  • this was my song love the end of it.

  • doesn't matter if you're 15 0r 50 STAND!

    Peace X

  • OMG. How old am I? This song was the shit for us. Kids today don't know nothing about this. Real music movement. a revolution through soul.

  • @Sirkinney You're 18. I have the same issue - but I finally realized that they just don't make mirrors like they used to anymore. ;-)

  • @vradul That's funny :)

  • @Sirkinney It's farkin' sad, is what it is... and the wort part is that all the hot chicks call me "Sir" now.... jeeze! ;-)

  • @vradul LMAO! your RIGHT kid your RIGHT! WOW!

  • @Sirkinney I know... it's rough. Especially when they look at you with a smile and those big brown eyes fluttering at you, and then say things like "didn't I meet you at my grandfather's house?" I wish they wouldn't say that. It's like have a glass of ice water poured in your lap. Fark!

  • @vradul now I'm down to "I was fine! back in the day."

  • @Sirkinney I'm glad I was there, too... It was very fine days... the finest... people STOOD, you know?

  • @vradul yes lord. we did.

  • @Sirkinney Occupy Life..... google "antemedius "

  • @vradul STOOD? Well, BFD. Nostalgia lulls memories and is the opiate of inertia, making you face the wrong direction. There's a cross for you to bear; things to go through if you're going anywhere, or so the song says.

  • @vradul Tell 'em "Not unless your grandmother was Rosa Parks." It won't be water and it won't be cold and it won't be in your lap. ;-)

  • 220 now thats a groove a fella can funk to

  • Give Sly a break. The man broke his neck that's why he hold's it the way it does and those painkillers can be addictive. Besides him be wasted from the past and old age. He revealed all this on the Stone & Digital show!

  • @KrackaMan100 The fact that this man survives today is by the grace of god and his faith in god which he acquired from his childhood! He is a living genius and one of my favorite front men from those days! His songs and lyrics were the bomb and they hold today! A true genius!

  • why has he been forgotten. . . so a amazing

  • SAN FRANCISCO LEGEND

  • what year was this song?

  • @FooeyMcgooey

This single (album of the same title) was released in 1969.

  • @doc2skate ok, thanks.

  • To wqvsaa:

Sly Stone is a great musician, song writer, all around great singer of funk, but, I can assure you that he had nothing whasoever to do with ending the Vietnam War. Doubt it, yes I do, that the Communist leader in North Vietnam had even heard of him, much less would have appreciated his music, or would've let the people even listen to it. Tis a nice image you have of Sly there, but tis not a true one. Sorry

  • na na na na na na na na na na

  • I saw Sly on the Merv Griffin show many years ago and he seemed incoherent. That's so sad. Sly and the Family Stone were a great band back in the day.

  • Wish I had his clothes. Does anyone know if he is still alive and where he lives now?

  • @TheNorthernSoulKing Sly is still alive!!!

  • @starlost1957 Thank you. Do you know where he lives?

  • @TheNorthernSoulKing ........................Sly lives in a Condo down by the Beach in So. Ca. and loves to ride his Motorcycle, lol.

  • @kennedyredlands Thank you does he still play?

  • This image was taken at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame where he walked off of the stage disoriented.............wonder what's really wrong with him??

  • @kennedyredlands ... if I remember correctly, it's problem(s) with drugs... anyone else have factual info...?

  • @kewlbreez77 .....yes, I read that not only doing coke that he did a lot of PCP which is probably why he is the way he is......................so sad because he was so brilliant!! ;-))

  • @kennedyredlands He is/was quite intelligent, & put quite a bit of thought into his comments, as seen in his appearance on the Mike Douglas show (here on youtube).

  • Such a pity, his health & great talent, wasted, dissipated with drugs. PCP is elephant tranquilizer, if memory serves correct. Sometimes also known, back in the '70s, as "angel dust"; back then I had a friend whose girlfriend smoked a bit of refer laced with the stuff, & she died from it. Drugs are a total waste of time

  • @kewlbreez77 I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Sly Stone is healthy! Although like many artists, both past and present, he did go through a drug phase, that is long since past. He is definitely in a legal battle with a former manager, who from all accounts has stolen from him, but Sly is not a drug-addled vegetable.

  • @blacknosugarnocream Howdy, thnx f/ the good news. I hope he gets whatever was stolen from him. Also, it would be great if his musical genius could once again provide us with some really great music.

  • I am a theologian and I try to live this every day! It breaks my heart that so many artists of my generation continue to struggle with the pain that it takes to create great music!

  • growing up with no love from family. and hearing this song made me stand. thank , thank u sly

  • could this be one of the most perfect musical arrangements and productions ever? it's up there with good vibrations.

  • still true

  • The definitive song of what the 60s was all about.

  • I miss you Labrenda Walker.

  • just a beautiful song, with meaning to boot !

  • "Anyway, YouTube is the latter-day Wild West"

    LOL?

