@megavore97 Zimmer and Badelt were going for a jig and did base the Pirates of the Caribbean main theme on this, so they should feel similar. The Pirates theme is also loosely related to theme from Crimson Tide, which Zimmer scored in 1995.
@myrtlemaddness It`s in C Major, so it`s much easier than you`d expect. I played the St. Paul`s Suite a bit ago, aand it is actually the funnest thing ever. You should look for sheet music on IMSLP, just to try it :))
@myrtlemaddness It really is easy. The entire orchestra just seems to pick up on the spirit of the piece and pushes it to full throttle. The hardest part about this piece is actually NOT rushing, even for the bass and cello.
Holst is definitely one of the top ten or at least one of top twenty composers. The reason, of course, that this is never acknowledged in academia is that he's not German. This is the only reason for this. A piece this beautiful is proof that he belongs up there with the greatest.
We sightread the first movement... We ended up doing the Dargason instead, but those triplets that climb higher and higher are evil xP. Great piece though.
i remember playing but everyone was like no we dont want 2 play the ostinato because second violin like had the same thing the whole time i played the cello
actually, there's nothing religious about the origin of this piece. Holst wrote it to express his gratitude for the St. Paul's Girls School, where he conducted.

i love playing the viola part in the st. pauls suite, we are given something on our own to do! haah so people can see how much better the viola is to the violin.
