this stuff is exciting but honestly after flying myself the average flight i found to be quite un-exciting. Without the earth as a close referance point to speed and movement the feeling is simply not there....
GLOC is based on onset rate and number of Gs. Short people with high blood pressure have a higher resting G tolerance, but you have to be in shape enough to hold a g strain for the duration of the maneuver. If you run marathons, maybe then you have super low blood pressure and it's a factor, but it's not usually a player in the high-g environment.
get in shape and just fly. it's amazing how not pulling Gs for a couple of months can change how your body handles it. some people black out at 4 some people who are in shape black out at 13... it all depends on how long you sustain the high G maneuvers. Aerobatic flying is VERY tiring. when i'm not in shape after 45 minutes i just take a nap ;)
from what i've heard being in shape will cause you to be more likely to black out than an overweight person with no workout plan or diet. Since healthy people have lower blood pressures, it is easier for them to lose blood from their head, whereas out of shape people have more blood pressure, and the blood is more likely to stay in their head. Again, just from what i've heard. Anyone with a personal account on this?
This is correct to an extent. Some lucky fighter pilots have naturally high blood pressure and therefore have less of a chance to black out in similar circumstances to those with lower blood pressures, this is why short, stocky blokes (in general) can handel g's better, but this is not a cover all rule of measure.
Not true at all. While high blood pressure helps, that's not what keeps your eyes open when things get dark. All the fighter jocks I know will tell you good AGSM is more important than your body type.
@Tyler2908KU there are plenty of people that have hit 13G's its for how long you sustain the G's thats the limiting factor. people that arn't used to it will black out alot sooner than that, you can die from high G loads but its usually a black out that results in a loss of control and the crash is what kills you. Also negative G's are far more dangerous that positive G's Pilots that can do 10 positive all day usually can't do more than 4 or 5 negative.
Haha, thats not realy a crosswind landing, in sports aircraft such as the Extra 300, MXS, Pits Special and the One Desgin, there is little visibility while taxing or landing due the angle of the nose. To see where you are going, you have to go from side, to side and in landing suddenly kick the tail round when you are about to land (like in the video)
Wow...in the race with all that speed they get time to check the velocity and have conscience on how much G's they can pull and how tight the turn will be, all of this in a fracction of seccond...simply perfect.
Okay I have a question. In playstation home they just added this new Red Bull Air Race game. I would like to know what is the best way to cut my time down? I like to run full throttle and tight turns. I think I lose speed in the turns. What should I be doing to go faste?
wow, on such high speeds, do you have time to look at those instruments. I understand a quick glance at airspeed or altitude is ok but do you have time to read messages on that redbull digital instrument? That is simply amazing that these pilots can keep their concentration on race, and all that equipment too. cheers to them
man..i learnt pro skating slalom and thought it was the coolest thing, i watched soccer and keepers dive and touught it was the most coolest thing ever.. then i watched the f1 night race in singapore.. and thought that was the coolest.. now i see this.. and i have nothing to say.. im to stunned by everything.. now im gonna be a pilot ^^
There are more specific subscripts for different aircraft configurations, such as Vs0, and Vs1 etc. however an aircraft such as those you find in RBA do not have flaps, and retractable landing gear etc so Vs0=Vs1=Vs, and this is simply the +1G stall speed.
Oh, and The Extra 300s have very similar Vs of 55 knots (though in the ones I fly the airspeed indicator shows Vs as 60 Knots).
Perhaps the more important thing to know is that at any G loading other than +1, this speed doesn't mean much. Look at what are called "v-g diagrams" to see the available G for a given aircraft at a given speed, and understand that when you are below Va (maneuvering speed) which is 160 knots in the Extra300L, a stall is still possible.
When you are turning your stall speed increases greatly. Read about stalls on Wiki and you'll have a better understanding that stall speeds listed for aircraft are only for straight and level flight. Once you bank a plane past 60 degrees you can stall much easier.
Wow...I thought fox sports was just BS-ing about having the times in the cockpit...I had no idea they actually had some sort of interface for messages and times from RBAR race control, much less on some semblance of an MFD with what seems to be an integrated backup AI and HSI...impressive!!
I had a chance to look in on a RBAR cockpit before. It was Bonhomme's aircraft, and if I wasn't so tall, I would probably try to climb in, but I'm sure that Paul and his technician would hate me :)
Whats the typical stall speed of one of these machines anyway? I didn't think airspeed was a massive issue at the kinds of speeds the Red Bull Air Race maniacs fly at.
this stuff is exciting but honestly after flying myself the average flight i found to be quite un-exciting. Without the earth as a close referance point to speed and movement the feeling is simply not there....

Basically + you get when you pull your aircraft upwards, - when you push it downwards. VERY simply speaking.

Red bull pilots pull 10 , 11 G's

You wouldn't just feel it, you would be.
10G is 10 times body weight... Everything is pulled down so the blood is yanked from your brain into your feet.
-10G is 10 times your body weight, in the other direction. Blood is pulled from your feet into your brain which can make your eyes bleed.
