Breath of Death VII: Retro Parody RPG for XBox Indie Games, $1 (80 MS pts)

People asking what makes this special compared to Dragon Quest or Dragon Quest ROMhacks apparently haven't played the game. The combat system is damn interesting, and the writing is solid, well written, and entertaining. Of course it's -inspired- by Dragon Quest, but so is just about every other RPG. This one's only charging a dollar. Stop being a cheap ass and try it before you criticize it; I'm positive you've paid much more for much less original RPGs.

I wonder what the hell is so special about this game compared to...oh say...Dragon Warrior/Quest, Breath of Fire (which they parodied the name from), and so on.

I'd rather play Dragoon X Omega for free, or one of the older DW/DQ games. I know this one is only $1, but meh.

There's tons of really well-made NES rom hacks if ya google em. It would be nice to play a limited demo, maybe up until the first boss or something, to get a feel for things.

The Battle system and World Layout and the up down left right movement reminds me of Dragon Warrior for the GBC.

@Ulquinnoitra Dude... To port anything to PS3 is a bitch. If he's going from Indie that means he used C# and XNA, meaning he'd have to recode the intire thing from scratch. What you could ask for is a PC port, because that is easily done with a click of a toggle.

This game is more fun to play than many $60 RPGS :X

The trick is how fast paced this game is. No waiting for battle text that takes a whole 1/3rd a second to appear, this game goes as fast as you do.

Well, I've put about two hours into it so far, and I'd like to share a few thoughts:

I'm pretty impressed, there's a lot more technical detail to the game than I expected.

Map design is good in the caves. I'm not quite sold on the linear areas like the eastern ruins, but even that is still neat to go through.

I don't think I've ever seen the random battle quota idea before. It's definitely a good original feature.