  • Man, I remember my Sly and the family Stone Greatest hits album. I played that thing literally 24 hours a day. Way ahead of his time! I love that picture of my man too!

  • It's a little known secret about the vietnam war that Sly Stone was one of the cheif negotiators who helped end the war. Sly basically told Nixon he would perform for the North Vietnamese at no expense if they would return to the Paris peace talks and agree to the terms that he (Sly) had proposed. The North Vietnamese agreed and peace with honor was acheived. They gave sly a standing ovation when he performed an acappella rendition of everyday people.

  • You missed the warming about the brown acid? ;-)

  • @vradul and the warning as well....

  • @vradul Funniest comment I've read in a while!

  • wqvsaa: Are you off your meds again? Of course it's a "little known secret" because it never happened. Sheesh, EVERYONE knows Elvis negotiated the end of the Viet Nam war. Where've you been?

  • @Waldocounty Cute!!! This back and forth word war you have with wqvsaa is priceless.

  • Urban myth.

S&TFS couldn't show up on time for anything in the US let alone half way across the world.

    Stop being bogus

  • @The5thAngelRose You are so right and true!!!!! :)

  • @wqvsaa I am currently studying History in the US and saw no mention of Sly ANYWHERE!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @archetypewoman1 That's not true - mixed marriages were legal here at that time. Don't talk about things you don't know aboutl.

  • @mrsbasemore right

  • @wqvsaa shut the fuck up.

  • @wqvsaa I never knew that .Very interesting

  • @wqvsaa Would be interesting if it were true. There is certainly no mention of it anywhere besides this paragraph. As far as I can find.

  • @wqvsaa No shit? I'm not surprised. His words and music have POWER!!!! One of the greatest that ever was.

  • @wqvsaa Is there documentation of this? If there is this is the one of the coolist things I ever heard.

  • @wqvsaa Seriously Cool!

  • @wqvsaa Wow!!! I am of that generation and did not know this even though I was and still a fan of Sly and the Family Stone. It's not surprising if I think about it. There lyrics spoke to who they are.

  • (Continued) in detail over at least the last 20-years......on OPRAH, discussed on the Cosby Show as part of their Black History educational scenes for the Huxtable kids, etc, etc. If this is true, it's deplorable that no one today knows anything about this.

Where can this be researched (or CAN IT)????

Are there any videos of Sly Stone talking about it with anyone? Historically-Inquiring Minds want to know!! :)

  • @FlysAtNightWoman The feds will classify this for 60 years. Then what is released will be largely concealed from view on the grounds of national security--with ANYONE in the Oval Office. Oprah has clout, real clout. And even the money. You have to let her know you and everyone you can shake out of inertia want her to make this a cause of vital importance. So, STAND.

  • @wqvsaa @wqvsaa Greetings! If what you're saying is true, then I find it an absolute disgrace that NONE of this was publicized in any way--even in the last 20-years! I mean, I know all about the ridiculous racism of that time, with most ppl of color not being given credit for any major & monumental accomplishments they made in anything but music basically---but something THIS big should've been brought out & talked about openly &...... (Continued in next comment)

  • So sad that Sly got so messed up.

His music and style was terrific way back when. Well we still have the memories ---- can only hope Sly has a few too!

  • Sly & Stone family are latecomers to the civil rights movement with this song, but it's a good tune. Photo is awful. Is this something out of Mad Max/Thunderdome?

  • For the love of GOD Waldocounty, shut the hell up. I love how youtube breeds idiots like yourself. I don't even care if you're right or wrong, just shut up. Go play your PS3 in your parents basement.

  • Haha. You sound like a true soft bitch with your "Don't censor me" crap, I WILL tell you to shut the hell up. "YouTube is the latter-day Wild West"...WOW, between wackin off to your Megan Fox posters, and your school yard rants that i'm sure you carry with you daily on YouTube, I hope reality gives you a "wack" on your noggin. You're a true example of the misguided youth of this country when you compare YouTube to the Wild West. That's rich..

  • Christiantodd1, are you off your meds?

  • Get some new material, Waldo. You're like a parrot who repeats the same thing over and over and over regardless of surroundings.

Your feeble attempts to be clever, entertaining, and intelligent consistently fail.

Have some crackers, filberts, and grub worms and be quiet.

"Better to remain silent and thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubts." - A.L. Paraphrased

  • @Waldocounty Cute!! About the crayons!

  • Christiantodd1: "things you'll go through if you're going anywhere." So let's have no public censorship if posting on this 70's iconic tune, yes?

  • Sly ,Larry and freddy have to hook up before it's to late the origanal PLEASE SLY if your out there make it HAPPEN !!!!!

  • check out Family Affair video from the Tokyo Jazz Festival last year. Sly fans should like it. Rose and her daughter are amazing!

  • Thank you !

  • You are right she is amazing. She has a nice big ass also. Proper addition.

  • you've been sitting way too long...

  • Great musician, but here he looks like my Australian nynfa!
