  • 0:40 ..Graham Nash is lovely!!

  • Nagyon jó együttes, szeretjük

  • That is one AWESOME bass line.

  • My 'pop group 'played as support band quite a lot in '63/'64.to the Hollies, Stamford Hall Altrincham and Paar Hall Warrington.First time we had heard brilliant harmonies, especially through there DOUBLE !! VOX COLUMS, and also my first viewing of a stereo Gibby , I was really cheased off with my Guayatone ?? and Linear birdcage amp.after that .

  • @rjeffrey1950 that sounds like fun, where is the tardis?!? I really want to visit the good old days that everyone speaks so fondly about : )

  • Guys dressed so cool back then.

  • Aww, the sixties we're the best, the guys were adorable, but now they have tatoos, crazy hair, weird styles, and worst of all, autotune! D:

  • The ACTUAL 2 minutes when this 9-year-old girl discovered her desire for boys...lol...Thanks Allan!!!

  • @henchfrezno: that's not a six string "regular" guitar. That is a Fender Bass VI. It's a six string bass guitar.

  • He was so cute!! awww :)

  • great group because their music evolved.

  • @2001perseus you are right, if we didn't have YouTube I wouldn't know half the bands I know now, although I wish there was a time machine so I could see what it was like back then.... : )

  • BELLISSIMA CANZONE

  • Even though this song was done 10 years before I was born, I love it I remember my uncle putting the record on & singing it to me. Memory's.

  • Graham Nash looks like Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap on "Gimme Some Money".

  • this song was before i was even born and i love it. my mum used to sing it to me.

  • Can anypne confirm that the Hollies had more No. 1's (world-wide) than the Beatles ?

  • Another one of those songs and performances that, you see it once and you never forget it.

  • @EmilyARTS you took the words straight out of my mouth! I'm a teenager now too and I would much rather be one in the 60s the music back then was much better, but we can only dream... : )

  • @60s4everanever Not really, it's all yours anytime you want to listen. All we had was radio Luxembourg back then, if we actually wanted to hear it. These songs were written for the young, that means it's yours kid, enjoy.

  • @2001perseus 60s4everanever is right.Had an old radiogram in the 50/60,s,and took turns in holding the wire to earth it manually, just to listen to Luxembourg, lol. Those were our days ,lvd, and wish we could go back there sometimes--so as the man said--enjoy!

  • beatles still the greatest band they started as simple sound to great music...music like this was definitely started by the beatles...

  • @mrrodpatrick1 We had only first heard of this fantastic sound when the Beatles led the charge of who was already there. The Hollies might have started things off just as easily with their brilliant harmonies, but only Graham had exceptional drive; the others depended on that drive to a point.

  • @mrrodpatrick1 DELMORE BROTHERS - THE EVERLY BROTHES - THE BEATLES>

  • Urgh. I so wish I was a teenager in the 60's instead of now. I could've been screaming like the crazy fangirl I am at Beatles and Hollies concerts. I have no options nowadays - tickets are too expensive and nobody exists who's worthwhile to see.

  • absolutely love Graham Nashs solos, he did brilliant there :D

  • Foreverseptember2

Yes, I loved listening to the Hollies, dancing at Tenby hall, mini skirts and beehive hair.

Oh for youth and a future with You.

    Love you

  • To Foreverseptember2

Yes, loved The Hollies, Tenby Hall dances, mini skirts and beehive hair!

The fun of youth......wish the future could have been as US.

    Love you forever xx

  • come on this guys were good but you cant compare to the beatles, the beatles has been the most important band EVER!

  • Graham Nash!

  • @dakotahstr Nashie is brilliant!!!!!

  • So good!! They all look so young, can u believe Tony was only 18 he is sooo cute! : )

  • ahhh vocal harmonies are so nice

  • I'm from Manchester and one day I took a trip to Stockport a neighbouring town in the 60's and was looking in a boutique shop window frequented by the hollies at that time. When out of nowhere a horde of young ladies came screaming round the corner saying "there he is"! They were heading straight for me so I legged it pretty quick. They did say in those days that I looked like Graham Nash, so maybe they mistook me for him but I wasn't lookin; to get crushed while they made they're mind up. PHEW!

  • Looks like 19 people looked the other way.

  • i think The Hollies were the one of the most underrated bands of the 60's...shoot i think they're one of the most underrated bands of all time..they're vocal harmonies, amazing songwriting, and amazing playing...they were really talented musicians

  • The Hollies pls come back !

