The engine room scenes in latest film "Titanic" were indeed filmed on a Liberty ship, but it was the Jeremiah O'Brian berthed at pier 45 San francisco. I toured the ship last year and there are pictures on display in the engine room of scenes from the film their engine room was used in.
I believe it was, however, er, I haven't seen the Titanic film!
I went to New Zealand in 1998 and rode on the TS 'Earnslaw' which is just about 100 years old. Japanese visitors (of whom there are many in NZ) were greatly excited by the resemblance between that boat's engines and those in the Titanic film.
No the engine in the titanic film was the River Don Engine in sheffield at Kelham Island Industrial Museum. and can be seen in steam twise a day.(it's the largest working steam engine in europe and possibley the world)

There seems to be some competition for the honour of being the engine filmed for the Titanic film!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I suppose one way to settle the matter is to find out from the film credits or website!

No this was the engine used in SOS Titanic.
To simulate the flooding of the ships engine room they removed some covers from the pumps and let water rush out.
It nearly washed away the camera crew at one point.
The River Don engine was a rolling mill engine.
Neither engine really represents a marine steam engine very well.

Ohhps, I should have read the entire post. The John Brown engine room was filmed on the Leonardo DiCaprio version of Titanic.
