  • I love when a musician is young and searching insted of settled in and predictable.

  • Pretty DAMN INTENSE,,,can you feel it,,?????

  • he got all technique musical knowledge and experience most of all he has written great pieces of music in the past respect

  • John Mclaughlin and Allan Holdsworth and lower your voice.

  • He had so much pure energy in his playing in those days. To me, that period is his most exciting material. Thanks for posting this!

  • I thought he was better back then...young and vibrant.

  • I Like this "young and vibrant" very much but if you play his standards on THE MEDITERRANEAN or THIEVES AND POETS you feel the finese of his playing...a diamond!

  • no words...

  • I believe his 6th string is tuned to a low E. Tal Farlow used to tune his A string down to A. John is tuned to E. No changing the voicing of the chords, just a root note down one octave. Sounds great! He was probably the best guitarist in the world at this time (1980) Heck...he still is to me :-)

  • No, you can hear his low E tuned to A near the end. He does descending chords with his thumb, playing what would be a low F, but it's obviously a Bb going to an open A.

  • these descending chords knocked me out and put me into jazz music direction!

  • yes you can notice it by the ample vibration of the 6th. He's a genious

  • He is tuned to low A....on the 6th string....

    Mclaughlin is Brilliant!!!!!!!

  • No finger tapping or pulling here, pure pick only.

  • And what about his 'chops' by God? Reminds me of his playing on 'Extrapolation'.

  • do you really think "pure pick only". I have many friends, (guitar players) and ALL fall down with this piece. I think it has all, from storm to sweetnes. thank you for your time.

  • Is that a criticism or compliment?

  • Oh my god fucking swote