  • @grzegorz0510 They are! They are currently on their Autumn tour of the UK. I'm going to see them in High Wycombe on Friday. The show is a sellout.

  • yes yes yes

  • I think Graham Nash should have stayed with the Hollies Great Band

  • @krakatoa1200 maybe but he is super in CSN&Y and CSN..

  • Il testimone !!!

  • Nice!!

  • My Nan is a distant relative of Allan Clarke. How cool is that!?

  • @monkeychunger Very cool! Is she a 1st or 2nd cousin?

  • @sapphiretaurus It's not cousins, my nan's mum married somebody who's deceased wife remembers her cousin bouncing young Allen Clarke on her knee!

  • @monkeychunger Talk about six degrees of separation!

  • @monkeychunger Very cool indeed. emm would she like a pen pal? ;)

  • @monkeychunger that is 'way' cool !!

  • the Beatles broke up in 1969...The Hollies sold most albums in 1970

  • @Syzygy60 And what is your point?

  • @Syzygy60 they broke up in 1970.

  • @Syzygy60 so music is about selling albums to you?

  • So cute they were. I love the smiles. Nowadays guys in bands always look angry...like they want to kill someone.

  • "Turn off that crap. It's driving me nuts." (My sister on this song)

  • @Samalamalamdam Set your sister straight. This is music.

  • @Samalamalamdam

    us the "back-hand" immediately

  • Classic.

  • watch the rythym guitarist,he's the talent

  • Wow they look so cute! :-)

  • Yes - this is the classic line-up.

Alan Clarke on vocals, Graham Nash on vocals & guitar, Tony Hicks on lead guitar & vocals, Eric Haydock on bass and Bobbie Elliot on drums.

Eric Haydock left in 1967 and was replaced by Bernie Calvert, who first appeared on the album "Evolution", and Graham Nash quit to join CS&N in 1968. Before announcing his leaving the band, he found his own replacement - Terry Sylvester, who had a voice very similar to his.

  • the hollies close harmonies were the best!!

  • what was the bass player laughing at ?

  • @jsteelman1000 It was like that back then, it was a calmer time,..they enjoyed themselves, mostly today they seem so angry with no charisma or personality

  • @jsteelman1000 At 0:59 the guy appears to be playing bass guitar, yet it is obvious that he is holding a 6-string guitar. Maybe he's laughing because he's pretending to play bass.

  • They will be adored for decades to come -- at least as long as JS Bach!

  • This is one incredible group.....never really knew them, how long they stayed together and made great music, especially into the 70's......

  • mas ele é a cara do Rodrigo Faro !!!

  • They were so young then. It's hard to tell if they had the classic line up yet. Does anyone know?

  • The Hollies were great and not to be compared to the Beatles they were there own band with their own sound. Grow-up!

  • Hey c'mon. The Hollies were a major competitior to the Beatles, mainly because of the blend of Allan Clarke's and Graham Nash's voices.I would recommend anyone to vist Nash's solo LP (I think "Songs for Beginners"). this guy was a seriuous talent before he joined Crosby and Stills.

i still think Crosby was a nutter - he F****d up the Byrds! Steve Stills was good though!

  • Graham Nash! Lookin and sounding great!

  • awesome Band and song!.

  • Il testimone mi ha portato qui xD

  • Allan is so.... ! I forgot what I was going to say.

  • Graham Nash looks remarkably like George Harrison in this era. Very strange.

  • popular song now & days in reggae...

  • It's NOT a 6 string bass It's a Strat ! You ever see a bass with a wammy bar ? The reason you've seen other bands use one like it is : the drums & guitars are stage props ! Most of the old TV shows just played a recording and the band would lip sinc and pretend to play . So if you saw Jack Bruce use one it was probobly the same one from the TV show serch Unknown Hinson NOW

  • @jackdbone53 fender bassVI did have tremolo like on jazzmaster strats have a different tremolo.thats why theplayer is not using a pick.flatwound guitar strings dont respond well to pick attack

  • @jackdbone53 Actually, it is a Fender VI six-string bass guitar. They were tuned an octave lover than a regular guitar.

  • @theAceMod1979 I think it was there managment, trying to keep a clean boy image, but try the hollies long cool woman/live, they let go on that, 10 mins long and great guitar solo`s.

  • this band got more talent than the stones..but rolling stones got more charisma

  • spinning wheel

  • il testimone soudtrack!!!!

  • the best beyond beatles

  • The Hollies and Beatles shared number one status their entire time. The Beatles were often in second place to a recent Hollies song. And Graham Nash left them and went to Crosby (who got him on drugs) Still, Nash and Young. Great musicians either last forever or die young.

