  • That poor saber is jacked!

  • ...the Hyperdyne may be the brightest blade available but i heard that the big problem is you only get like 45mins. to 1hr. worth of "playtime" before it needs to be recharge?...i want at least 4-5hrs continuous on of playtime...

  • This is why barely anyone uses the hyperdyne board. It sucks

  • @TheBFXfan25 This video is 4 years old, and it demonstrates the v1 and v2 boards. More recently, Hyperdyne created a board that is very similar to CF (it uses an SD card). I haven't heard it in person, though.

The original Hyperboards were victim to the HORRIBLE sampling/mixing/transitions with the sounds. The sounds were a travesty, & could have been done a lot better.

This is part of the reason why making "sound fonts"... is a precise work of art, not just a mishmash of SW sounds.

  • Is this Blade alot stronger then UltraSaber's blades? I can definitly tell its brighter, but is it stronger?

  • @Nuva911 The design of the Hyperblade is similar to the "LED ladder" PCBs in some of the toys seen in stores... but the design of placing electronics INSIDE the "blade" leaves it open to systemic failure.

In other words... although you can CERTAINLY bash and hit an Ultrablade on something over and over--it's only a matter of time before you loosen, break, crack, or destroy something on the "LED ladder" or printed circuit board (PCB) that keeps the blade working.

So, the short answer is "No".

  • On bad thing about this blade that isnt described in the video is the blade has bad motion sensors and when lightsabers hit each other the sound fx are off abd not in great sync

  • @totizedger The video speaks for itself. You can see how it behaves... you can hear how it behaves. It is what it is.

That being said--this is an old video now. I don't even have this saber anymore... it was donated to someone who wanted a quasi-display piece.

But everyone can make their own assessments and/or judgements, that's sure. :)

  • hbuzzing sound is mega annoying

  • is it the blue saber that Luke use on the Battle of Hoth?

  • lol the way you "fixed" the black spot is just hilarious.

  • if u put a new blade in it would it work regularly again

  • COOL!!

  • its really to bad the sensitivity in the hyperblades is so off and the sound is not to good but it sounds a bit to do with the speaker, so bright though ill bet those look during the day look like a Lux at night o.O

  • Unfortunately, this had nothing to do with the speaker. The speaker would also NOT produce a "repeatable click/pop" that occurred at regular intervals (due to speaker damage/defect).

The strange hum & click sound is due to what is called a non-zero crossing error in the waveforms that are being chained together for playback.

    It's hard to explain.

  • lol, at 3:18, your cat moves nova!!! omg.

    mmafighter

  • evertime you cuss i have a habit that i laugh when i hear someone cuss cuz im a kid so its funny to me

  • 1:57-1:9 so like lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL its like u started caring less and less that u were cussing.

  • hi Novastar, how does the sound go compared to the plecter sabercore? do you think the hyperblade would be able to be rewired with the plecterboard?

    cheers

  • Where can I get my hands on a hyperblade!? Links Please!

  • why not just but a force fx?

  • In some ways I agree regarding COST, but... there is just *NO* way a Force FX is as bright as Hyperdyne's sabers. Not a ~~chance~~.

I mean, Luxeon-style sabers are already brighter than MRs... so the H-blade would simply DESTROY the MRs, drown out their light and make it look like a dim piece of garbage.

But yes... nicer sabers = cost prohibitive sometimes... :)

  • Dude Novastar XD that was hilarious bro. So I'm guessing that hyperblades suck now, or...?

  • I don't think "suck" is the best way to explain it--it's really a matter of many factors, including that this WAS only a "v1" or "v2" I believe. Also, it is definitely very bright.

Whether that warrants the extra expense, blade weight, possible damage to electronics in the blade and battery/heat issues... well--THAT is up to the buyer.

  • dude dat was awesome.....love da part when u hit da saber n it turns on da blank spot...lol

  • can you duel with those or will they break?

  • The electronics in the blade CAN be damaged with enough severe hits/force (as seen in the video). But it's certainly not to say that they are "fragile".

So... duel? Yes. With extreme speed, spirit and martial abandon? Not on my watch.

  • i read the comments and it does sount like a vacume cleaner lol

  • cool light emiting diode stick dude i wish i knew so much about toys! hhaha

  • LoL nice brightness but it sounds like a Vacume cleaner :)

  • Hey Greytale!! I love this review. The way you soldier-on, despite all the problems, and actually manage to do a pretty good(fair and balanced) review is quite remarkable! This makes me laugh - EVERY time I watch it. BIG KUDOS. Your saber sounds like a hoover though.. ;)

  • Thanks... I did my best to be fair, although I did NOT make some "uber-scientific" experiment. If you want that though... Eandori has made a video for that. Hopefully he'll "respond with video" on this one sometime, but... it's there! :)

  • "I shouldn't swear some kid might be watching" rofl

  • Thanks.

