My apologies for sending this but it seemed appropriate after my last comment. I picked up a copy of the August issue of "steam World." no.290...There is in it an article called "Watching Trains at Annfield Plain. ". This was where I spent my youth. Above the train is a row of terraced bungalows I liived there until moving in 1969. Now you may understand how this vid of yours is so enjoyable. Oh ! to turn the clock back. Thanks again . from an old Geordie..........................
Thanks again, I'm pleased the video brings back many memories for you. Many times I have longed to be able to turn the clock back myself, life seemed so much better
Thanks for the reply. If you have two minutes to spare sometime (thats all it takes) check out my pathetic efforts on twa1638. Too old and too late to improve........................................cheers T.
I have to agree with TimAber57. This vid brings back great memories of my childhood and teenage years in the north-east watching 9F's Q7's and Riddles wd's pulling Iron ore loads to Consett Steel works. to see locos belching out steam and smoke is very naustalgic for me. Thanks a lot...keep it up.
Every part is wonderful. I love the opening images of the engines steaming up; hugely atmospheric and so impressive. Some of those starts are so nostalgic for me; I remember standing next to huge locomotives in Preston station as I boy and loved the sound and almost the feel of the power when they pulled out. Your video brings back those memories so clearly. Thank you for posting it.
Thanks for this vid! My 2 years old son, who had never seen a steam train yet, ask mo see it evey thingle day ! Waching it make us happy, thanks again from Barcelona.
a joy to watch from beginning to end some absolutely wonderful shots. visiting the railway for the first time next month i cant wait after watching this video.
I should have asked you the first time, but the buildings by the " ski-jump ", are they residential flats.? If they are I want one. What a view they must have..
Absolutely superb, crystal clear photography. May I ask what camera you use? Also enjoyed your Wintry Scenes at the East Lancashire Railway, it made me very homesick!
Great stuff. Excellent opening and closing shots. In the opening shot what does the railway go over to make such a gradient, never having been to the railway.?
Thanks very much, the line crosses the Metrolink tram system and that gradient is known as the 'Ski Jump' as the line has to climb considerably to cross over Metrolink.
That's a mighty impressive collection of shots, Austin. There were several locations I have never explored, notably the ski-jump and the area around Irwell Vale. Excellent.
Many thanks Mike, there is a good variety of shots to be had around Irwell Vale, it's so tranquil around there it's difficult to believe a major city is just several miles away
Thanks, she is just returned to steam this year and is quite famous as she was one of the engines involved in pulling the last steam train on British Railways in 1968. It's the lucky owners second Black Five.
Magnificent Austin. The shots of locomotives, in the early hours, at the beginning of the film, give a fantastic atmosphere. Thank you for the sharing. Philippe
That shot of the Duke leaving Summerseat has me speechless - what a loco - hope she stays sound. Brilliant videography as ever and again some atmospheric shed shots. Thanks Austin - Chris
Thanks Chris, I was surprised at the way she accelerated away from Summerseat, it was a nice bonus and lets hope she is back on the mainline before too long
Thanks Mike, amazing how the day improved. I wish I had gone back up on Sunday to capture some snow scenes. I trust you had an enjoyable meal on the SVR
Many thanks Bob, I was pleased with the last one as it was a spot where I had wanted to film for a long time. Unfortunately as it was near to 5pm. the lighting wasn't brilliant, but next time....
5 stars Austin. Probably 1 of the best ELR galas I've been too for many years. 70013 and 30777 looked superb. And 44871 sounded just awesome on Saturday.
Please share with us what make and type of camera and tripod you use. Whatever they are, the changes of location for every clip enhances the result to produce a superb video. The subjects and weather help, but the skill used putting it all together, makes it one of the very best I've seen, keep up the good work !
Such outstanding video mate loving shots of 70013 double heading with 71000, 44871 departing Irwell Vale and the last shot 70013 with 30777 certainly a fav for me.
P.S. I have to agree Austin this was the best ELR gala since the Jan 08 Gala which broke all previous attendance records. But what a line-up. I've tried to ascertain if The Duke & Cromwell were ever paired before, without sucess. I wonder if anyone else knows. Er not just buffered up at Crewe shed.
At the crew change-over when Sir Lamiel arrived tender first at Bolton Street, the driver, frank Cronin gteeted the fresh crew with the classic line, 'Welcome to Iceland'
and no wonder. Super video Austin but you should have been there this morning with 'The Duke & Oliver' battling blizzard conditions to Heywood. The train was vitually empty. Will post my humble efforts over the next day or so. Hugh.
Thanks Hugh, when I woke up this morning and saw the snow I was very tempted to come up again but was shattered after Friday night and Saturday, getting too old for all this dashing about!! It was brilliant to see the Duke out and about again .
Thank you, I think as 44871 was already facing south they wanted 70013 to face the same way so they could be paired for the first time since 1968. It made sense then to have30777 face south too. It made a pleasant change
great video i love the film, love the double header with 71000 duke of gloucester and 70013 oliver cromwell and the departed of 44871 great sound was that. Lovey line of the East Lancashire Railway i would love to go there as i live in salisbury wiltshire. nice to see 71000 duke of gloucester in 3 cyldiner engine also nice to see the jinty class 47324 in action. What a great video
An amazing video as usual Austin,i got my self a video of a black five over in Pickering last tuesday i don't think it is too bad as it is my first attempt at filming steam gonna get some more shortly that is if it ever stops snowing LOL .......John

nice weather for it. Was Cromwell trying upstage the Duke in the opening shot by drowning it in steam?

Possibly, from a selfish point of view I would rather it hadn't happened, but it was always likely with the first run of the day.
