first i thought it was Illmatic, then i thought it was 36 chambers...then i thought it was get rich or die trying..nahh jk about that one. but now i believe this is my favorite album
Fuck people who take things like Pitchfork as gospel and call 2011 tracks in 2011 'timeless'. It really winds me up. This is timeless music. Very ahead of it's time and still incredible today. Some of the best breaks and sampling in the history of music and that is no exaggeration, I would never take that back. There's probably only been about 7 or 8 albums released since this that I would say are better. His new album was pretty awesome too.
Shadows best album by far IMO. Private Press was really good (god knows the BBC used it on every documentary soundtrack for the next 3 years) and the Brainfreeze / Product Placement LP's were fantastic but they're collaborations with cut chemist and not strictly studio albums. The Outsider just didn't do anything for me at all
thanks DJ Shadow. this album has had a tremendous affect on me for 10+ years. Like the guy said, I was clearheaded as fuck when I first heard it, and even though I'm not anymore, Shadow Endtroducing, thanks
I have 90k songs of varying genera, I'm not even lieing. Do you guys think I could produce enough samples to create something a quarter of the awesomeness DJ Shadow has made?
To think DJ Shadow produced this with nothing but vinyl records and some analogue recording equipment.
Not to take away from modern DJ's and producers, but the fact that DJ Shadow created this album from noting from samples and did it with such "primitive" equipment is a monument to his genius.
If I could be half the creative genius he is with such modern equipment, I would be satisfied with what I have produced. He's the last of the great producers in my opinion.
they pay to use it, the only person you could accuse of being a 'money grabbing scumbag' is shadow himself. anyway if you'd play the game in question you'd know it fits in well and definately adds to it, I fail to see how introducing more people to this sick music is a bad thing
I found this album with Protection of Massive Attack in the street when i was 12. I tried to share with freinds but nobody liked, maybe too young. So we were alone in this little world, Endtroducing, Protection and me.
And it was so fucking perfect !! No acid, no weed, no pills, no Jack ... Just a pre teen and his ears.
thumbs up if you were listening to your copy of this album in 97, have been preserving it as a relic ever since in your collection and still listen to it from time to time..
I herd this song on an Episode of CSI NY and i thought for a second i know i herd this song before but from where, then i remembered Splinter Cell Conviction.
1st time I heard this i was wrecked on acid, tripping hard. and in a friends moms cadillac with the moon roof down, hauling ass thru the middle of town, feeling the wind and watching the street lights streak by at about 3 in the morning. never forget it. one of the most perfect moments of my life. and its all thx to this song.
@timwins31 First time I heard this, I was sober and clearheaded as fuck, walking through the city with my back pack full of paints. But it had the same impact.
@elspoko ive stopped street art now, but i completely noe wat u mean, i nvr listened to him wen walkn with my paints, but i bet u felt pretty cool with the music playin :P
ok so i remember listening to this song like 2 years ago and then i found a song with a really weird video and it starts with a kid asking "daddy can you read me a bedtime story?" and the dad is like "ok kids" and i cant remember it. i was led to it by this video. if you know the song plz message me it'd be tight
I can't believe, as an avid hip-hop fan who is obsessed with the genre, it has taken me so long to find out about this album. I'm so ashamed and annoyed that I wasn't listening to this years ago.
@dnjp4life Same here. This album was released in 1996, and yet I heard about it around 2009. I bought it a day after Christmas (while buying my mom a Gospel CD for her birthday, which was 5 days after Christmas) and man, I am glad that I discover it because it is one of the best things of all time.
Compelling tune which still amazes me after more than a decade. Shadow's moved on to other things now but it must be hard to live up to this masterpiece and the power it holds over its listeners. The xylophone sample still dissolves me into bliss.
That record store on the cover of this album used to be on K street in sacramento, its gone. it was right by Joe Son's. Mountain surf was there too. Now FTC is on K street. RIP thursday night market!