  • Nice lightsaber!

Is that a Master Replicas Graflex hilt or a custom hilt made from a real Graflex flash?

  • I believe it is a replica (and not a "true" Graflex), but... I don't know for certain.

But it is not an MR replica. Those do not have the working clamp and working glass eye buttons/knobs. :)

The saber electronics are made by Jim Shima of Hyperdynelabs.

  • its good but can u hurt people with it

  • Why, certainly. Getting thwacked on the head with a polycarbonate tube equals a nice sized headache.

Anyone who wants their skull thumped can try a thick-walled polycarbonate blade Luxeon, H-blade or otherwise.

  • That's funny. :P

  • Man whoever you got that from, royally fucked it up before hand. Poor saber.

Still haven't powder coated my Lux yet if you were curious. It's still naked.

  • PS I think the popping is the speaker on the bottom being low quality and cant handle how loud it is

  • No, the speaker is fine. The problem is also repetitive and only occurs as the hum sound loops, or a swing or clash is made and returns back to the hum sound. It is some kind of non-"zero-crossing" issue... or just the fact that it was Jim's v1.

But the speaker is just fine--in terms of quality.

  • So whats up with the top of it? Why does it go on and off?

  • Having a CF and a V1 Hyperblade set up, I can tell you that the CF's motion detection is far, far better. I can't speak for the newer set up though. Thanks for posting these vids, Novastar.

  • It would be neat if you could post a comparison video of your CF and V1, just so we have more of these out there =P

  • I would, but my V1 Hyperblade is in pieces at the moment and I'm too lazy to put it together. That, and I don't have a video recorder handy.

  • LOL, that motion sensor reminds me of the good old darth vader ANH FX's motion sensors.

  • Yeah... The sound in those guys SUCKS!

  • Yep. Missed a few bleeps. Lol.

Hyperblades are really impressive. Might have a lot of cons to it, but still, awesome technology.

  • I don't know about a LOT of cons... it all depends on what is a minor or major concern to the user. Some people don't need super long runtime on a setting 10 H-blade, and as another example... if you don't duel very hard--these things will survive for a LONNNNNNG time!

Besides... like so many things... they ALL have pros and cons. Changing the color in a Luxeon can be a pain... and when outside/in moderate sunlight... A Hyper will beat the Luxeon as far as I believe...

  • i thought you could duel with them??......so you think i should not duel with them??

  • If a Luxeon won't show up when outside/in moderate sunlight, but a Hyper will. Doesn't this make the Hyper brighter? Why is it in your comparison videos you visually see them neck and neck? With no "gargantuant" difference?

  • You can't see ANY blade outside in broad daylight. Eandori showed that in his videos.

  • not true to the new hyperblades, i believe. they are uber bright

  • Look up the videos... it's a new blade. No they aren't visible as they are indoors. From a distance longer than you can touch anything will look like just a stick.

  • Well, you missed a few bleeps. Or do you just bleep sometimes and not others? lol

  • You missed a bleep Greytale! lol

  • [Comment part II] Again, I'm not judging, just like Novastar said, it's just that brightness is a thing, but interactivity with a saber is important and the pleasure of a great sound interaction added to the comfort of a well balanced saber are more important to me than absolute best brightness ever.

Again, this is a personnal comment, not a tomato throwing.

    Erv'

  • great video ! I think it's great you mention keypoints about your use of sabers. Not that it's the same for everyone, but you have specific needs for stage combat, and balancing for instance is important.

Hyperblade is bright. No doubt about it ! As for the sound... I won't be the right person to comment that since I would be called "biaised guy" but... I still can't deal with the almost one second delay between the impact and the clash sound, neither with the poppy / click sound.

  • Oops, I DID forget to mention the delay between detections... but... I think people can make assessments as needed. Besides, it's only version 1. Maybe version 2 has better latency/timing. I don't know.

  • More information about the Hyperdyne product. Thanks for showing this!!!

I really do like that blue Hyperdyne. Unless blue luxeon technology gets it's act together, I may get a blue hyperdyne setup at some point in the future. I really need to hear what the sound font is like on V2 boards though... and I hope the motion sensor is a little more dialed in then the V1 you were using there.

  • Cool Vid Nova,What's Up With The Begining? Is The Hyperdyne Like a Stock FX Lightsaber With All The LED's In The Blade?Anyway Still Looks Cool

  • If you're asking what I think you're asking... a Hyperdyne saber's blade contains an array of LEDs placed onto a wafer/strip PCB (or 3 in the case of the 3-sectional blades). Jim's design is completely different from the Luxeon style. It does indeed look cool!!
