Personally I have seen engines that I think are more beautiful than 4449 but that is a matter of opinion. NSWGR's 3801 is more impressive IMHO, followed by the A4 Pacifics in the UK, then followed by 4449
Thumbs up if you think Amtrak should reinstate the Coast Daylight between San Francisco and LA. Paint the train in original Daylight Red and Orange. Add Bulldog Noses to the locomotives to make it look like the Daylights' E-9 engines. Then have SP 4449 pull the Inauguration Train!
@WorldOfNothin Southern Pacific 4449 still runs. It does not haul regular revenue passenger trains but pulls several excursions a year. check out youtube for videos!
@mjkft22 yeah actually not even sure why i put that comment on this video lol I know it still runs........I'm really confused why I said that I must have been meaning to comment on something else and some how did it on the wrong one, I don't know.......oh well
Let this be a reminder to all of how truly great this country once was. It makes me smile but weep at the same time...I have always firmly believed I was born 50 years too late.
I just discovered the song at the time and I wanted to use it in my latest video. My next video is going to feature Train Kept a Rollin by Aerosmith. So look forward to that coming. ;)
You guys on the west coast are lucky you have 4449. In Indianapolis we have 2-8-2 #587 that pulls the state fairtrain but its been out for repairs for about 5 years.
Ahh, the good times when the 4449 had a matching set of coaches. Its a shame that she now runs with mismatched pirvate owner cars. I'd much rather see a matching train again.
I saw it almost every weekday back in 1951 - 1955. Bayshore Yard, San Francisco, CA. Funny thing is we didn't know it would become "The World's Most Beautiful Train."
The music, the footage, the theme... EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! BTW, I'm A HUGE Daylight fan! I actually rode behind 4449 and 700 at the 2005 NRHS Convention!
this is the most beutiful of all engines

There is an error in the begining, its not the world's most beautiful train its "The Most Beautiful Train In The World".
ThomasRivette 2 years ago
Does it make THAT MUCH of a difference?

The Most Beautiful Train is the American Freedom train #4449!
kingelvis24 3 years ago
Same locomotive; special paint scheme. Actually the most beautiful train in the world is the George Washington with a C&O J-2 on the point.

It's so sad that there are only two of the GS engines left. They were, and still should be, the pride of the Southern Pacific line.

Awesome. What's that song at the end too?
THEFINALHAZARD 3 years ago
The song that played when the credits were rolling is "Foggy mountain Breakdown". It's an old bluegrass standard.

ooh me too!
i remember the Ns steam excursions with 611 and 1218
she always had a 20 car lashup with all newly painted matching cars, and no helper diesels
she ran at 79MPH most of the time too, none of this 50mph crap you see now
ahh good ole days haha

As for 4449's trip, I might post a video or two :)
