  • this is the most beutiful of all engines

  • Personally I have seen engines that I think are more beautiful than 4449 but that is a matter of opinion. NSWGR's 3801 is more impressive IMHO, followed by the A4 Pacifics in the UK, then followed by 4449

  • Thumbs up if you think Amtrak should reinstate the Coast Daylight between San Francisco and LA. Paint the train in original Daylight Red and Orange. Add Bulldog Noses to the locomotives to make it look like the Daylights' E-9 engines. Then have SP 4449 pull the Inauguration Train!

  • Wow, three people who grew up way too fast. Poor folks.

  • in the first clip that has the whistle is that a original gs-4 whistle?

  • kind of sad that it doesnt run anymore!!! Would love to have been able to ride behind that engine!!!

  • @WorldOfNothin Southern Pacific 4449 still runs. It does not haul regular revenue passenger trains but pulls several excursions a year. check out youtube for videos!

  • @mjkft22 yeah actually not even sure why i put that comment on this video lol I know it still runs........I'm really confused why I said that I must have been meaning to comment on something else and some how did it on the wrong one, I don't know.......oh well

  • This is NOT "Foggy Mountain Breakdown"!

  • @my2cents2u Idk how that even got there. I know its not. Its When The Train Comes Along by David Holt.

  • I liked the last few seconds seeing the daylight on the East bank of the Los Angeles River and the street car crossing. Gone forever!!!!!!!!

  • nice video and she is the USAs most beautiful steam train

but for the world it would have to be the LMS duchess class locomotive number 6223 Duchess of sutherland

  • Were can I get that song?

  • It's on iTunes. 'When the Train Comes Along' by David Holt. The album is 'I Got a Bullfrog'.

  • Let this be a reminder to all of how truly great this country once was. It makes me smile but weep at the same time...I have always firmly believed I was born 50 years too late.

  • There is an error in the begining, its not the world's most beautiful train its "The Most Beautiful Train In The World".

  • Does it make THAT MUCH of a difference?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes it does, because that's how the origional saying goes. And it shall be that way, FOREVER!!!!

  • Good videos and good song, too.

  • What a great video! 5*s and favorited. I watched this several times and will again for shure!

  • Excellent video.

  • The Most Beautiful Train is the American Freedom train #4449!

  • Same locomotive; special paint scheme. Actually the most beautiful train in the world is the George Washington with a C&O J-2 on the point.

  • It's so sad that there are only two of the GS engines left. They were, and still should be, the pride of the Southern Pacific line.

  • Awesome. What's that song at the end too?

  • The song that played when the credits were rolling is "Foggy mountain Breakdown". It's an old bluegrass standard.

  • I just discovered the song at the time and I wanted to use it in my latest video. My next video is going to feature Train Kept a Rollin by Aerosmith. So look forward to that coming. ;)

  • @traintownofcowee I'm a fan of the SP and Aerosmith. I can't wait. Train 'Kept a Rollin' is an awesome song!

  • I got this on DVD!!!!

  • Outstanding video. Makes me want to go on a train trip, but it wouldn't be the same now, would it.

  • its nice to see the conducter wave at :54

  • This is awesome considering when the clips were taken. Nice choice of sceneries, too.

Is that a LARy trolley at 2:40?

  • song???

  • When The Train Comes Along by David Holt.

  • incredably good video. love the David Holt thrown in there too.

  • You guys on the west coast are lucky you have 4449. In Indianapolis we have 2-8-2 #587 that pulls the state fairtrain but its been out for repairs for about 5 years.

  • Ahh, the good times when the 4449 had a matching set of coaches. Its a shame that she now runs with mismatched pirvate owner cars. I'd much rather see a matching train again.

  • ooh me too!

i remember the Ns steam excursions with 611 and 1218

she always had a 20 car lashup with all newly painted matching cars, and no helper diesels

she ran at 79MPH most of the time too, none of this 50mph crap you see now

    ahh good ole days haha

  • i agree

  • Great stuff!

  • I saw it almost every weekday back in 1951 - 1955. Bayshore Yard, San Francisco, CA. Funny thing is we didn't know it would become "The World's Most Beautiful Train."

  • Absolutely Awesome!

  • where did you get all the footage for this video?

  • Nice video.

    trainmaster844, you rode behind it?

I got about 5' from the tracks as it wizzed by here in 2000.

  • your lucky too.

i live in VA, and the only thing we have is Cass RR (shays/heislers) since Norfolk and Southern put up 611 and 1218 :(

    i chased the 611 in 1992

  • You are all lucky, but up here in Minnesota we have the Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 #261 that I've ridden behind TWICE!!! It has a really nice whistle too!

  • yea and she romps all over the midwest too

she doesn't seem to have any problems getting trackage to run on

  • hey that was the year i was born in u must be older than me

  • The music, the footage, the theme... EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! BTW, I'm A HUGE Daylight fan! I actually rode behind 4449 and 700 at the 2005 NRHS Convention!

    KEEP ON STEAMING!

  • waitwait... WHAT!!? I've only seen 1522 ad 3985 from a distance. Lucky!

  • You're lucky yet to see #1522 in action. I saw the LOUDEST engine in America STANDING STILL on my vacation to St. Louis.

As for 4449's trip, I might post a video or two :)

    STAY TUNED!

  • of course I saw 1522. I live in St. Louis!

  • lucky

  • I've stood 6 feet from 4449 several times as it whizzrs by, and 844 AND 4449 together also. Quite loud, and awesome.

  • Fantastic video, loved watching it!
