All you people who call this video altered (i.e. sped up) is retarded. This is the PAL version of the game so the music is sped up naturally for Europe. Geez >_>
@Greenalink Yeah, I know. But I found it funny that people don't know how to look up why the games music is sped up and not the gameplay. Plus last time I checked, speeding up gameplay made it harder so common logic tells me that people assuming this is sped up can't think straight.
My friend and I are making an insane hack, we played this Mario after working on our hack for a bit. After working on our seemingly impossible hack, that even Japanese TAS people can't get a decent time on their first try... This seemed one hell of a lot easier...
You could get it faster if the TAS was constantly jumping, because when constantly jumping, it causes this bug that I saw in another vid that makes Mario go faster and faster, and the camera wasn't sped up because the TIME was going down at a normal rate. But only a TAS and not a human can do it because the "A" button must be pressed several million times per second.
You don't need a TAS to get a good speedrun of Super Mario Bros. haha
If you want to see skill watch the speedrun for Super Mario Bros. 2 (Los Levels in America) on the Famicon that's skill. The game is A LOT harder than this, and it was done on the Famicon.
and he does it non tool assisted speed run

PAL SMB1 is unique because most of the unoptimisted PAL copies usually have:
* Slower Music Tempo (Sonic 1 is a good example)
* Higher Music Pitch (NES Ducktales and Kirby's Adventure are good examples too)
* And of course a tad slower speed on gameplay (unless it's optimised like DKC trilogy on the SNES)..
