Don't know if anyone knows this, but the TV Licensing is actually to watch programs broadcasted on BBC as they are being shown, it was originally called the BBC Licence, as they were the first tv broadcasting channel in britain, now, they change the name from BBC Licence to TV Licence, maybe because the fact that people can get away with watching non-bbc channels and lieing to the bbc.
That's why when you get the TV licence people knocking on your door, they always ask "hello sir/madam, are you happy with the BBC broadcasting services, yes? and are you currently pay your tv licence?", it's real sneaky way to catch you off guard, they did to me, I just moved....LOL, now with the switch over, if you practually don't have a digibox, then there is less evidence that you can pickup channels the old fashion way, often they put their finger in the arial socket and accuse you there.

TBH if you had removed implied right of access, you should have done 2 things only, 1: Answer the door and delay them as long as possible. 2: Call the police immediately and report trespassers.

@fuelban I have a TV plugged in for watching DVD's and videos, and I do not need a TV licence. My TV is not capable of receiving a broadcast signal. That is the key here, NO BROADCAST SIGNAL. For eg, you do not need a TV licence for CCTV monitors. My TV is a monitor for DVD's and VHS videos.

You don't need a licence even if you have 5 televisions or 5 computers in your house. You only need a licence if you watch or record LIVE TV broadcasts. If you want to do that, you require one.
Ive stopped paying mine this year. I watch anything I need to on catchup television websites like iPlayer or itvPlayer. It's perfectly legal as long as they're not being broadcast live.

Sorry if the answer is obvious but as an American I've never understood just what their rationale is for requiring a license for watching a TV Program. So I have to pay more for a product due to the cost of the commercials. At least with TV licenses, only the people who watch get to pay. If you have a device, be it TV, Radio, Computer, or any recording device thats capable of letting you watch, listen, or record a signal as its broadcast, then you must have a licence.
You can however get away with a computer as long as there is no TV Receiver card or similar either connected inside, or to the Computer.
You will almost always get away with a PC because no official can view your PC without a warrant.
They cannot refuse to be filmed or photographed on your property; they don't have any right to enter or search your property, unless they have a search warrant signed by a magistrate; they have no right to ask for any information about you; they have no right to be on your property without your permission. The only legal right they have is to leave your property without interference when asked to do so.

@fuelban I have a TV plugged in for watching DVD's and videos, and I do not need a TV licence. My TV is not capable of receiving a broadcast signal. That is the key here, NO BROADCAST SIGNAL. For eg, you do not need a TV licence for CCTV monitors. My TV is a monitor for DVD's and VHS videos.

You don't need a licence even if you have 5 televisions or 5 computers in your house. You only need a licence if you watch or record LIVE TV broadcasts. If you want to do that, you require one.
Ive stopped paying mine this year. I watch anything I need to on catchup television websites like iPlayer or itvPlayer. It's perfectly legal as long as they're not being broadcast live.
I've had letters and now me and my property are UNDER INVESTIGATION. I can't wait to tell them to F^ck right off.

Every year they put out a press release of what they call 'top excuses' for not having a licence.
E.g: "I do not have a TV as a squirrel weed on the last one"
This particularly annoys me as they are so ignorant that they cannot tell the difference between an invalid excuse and a potentially valid one. Even if it turned out to be untrue in the particular case, some of their examples are legally valid reasons for not needing a licence.

I've had similar problems. Even if you have a TV, they have no right to force you to purchase a license if you do not use it to watch or record live television. This is straight from their site: 'No TV Licence is needed if you don't use any of these devices to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV - for example, if you use your TV only to watch DVDs or play video games, or you only watch programmes on your computer after they have been shown on TV.'

@DidloDurante People in the US even pay for "free" TV. How much more do products cost because of the costs of ads on TV? I don't watch regular TV, just programming online. So I have to pay more for a product due to the cost of the commercials. At least with TV licenses, only the people who watch get to pay. The only real issue I have with TV licensing is TV license agents coming to your door to harass you.
If we had quality commercial free programs like in the UK I might go for a tv license.

If you have a device, be it TV, Radio, Computer, or any recording device thats capable of letting you watch, listen, or record a signal as its broadcast, then you must have a licence.
You can however get away with a computer as long as there is no TV Receiver card or similar either connected inside, or to the Computer.
You will almost always get away with a PC because no official can view your PC without a warrant.

They cannot refuse to be filmed or photographed on your property; they don't have any right to enter or search your property, unless they have a search warrant signed by a magistrate; they have no right to ask for any information about you; they have no right to be on your property without your permission.
