I've given this a good deal of thought. From thousands of years ago up until WWI horses, donkeys, camels, etc., were the main method of transportation. So for those thousands of years we advanced at a snail's pace. But in the last 60 years our technology has exploded to unimaginable levels.

Makes you wonder what happened that made us so much smarter in such a tiny window of time.
