I am using ubuntu 9.10 and i am getting this error whenever i try to install mplayer and smplayer (step 3)

this is the message I get:

mplayer: Depends: libdirectfb-1.0-0 but it is not installable Depends: libx264-65 (>= 1:0.svn20081230) but it is not installable

any help??

Not sure if you still keep tabs on this thread, but I am able to follow everything up to step 6, but when I try to install dshowserver, I'm told the package cannot be found. Is it possible the package is not at the specified location? (i.e. in ripps818's launchpad area? I may have confused myself, but I thought I would ask.

hmmm if you've mplayer with coreavc support installed already then its not a big deal to install dshowserver if you ae not getting the package in this ppa. i'll mail you the link
