Thanks so much for the great lessons. I'm a retired teacher and coach learning to play. I know a good teacher when I see and hear one, and you are a good teacher!

  • I wish my guitar sounded as beautiful as yours!

I'm only a beginner, but everytime I play it just sounds like noise and not music Dx

  • Marty can you teach us to play the intro song from the movie Desperado, its called "cancion del mariachi" antonio banderas plays it in the movie :D

  • im ak id i know dat song marty........

  • @deanleventis04 Actually the second best song to learn should be first & it's "tomorrow never knows" by the Beatles. Reason being that the whole song is played in Cmajor. Just one chord throughout the song.

  • is that the whole song?

  • I like how you called that D chord "dimented". ^_^ Nothing but a bit of humor to spice up some music theory. As always, thanks for your informative lessons!

  • Great tutorial!

  • this is great thanks a lot ;)

  • best horse with no name tutorial on here !! easy to follow !!!

  • this is a great first song to learn. so whats the best second song to learn on the acoustic??? help please

  • i need help with the song morticains daughter by black veil brides

  • thanks man!

  • Should I use a pick? My brother said not to but I trust an expert more...

  • @norcalprogressive depends, if you use it all the choirds should sound good, and if you dont you gotta practics. i prefer not to, its easier not to(i always lose my picks xD) and i think you can put more emotion in it without pick(you can strike harder now and then, for example). also its easier to switch between finger picking and strumming choirds without pick.

  • @norcalprogressive It depends on your feel. The pick makes it louder, and easier to strum. I would suggest getting used to a pick.

  • Thanks Marty Dude!!!!!

  • High as a kite.

  • manuel.aguilar21@yahoo.com

  • i am 12 and i love this song

i feel so good that i have learn it

    thank youuu marty

  • If anyone is confused about the 2nd chord you use with that x. You mute it with your index finger while playing so you will gently be on the string.

  • Thx :)

  • Any beginners should check this guy out.

    Thanks Marty.

  • WOW! I just clicked on here...exactly two years ago to THE DAY that Marty put this video on here! He put it on here on Dec 17, 2009, and today is Dec 17, 2011. I know, I know...whoopdee do, huh? LOL Way to go Marty. Love ALL your lessons. Thanks a gazillion!! :D)

  • This guy is the best guitar teacher ever. Period.

  • do you press on the strigs so it touces the wood or do you just put your fingers on it, im confuzed

  • @zsxwrsd yeah you have to put pressure down on the strings

  • @zsxwrsd heh, you have to press them until they touch the wood, it might seem hard at first but you're hands get stronger and you can do it without thinking after awhile..

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH MARTY YOU RULE

  • the ballad of curtis lowe

  • gracias a ti ya me aprendí mi primera canción

  • UGH. i'm a complete beginner and i am having a hard time with this :) how am i so stupid. i can do the Em no problem and my fingers do the D6/9 fine, but i can't get the strumming for the D6/9 to save my life. FML!

  • a lot of kids don't know the song? it's in GTA san andreas so.... Am i glad my playstation broke and i decided it would be cool to get the dust off my guitar instead :p Great videos man! i never thought i would be playing a recognizable songs in less than 24 hours after picking up the guitar.

  • I am trying very hard to play this on the saxophone but it is very hard to sing along with it.

  • I believe that horse in the pic there, happens to be a female.

  • Are you sure your not Niko bellics cousin?

  • learned it in 2 min. or 6 smthn like that. Thx a lot :D

  • that WAS cool thx dude :)

  • Did he mean D diminished? Or is there a dimented chord?

  • @theescondidoroad yes u play every note except the A u need to mute it 0 means open x means mute/dntvplay nd the numbers represent what Fret you play it on but you can tell that by his playing hope this helped :]

  • I got my guitar 2 days ago. Thanks to you,I know to play this song TODAY! :D

  • Does it matter how my fingers are. I use the index and middle with the chords but my ringer finger and pinky are more towards the other end of the higher strings as opposed to low strings...anyone who can answer is fine.

  • thanks alot where do make you my friend

  • I know this song of Grand Theft Auto!! :D

  • Marty, you are the best teacher on YT hands down. There is one thing I don't understand however. The graphic at 1:58 for the second chord shows: 2-x-0-2-0-0. So you play every string EXCEPT the A string? Is this correct? Your voice over doesn't address this at all and it seems weird to me. Also, if correct, isn't that a really tough chord for a beginner? I'm sure for experienced players the answer is obvious, but for beginners this can really mess them up if it's a mistake.

  • @theescondidoroad Seeing as no on has replied to you on this, I'll give it a go.

