Amazing which lyric will stick in some part of the brain for decades... "it hasn't got a garden... but it's got a lovely patio..." In this one song the Kinks foresaw the whole garden grabbing, scumbag estate agent, sub prime financial capitalist shitbag thing.

This is probably the most bizarre concept album/show I've ever heard. It's really growing on me, though - especially Act 2!

Well I've listened to Preservation part 1. Daylight is quite OK, Definitely written for the stage. Sweet Lady Geneiveve is the jewel in this colection. One of Ray's best. One of the survivors and Sitting in the Midday un are solid tunes. But the rest just aren't that memorable. 2.5 stars. I'll listen to act II now.

@sometimeworld.... you come across as one who may be a 1-time-listen-thru-er critic, who may get the most enjoyment by sticking to greatest hits and other predetermined-for-you compilations...most of the great music that stays in my life is the stuff that i had to hear 4-5 times to get thru my thick judgemental skull just how priceless it is, for it to truly to come into focus....another one of the countless cuts that get better with time:

Beatles: pop

Who: beer

Stones: liquor

KinKs: wine
