobe threatening the Lakers' management that he'd leave if they didn't surround him with talent, not to mention Kobe himself being responsible for single-handedly riding Shaq out of town. You seem to have a selective memory.
@KazaamJones Jordan retired because he was 35, was battered with injuries (even though he played all the time) broken knuckles, strained tendons, and had battered knees. Lets not mention the fact that ending on a 3 peat is never a bad idea. I'm sure your statement had some affect on his decision, but not as much as u say
@KazaamJones Yeah, Krause was hella stupid, old fat pudgy bastard. Riesndorf should'nt have listen to that clown ass GM. If the Bulls had stayed intact, they would have won 4 straight championships in '99. it was only 50 games played that year because of the strike obviously, MJ, Pip, Worm, Kukoc, Kerr, Harp and company would have been really fresh in that strike shortened season. I think the Spurs were a very lucky squad that this never developed.
michael jordan was the best. kobe wants to be the best. it puts him ahead but not up to michaels level. kobe put himself up for criticism the moment he opened his mouth about wanting to be great. the guy is fantastic, but never the same. sure, he is great for those growing up who didn't have michael but thats it. if you had a line up of all the NBA players ever, just looking at them you would choose mike at the top. he looks the part (has the physique) and is the part. simply brilliant.
The final score was 88-84 Bulls. Jordan and Caffey made clutch foul shots in the final seconds to ice it. Unfortunately, they were tired out by this game and lost by 16 to the Lakers the following night.
@bballmemories yeah, and the sad thing is that Pippen was better than a lot of these guys today that THINK they're #1 guys. Hell, Pippen is better than a lot of #1 guys today.
No one plays with Michael Jordan. By all accounts, MJ ate Pip's lunch in practices...so Pip knew his role. PLUS, this is after MJ's comeback. Pip had 18 months of being the man...found out it's not all that it seems. Which is why I don't get why people vilify Kobe Bryant so much. Five rings, never shirks away from a challenge, only guy REMOTELY close to MJ since 1996...most sane people know MJ>everyone. But why do they need to cut down Kobe as if that will somehow elevate Jordan?
It's funny how I had the exact same reaction as Ron Harper when MJ faked Isaiah Rider and hit that shot at 5:08. I just shook my head in amazement, and a few seconds later they showed Ron Harper doing the same thing on the bench. And I wonder if this is the game MJ was talking about at the HOF ceremony when he told the story about how he went off for 20 pts to win the game and told Tex Winters there's no I in TEAM, but there's an I in WIN. MJ is the greatest.
Man, I miss watching this team play. By far the best ball-hawking perimeter defenders ever. That steal by Harper, the sweet fast break pass, and the smooth dunk by MJ. They just brought that every time out.
yeah..all people seem to remember about this team (and MJ for that matter) is the explosive offense..they seem to neglect to remember that Jordan and Pippen were the best 2 perimeter defenders in the game at this time (and for most of their careers), and that's what made them so great
lol i think the announcer made the play at around 1:27 more than it truly was. Mj was fouled but he made it seem like he got pummeled and then when they showed the replay he just shut up for a second because he had nothing..lol
When MJ gets going like he did in the 4th, do you think he even listens to Phil Jackson? Do you think Jackson even tries to talk to MJ? I just imagine MJ pretty much does what he wants.
i think that when MJ gets going like that, phil in most cases stays quiet. MJ did anything he wanted but mostly to win games, not to show off or become more popular. There it is the difference in today's games now.
when he's on fire why stop it? coaches tend to call time out when things go to shit.
plus, MJ had a really big issue with being a team player. watch a documentary about phil jackson, it shows how jackson has tamed the beast. just type 'phil jackson nba maverick' on youtube. have a good one
If anyone would get him to listen, it was Phil. "Who's open Michael? Who's open Michael?"...followed by "Paxson" and Paxson hitting the four 4th quarter jumpers to put the Lakers away in '91. I'd say Phil had MJ's respect that way. But then again, time has revealed MJ to be a self-serving ass who Ether'd teammates like Will Perdue and Rodney McCray and punched out big bad Steve Kerr. Kobe with media protection...as I've said all along. So maybe you're right...
@ForEmily23 i think he shoves a large black dildo up Emily's virgin ass. Yep, that's it. He doesn't listen to Phil Jackson. He doesnt NOT listen to Phil Jackson/. He just shoves a large black dildo up Emily's virgin ass. Peckerwood white boy. FUck outta here wit dat shit. Pay homage to PATRICK EWING AND THE NEW YORK KNICKS
And yes Bballmemories knows what hes talking about many player today who do score 20 in the fourth qtr but jack shots up and shoot horrible percentages. Jordan in the 4th shot a very high percentage.
Jordan is beyond the greatest of all time i remember watching this game and been looking for it also. Great Video late night west coast games in WGN was the shit back in the day.
MJ had multiple 20 point 4th quarter heroics that season. 20 pts vs Knicks, 20 pts vs Bullets (gm 2 playoff), 20 pts vs Heat (gm 4, they lost the game). His shooting percentage just went up when it came down to crunch time. Unlike most of today's players, they have big 4th quarter but they're % is low.
to me, Jordan is the epitome of an athlete, and i dont know anything about basket ball. I could watch him play all day. It mustve been a thrill to see him live

What Jordan did to Isaiah Rider this game should be illegal. He basically athletically sodomized him.
Good to watch, as Rider was one of the most overrated, arrogant, ignorant, dysfunctional players in the league.

