@6S6l6a6v6a You have to listen to the lyrics in context of the album. The woman he loved was just murdered. It's a coping mechanism, telling himself that he doesn't believe in love, never did, didn't need it, had no time for it. He's clearly hurt and saying these things to mask his feelings.

People experiencing such pain and mourning are rarely "logical".

I can see why you would think that, I used to think the same thing. Then I saw QR in 2005 when they played OM in its entirety, then again in '06 when they played both Mindcrimes entirely. They had actors playing the characters in OM. After Suite Sister Mary, Pamela Moore, who played a heavily sedated Mary, receives a call from Dr.X telling her to shoot herself. She does. Nikki arrives to find her dead when the cops arrive and blame Nikki for killing her. Watch MC at the Moore DVD, it shows it.

My comment of 'what happened to music' was concerned the low quality of the music that is released by many bands today (not QS). In too many cases the current music trends seem to favor simplistic rhythmic, melodic and lyrical content that is shallow and trite. Queensryche has never once been guilty of any of this. Corporations see more profit in developing 10 junk bands in the hope that 1 or 2 might connect with an audience than in promoting bands that have something real to offer.
