I live in the US is there any way to get Hornby over here. I've used ebay(rather expensive) and when I went to England I bought and shipped over the East Coast Pullman. Frankly, Bachmann and Atlas produce modern rubbish which I dont like, I love this historic set and want it so bad!!
There are two versions to this set the DCC set and the DC set. I've got the DC set and runs smoothly, however the DC set has got a DCC socket so it is DCC Ready. the cars on the other hand has no lights on the tables.
If you want to go fancy, go for the DCC Version. If your budgeting go for the DC Version and in a later date you can replace the cars for the ones with lights and put a DCC chip inside. over all this is a beautiful train DC or DCC.
i probably would get this if i had the space and cash for a layout. There's something about the front of the merchant navy model that kinda ruins it, like the smokebox door isn't as realistic to the original loco as the models for the west country class. I still love the Merchant navies and i doubt that would put me off buying the set at all.
@InterCity82 Ye its a beautiful peace, will you be doing a review on this in the future just that the set (locomotive & coaches) are in argos for £170 WOW, cheap for this set anyway. Btw does the table tamps only light up with ddc controller?
Thats what I call an epic train set! ;).

What an exquisite set!?!? A beautiful loco, beautiful coaches, plenty of track and a big posh box for it to all go in! **drools**

@MrGrandMasTerMind I may be a bit late here, but no, the lights work with any power source.

I once put my donor card in a phone kiosk by mistake to make a call - that cost me an arm and a leg!.
Yes, they're expensive - around £325 List Price, but you could pick one up for around £200 - £250. Shop around. Definately worth saving up for.