2006: 1st Rd exit vs PHX (Amare missed the entire series)
2007: 1st Rd ext vs PHX again

Maybe its Kobe's age. Oh wait, MJ came back and started his 2nd 3peat at the same age & after a year and a half break. Kobe at age 32 had lower numbers than MJ did at ages 38-40.
Shermstyle23 6 months ago
@Shermstyle23 Kobe will be back this year. He was great in 2010 and over 1 year u don't turn to crap. Maybe if Gasol coulda have average more than 13ppg on 42%( which is like 20% shooting for a guard) the lakers woulda won. Kobe spent that whole series and even the hornets series searching for some production from his teammates because this late in his career he's learned that u don't beat good teams by yourself. If his team would have showed up he could have been much more agressive
KobeConfidence 6 months ago
@KobeConfidence Did u see Kobe crumble just this last season?! Did you see Kobe get 17pts and 5TOs in an elimination game?! Did you see Kobe get swept with a team that just won the championship last year?! Did you see Phil Jackson's disappointment in not just Gasol but Kobe also?! Did you also know that Kobe's team has had one of the highest payrolls?! Did you know Kb couldnt win with Shaq, Malone and Payton?! Did you know Kb had a much worst record before Gasol came to pick up the slack?!
Shermstyle23 6 months ago

KazaamJones 4 months ago 5
@KazaamJones Jordan retired because he was 35, was battered with injuries (even though he played all the time) broken knuckles, strained tendons, and had battered knees. Lets not mention the fact that ending on a 3 peat is never a bad idea. I'm sure your statement had some affect on his decision, but not as much as u say
kspaintballer93 3 months ago
@KazaamJones Jordan retired because of the lockout.
mysteriousnyc 1 month ago
@KazaamJones Yeah, Krause was hella stupid, old fat pudgy bastard. Riesndorf should'nt have listen to that clown ass GM. If the Bulls had stayed intact, they would have won 4 straight championships in '99. it was only 50 games played that year because of the strike obviously, MJ, Pip, Worm, Kukoc, Kerr, Harp and company would have been really fresh in that strike shortened season. I think the Spurs were a very lucky squad that this never developed.

michael jordan was the best. kobe wants to be the best. it puts him ahead but not up to michaels level. kobe put himself up for criticism the moment he opened his mouth about wanting to be great. the guy is fantastic, but never the same. sure, he is great for those growing up who didn't have michael but thats it. if you had a line up of all the NBA players ever, just looking at them you would choose mike at the top. he looks the part (has the physique) and is the part. simply brilliant.

jordan's reaction @ 3:00.. kobe tries to mimic this as best as he can, but u cant do it better than the original. MJ is the blueprint

The final score was 88-84 Bulls. Jordan and Caffey made clutch foul shots in the final seconds to ice it. Unfortunately, they were tired out by this game and lost by 16 to the Lakers the following night.

MJ scored 20+ in a quarter on numerous occasions that year:
20 pt 4th quarter vs Blazers (this clip)
20 pt 4th quarter vs Knicks at MSG
20 pt 4th quarter vs Bullets gm 2 playoff
20 pt 4th quarter vs Heat gm 4 playoff
20 pt 3rd quarter vs Hawks gm 1 playoff
Only one of them was a lost game 4 against the Heat. He was 33-34 years old and was doing this because he could.

im also pretty sure that he exploded against NY in Chicago in the "con man" game if im not mistaken didnt he have like 20 in the first quarter?

Pip was the ultimate teammate. See how he was celebrating when MJ started to heat up.
Pip always knew that his role is to be no. 2 behind MJ but unfortunately most players today are not as willing to be a no.2 player.
bballmemories 2 years ago 65
@bballmemories yeah, and the sad thing is that Pippen was better than a lot of these guys today that THINK they're #1 guys. Hell, Pippen is better than a lot of #1 guys today.

@bballmemories very well said mate,i know the players today are not as willing to be a no.2 player, his name is LeChoke James, LOL....
sunnyboy8644 1 year ago
@bballmemories

Do you remember the absolute high you had watching the Bulls pull it through all those nail biters...man those were great days in sports.
bio88 2 years ago 3
yeah..all people seem to remember about this team (and MJ for that matter) is the explosive offense..they seem to neglect to remember that Jordan and Pippen were the best 2 perimeter defenders in the game at this time (and for most of their careers), and that's what made them so great
St0rmB 2 years ago
lol i think the announcer made the play at around 1:27 more than it truly was.

ForEmily23 3 years ago 26
i think that when MJ gets going like that, phil in most cases stays quiet. MJ did anything he wanted but mostly to win games, not to show off or become more popular. There it is the difference in today's games now.
jaa0702 2 years ago
@ForEmily23
when he's on fire why stop it? coaches tend to call time out when things go to shit.
plus, MJ had a really big issue with being a team player. watch a documentary about phil jackson, it shows how jackson has tamed the beast. just type 'phil jackson nba maverick' on youtube. have a good one
badabumbadabing1 11 months ago
@ForEmily23
So maybe you're right...
cbaldwinjr 10 months ago
@ForEmily23 "Cosmic Connection" lol. Phil would catch MJ's eyes and look as if to say, "now?" Then MJ would look as if to say "now." ZEN. lmao