  • @Kelebrinlith The wonderful, indestructible Graham Nash simply rocks the house!!!!!!

  • The best Hollies song.

  • Everyone loved the Hollies. There music was fresh and so enlightening. I still like their tunes today in 2011.

  • Il testimone - Pif!

  • I just found on youtube, this song rereleased by the hollies in 1983, and has graham nash on it, just one look 1983 the hollies, its very different in parts.

  • God almighty lookat the pompador on Nash!

  • i love this song and i was born in 1989. i was born on the wrong year =(

  • Mods.

  • Only two at the time, but began listening to music at a young age and remember The Hollies well. Back then we could turn on the TV after dinner and see many of the popular bands of the time on different "talk" shows. SO glad I was born in the 60's as opposed to later decades....

  • woooohooo slappin tha bass.... on a guitar. wtf lo

    l

  • @chato0571 thats what i said first lol but its an actual bass. jack bruce from cream uses one too. look at cream videos

  • @chato0571 its a six sting bass the beatles used the same one as it looks

  • Wow, look at how young Graham Nash was. But still, only 5 more years until he appears at Woodstock with CSNY.

  • bass player must have forgotten his bass haha..if you watch them closely you can see them all look over and laugh throughout the performance.

  • I photographed The Hollies in 1977 in Canada. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.como)

  • Love It!

  • Graham Nash!!! :D <3

  • It's just cool to see Graham Nash!

  • esses caras me trazem muitas lembranças boas

  • Why is Bern playing a guitar for a bass?

  • @CHABA95 Its a 6 string fender bass with a trembolo. It is kind of a wierd combination but it must work! the Beatles used one of these in the Let it be recordings and John Entwistle of The Who frequently used one in the studio aswell!

  • Yes !!!

  • A great band that never enjoyed the success they deserved in the states.

  • Perfect pop...funny how Graham held out the longest with the push back hair style yet was the one searching for real change a few years later(_C,S & N). Think he left Hollies in '68 soon after his King Midas in Reverse only performed so so on the UK charts. - another fave of mine. Saw them in Adelaide - '70....the loudest drumming I'd ever heard at that stage.

  • Outstanding vocal group.

  • is this a Beatles rip-off, or just the music of the time and place?

  • @joeknee4767 This si the music of the time and place. These groups were not Beatles rip-offs. Comments like yours are insulting to bands like this and the Beatles as well. They all wore suits and ties because that was the fahsion, and the music they did was what was popular at the time. They were always doing covers and starting to write their own music.

  • @sapphiretaurus but to be fair the beatles started it all

  • @BEARARMZ I think you'll find that Buddy Holly and the Crickets were doing it before the Beatles, not to take anything away from the Beatles

  • @sapphiretaurus but the 60s had the best music and i was born in 89

  • @sapphiretaurus Did you forget that they also had a very young Graham Nash.......sound familiar. Just an indication of the talent that they were just realizing!

  • @nkmcelwee No, I am fully aware of that.

  • @sapphiretaurus sorry its taken me so long to get to this, thanks for the posting nice to hear from you.

  • @jm9407 You're welcome, and thank you!

  • @sapphiretaurus Not really insulting is it? Just ignorant! If a person can only cite on band from the 50s / 60s / 70s and thinks all other music is a rip off of one band then they don't know much! It's a pity that the lazy term 'beatles-esq' became so popular for describing this brand of pop.

  • @joeknee4767 No hon..it was a great era..all the guys had the hair and usually 5 piece bands.the harmony was the key..:)

  • @joeknee4767 It's not insulting to ask a question like this. the person who answered your question is just being weak sauce

  • @joeknee4767 Welcome to the British Invasion. This is just, like the other dude said, time and place.

  • Good Old Hollies I Love These Guys Thanks For Posting!

  • 6-string bass... those days... marvelous . At least The Shadows used the same instrument on some solos...

  • When did Graham leave the Hollies?

  • looks like the bass player forgot to bring his bass and they gave him a guitar for the show.

  • @cgboomer

No, I believe it is a Fender Bass VI

  • no its not a guitar its a fender bass VI six strig bass

  • @cgboomer

It may LOOK like it, but that's a "Fender Bass VI". Probably the first ever six string bass guitar. A very innovative and very popular bit of kit. Jack Bruce used one on the first Cream gigs and on their first album. John Lennon and George Harrison used them on Beatles tunes where McCartney played keyboards when the song demanded it be recorded as live as possible. Lennon plays Fender Bass VI on 'Let It Be', George on 'Hey Jude'. Hope this helps.

