It's a dog's instinct to protect his territory from strangers. I know some dogs are vicious to anybody when their master isn't around but when the master is their they will be as playful as a kitten to those same people.

i just got attacked by a pitbull today, me and my friend were just talking and then out of nowhere a large pitbull comes chargeing towards me, me and my friend tryed to run, but the pitbull caught up to me and rammed me in the chest , then the pitbull grabed my leg and started shaking it!! i manged to escape, but i was GOT hurt! D: my leg is all scared up and bloody!
why do you teach your pup to play tug-of-war? it's a well-known fact that that kind of behavior should not be awarded in this type of breed. i am proud and responsible pitbull owner, who has done a lot of research on the breed and their tendencies. you have to realize that even if they're playing, that could be someone's arm one day. they aren't vicious animals. they just play rough. you have to TRAIN them not to. your dog is beautiful, by the way.

Because of this by lay, two family mixed dogs have been held and are awaiting examination by an independent vet. These dogs have done nothing but love their families.

Just to get something straight..........I don't like this 'breed'. I will NEVER own one. I guess we agree on that. I am happy with labs and shepherds and husky type mixed dogs. I have had dogs all my life and not one of them have been vicious or unpredictable unless you try to do harm to the family. What I also dont like is ignoring the real problem. It is easier to kill a dog than fine and jail an owner............Peace

@777jonah888 Killing pit bulls is really unlikely. My goal is to see them eradicated by preventing the future breeding of new dogs. I do everything I can to promote pit bull bans. I know people don't like it but that's the way I feel. There is no place on this earth for killer dogs like these. The handwriting is on the wall.

@777jonah888 UM, THE ONLY REASON I RESEARCHED THEM is because I was attacked by my best friends Pit Bull Last Week during at my own birthday party. The dog would not let up. Funny thing is, I've pet that dog many times before, for some "animal tree hugger" reason, it decided to attack me that day. I don't like Pit Bulls and I equate Pit Bulls to Crocodiles, Coyotes, and Wolves. You see a wolf, you kill it. I don't play that "he's a friendly wolf" crap.

I have a Pittbull he is a lovely dog well behaved, this is a game he loves to play, its not agressive. but I would say that chain around ur dog can't be comfortable for him, perhaps a little kindness and just get him a nice collar?

it's up to the owners to make sure they don't attack. it all depends on their upbringing and the environment in which they are raised. however, they are not naturally friendly. most dog attacks you hear about are from pitbulls and even though the owners are to blame in a lot of cases, there is a reason for the reputation pitbulls have.

All dogs have their own temperament. This does not mean that one is evil. Dogs are one of the most affectionate, playful, loving and loyal organisms on the face of the earth.
The breed of the dog has nothing to do with it, period. It is macho fools that want to change their dogs temperament from docile to fierce. Instead of listening to the media, concentrating on the few terrible attacks by certain breeds, do some research on animal behavior. You will be surprised.

My german shepard/rottie mix is by far more well behaved than my mother's beagle/basset mix, which by the way has probably sent more people to the E.R. than any pitbull you've ever come in contact with. My dog? Might lick a hole in your arm before she ever bit you. The dog's reactions aren't sudden, just built up over a period of time of bad ownership.

Actually a lot of other breeds attack people regularly. There was an article in this weeks local news paper about a Lab. atack on a little girl. Its just the media doesnt want to waste time on dogs like that when they can go after the horrible, vicious pitbull. Fact, 99% of pitbull attacks are not APBT they are some mixed mutt that was probably bred so some hick could make a quick $50.

Pitbulls were originally bred for fighting and historically in a dog fight there was a man in the ring "the handler" and in order to be a good fighting dog you must have been NOT human aggressive since humans play a role in the disgusting act of dog fighting.
