External bec is used because MM's internal bec can't handle the voltage used, although the other electrics can. Also it lowers the MM's temperature because it doesn't have to supply power to the servo.

That might have something to do with the fact that it's not a Slash but a 1/8th 4WD buggy with Slash body. :)

I'm not really an tire expert, usually I'm happy if the tire is black and round... :D
If you're not racing then it's not that important, just pick a set of slicks/grooved tires for asphalt and them knobbly ones for offroad. :)