  • @cgboomer

That's a "Fender Bass VI" a very innovative but of kit and the first ever six string bass guitar. Cream used one on the first album and live, the Beatles used them on tracks recorded live in the studio where McCartney played piano, for example; Lennon played Fender Bass VI on "Let It Be" and "Long And Winding Road". George played Fender VBVass VI on "Hey Jude"

  • lovely song

  • Coles supermarkets redid this song in 2006 as "Just One Bite" to launch their "You'll Love.." in-store brand.

  • I love the 60s even thou I was born in 68 . Better than today's!

  • @mcconkeyMOD certainly. Today's groups have no class or talent at all.

  • I love the Hollies for ever - now already for more than 40 years!

  • OMG! looking at the change with Tony Hicks in this song (1964) and in Carrie Anne on BBC (1969) is sooooo huge! he looks like a kid here!

  • Graham Nash is the best! Of Crosby,Stills,Nash and Young fame...

  • Great early Hollies....(I think Doris must have appreciated it also)

  • That cutie (at :52) that looks like George Harrison is Graham Nash (of Crosby, Stills & Nash fame)

  • Without a doubt, The Hollies was the rock group that came closest to the Beatles. They made beautiful music during the '70s, they also had wonderful voices. When there was the explosion of British rock, their music played on the radio all the time in England. In some situations were more successful than the Beatles.

  • @urbanocity When all the other girls were screaming for Paul, I was screaming for Allan! For me The Hollies had it... hands down.

  • Terrific... they got everyone in there... Dave Clark Five, Beach Boys and the Beatles...

  • who is this? 1:25 THX!

  • @Lakrits3 Tony Hicks, their lead guitarist. He's still with the group, and as great as ever! You're welcome!

  • @sapphiretaurus My mum told me that in the early 60s,Tony had his guitar tuned by our neighbour. We lived in Nelson Lancs.

  • @sapphiretaurus

yeah but he is so old he cant get a boner..and hes bald and flabby and his face is lined with liver spots and corws feet

  • @ChiroQuacker That sounds just like you, so go fuck yourself.

  • @sapphiretaurus Love it !!!!! Well said.........

  • graham nash at 0:52 ..went on the croby stills and nash

  • this is class :) such a gr8 band

  • Very nice !!!

  • i was 14 when this song came out,i was in love with the best looking girl in the school, three grown up children, and 5 grandkids later shes still the best looking girl in the school...

  • @micyboyh

    She's still in school??

  • @HoboGus yea she's a cleaner

  • wow ;;; what a WONDERFULL SONG i was only 2

  • Although I was just born by then, it seems the future generations could hardly make such simple and rich kind of music, as if anything that might appeal to good and simple feelings, today, is like a sinful attitude. Those song sound full of rich feelings for those who like to appreciate them.

  • Saw The Hollies two weeks ago in concert in Basingstoke - they were fabulous - oh my lost youth, and Tony Hicks is still SO CUTE....!!!!

  • Super

  • I was10 when this song was released, have always loved The Hollies, went to see them in Basingstoke two weeks ago - awesome and OMG Tony Hicks is still SO CUTE....!

  • Wow, Graham Nash with a front bouffant!

  • you can see these bands really enjoy their music! They have such a cool energy and put everything into the performance. Love their smiles and great tune! Wish to live in that time....

  • They were coached to be "smiley!" Rock and Roll needed to be friendly in those days! I love the "Hollies!"

  • Sounds awesome in my neck of the woods!

  • awesome!

  • The days when music meant you could remember the tune , the words and those who sang it.

  • Oh Shame on me I did not recognize Graham Nash! He looks different with black hair and eyes! On the cover of my vinyl he is redhead and pale eyes!

  • Who's the guy at the left of Tony Hicks who sing in solo at 0:44? He's got cool voice!

  • Graham Nash..just brilliant..and in those days a personal friend..lovely man

    alan Whitehead (Marmalade 67-78)

  • @althemainman2474 Met Mr Nash at a gig w/ my old band some years ago-very nice guy. Been singing 'Bus Stop' solo for a while, and learning 'LookThrough Any Window'

Might have to learn 'I See The Rain' as well! Great song, that is too.

    Regards from USA

  • Instant crush on Allan for this teeny watching TOTP that night...it never went away!

  • people use to look happy in the 60's

  • @ratapsycho It was actually a happier less stressful time overall.
