this is my favorite classical piece ever, really don't like playing classical music but i even play a few beethovens sometimes and this is my favorite movement of my favorite sonata.
What an extraordinary performance and interpretation from Daniel Barenboim...it really shows what a genius Ludwig was...I still can't comprehend how someone can have such knowledge of music. Absolutely incredible
i love this version best of all, there is sooooooo..... much feeling, speed is good, touch,,,excellent. beautiful beautiful, emotive, heaven to my ears!!!
never get tired of listening to this beauty, tha face that we see on maestro Baremboin speaks for itself, Beethoven, Beethoven,Beethoven..... please Ludwig forgive the music nowadays and musicians that will never understand the meaning of the word soul, feeling and infinity......
i loooove this quality! it makes me feel like i'm playing ffvIi and cloud just had a flash back about the date with aeris in gold saucer and all the romanticness&heartbrokeness and it's just amazingggg.
I can also play this movement well. No doubt he's a talent pianist, but the beginning part of this movement has got to be one of the most over-indulgent interpretations I've come across. Towards the end the speed became somewhat more 'normal' (bearable)...
Firstly I am not a concert pianist so all of you virtusosos can ignore this comment, but I can play this piece 'fairly' well. Barenboim in my opinion over-romanticises this piece. It is not Chopin for Christ's sakes! The piece should be played exactly as the composer wrote it. No slowing down rubato nonsense, just play the piece as it was written. His canatbile is superlative but why does he ruin it by over-doing it?
Well Beethoven is a composer who bridged the Classical area to the Romantic Era so its not a far strech to think that it sounds romantic. He also was not a fan or metranome and he was well know for not following playing his own pieces! Keeping that in mind he's not altering tempo very much except at the end of phrases which is common. It sounds like he is doing a lot of tempo because of his voice leading and melodic direction

The way he changes tempo is brilliant. Some interpretations maintain tempo at an almost steady speed. Barenboim is just brilliant.

Agreed. Barenboim can tend to be the King of Schmaltz on these types of movements.

Fair point, Beethoven is in my view, one of the great romantics.
Oh dear, have I opened another argument?!