I'm pretty sure it mean that you mute the chord. By that, I mean, you have your "pointing" finger, which is on the e string, put a bit of pressure on the string below at the same time. But not a lot of pressure, you want to mute the string so it makes little sound when strumming. And no, it's not a very hard thing to do... It's actually probably easier, cause you can be a bit "lazy" with your pointing finger :)

  • @Thetimpson : THANK YOU T, I know it sounded like a stupid question, but I'm a rank beginner. i'm sure Marty was thinking "great, a nitwit who caan't even figure THIS out." My confusion stems from the fact that i thought it meant strum the E-D-G-B-E strings while skipping the A on the strum stroke. THAT seemed really tough, especially for a beginner, the "finger point mute" technique sounds way more resonable.

I don't think teachers realize that the simplest stuff might need explanation THX

  • @theescondidoroad Haha, sure no problem =)

And yeah, strumming E-D-G-B-E while skipping A seems almost impossible ._.

But sure so you know, you can just play it straight, without muting the A chord - and it still sounds pretty good.

    (Especially if you're new, etc)

  • @theescondidoroad -- just tilt your finger pressing on the second fret of the E string to touch the A string a little bit with the fleshy part of your finger. it should just make a clicking noise when you strum it slow.

  • @hanzmasterflash And it's easier than it sounds. This usually happens on other cords by accident as a beginner mistake. Now you want to make it intentional for this cord.

  • @theescondidoroad

u mute this string by touching it with your finger that i pushing first tring on 2th fret

  • @theescondidoroad on the horse with no name, on that chord just rake it. it is really simple once you learn it.

  • @theescondidoroad

Hmmm... I've been playing this chord wrong apparently for almost a year now. If there is an x on the 5th string that means he is muting it by resting the bottom of his pointer finger slightly on it. You just touch the 5th string with your pointer a little bit while it's fingering the 6th. Or it's a typo :)

  • @theescondidoroad yuse your pointer to cover the a but not fully

  • heheh he said great feedback like guitar feed back ha

  • @theescondidoroad you mute the A string

  • @theescondidoroad You need to put your finger a little bit on the chord (which is "x") just to doesn't make the sound of this.

  • @theescondidoroad seems to mean its muted, so you don't avoid that string, you just mute it with another finger.

  • @theescondidoroad - I agree, I quit my music teacher because he was trying to milk me for my money. Like he was scared I'd get good and quit. I learn so much more from these yt videos. You can let the bottom strings ring but focus is mainly on the top four. Its a pretty simple chord. You dont really have to think about muting the second string, it should come natural. I saw the america playing this and he actually looks like he plays the last three strokes as 0-0-0-2-0-0

  • du du du dudu du. du

  • I'm half way in between the fast and slow versions LOL...getting there, Marty. BTW, I would love to hear "Touched By The Sun" by Carly Simon. :)

  • GOOD 2 C U OUT THERE TEACHING THE GROUND ZERO BEGINNERS. IF I HAD THE INTERNET WHEN I STARTED PLAYIN IN 1978 , I MIGHT B GOOD AS MY FRIENDS TELL ME i AM.

  • okey I'm a begginner but how to make it "ring"?

cause I read it in a lot tabs that you have to "let it ring"

  • @phoaster it just means to sustain the note, as in when you hit it, don't cancel the sound, just let it die on its own

  • hey i know it and im yunger :)

  • Marty you're the best teacher on the net, no one even gets close to you

  • Awesome! Thank you very much!

  • Thanks for this mr....what about shaft theme...

  • I had trouble with this lesson on one tiny part. The second strumming pattern. If anyone has the same problem just realize its like this (D D D U D U D U D U (pause) U D U then restart)

  • this was cool thanks for your time with these videos and whatnot

  • i know this song from GTA sanandreas

  • tank you very much !

  • say chuck norris! XD

  • I am a non guitar player but interested in how things are done. Now, I listened the studioversion on this song and there - in my ears- sounds to be a higher 3rd chord where the lyrics go" buzz of a fly" . Is it just a matter of arrangement in strumming these two chords or a real 3rd chord?

  • Did anyone notice how this sound the same as "Come as you're" by Nirvana?

  • OMG I ACTUALLY CAN PLAY IT NOW :D

  • @gmtwich09 so can i! these lessons really help, unlike other lessons

  • Are you supposed to mute the A string on the D chord?

  • Guys! It's hopeless to talk about 'which GTA is better' I know I enjoy it too but i came here for a guitar lesson and I just checked the comments to see if it's easy to learn cause I just got my guitar few days ago and I see this bunch of crap. If you look down at the comments you can see very young people try to learn this and if they want other people's advice like me all they're gonna see is this stupid swearing competition. I'm 13 and I just came here to learn how to play a song!

  • You´re Great :DD thanks
