its about a kid who totally sold out to commercialism ( defining self through acquired products) trying to sound cool by asking if maynard had sold out. Maynard has dug through experiences on an inner level and has shared his soul but kept it too. Hes not just after your money hes trying to give a message from his soul.

@TheSophiaQuestor Yeah, it points out that there really is no such thing as 'selling out'. That in order for them to even be a band and make music for the masses, that they would have to bend to commercialism. Money doesn't drive Tool, but they're not shy in saying that "Yeah of course we make money out of you, you fucking idiot, we 'sold out' as soon as you bought our first album". Then Maynard goes on to mock the consumer in saying "Buy my new record", making this song a type of advert.

I mean, this tells the truth. He's upfront about it, at least. Manson and Treznor are the same; it's all the fuckin' same. Who gives a shit? I like the music; I'm not going to invest my feelings in the hope that whomever I'm listening to HASN'T "sold out to the man." And so we've all sold out in endorsing them selling out. Ppl often think Tool are some new aged savours, in fact they are just fuckin around with you, "all we know about them is what they've sold us", thats it. @AoTruBlu I was quite a big fan of them at one stage. They have some pretty good stuff but they sold out like so many boy bands and teeny bitches except in the guise of, at times, good music. They're suckin satans cock and Tool are pretty much out to depress ppl, making them agressive, angry and pious. Lets be honest, most of it is depressing, dark, references to Satan and destruction. Maynard is a complete. Fuck these guys. Hope you all get through your Tool phase.

Aenima is a complete downer in terms of mood, look at their vids and art work. Thats not to say its bad music, at times genuis. But should selling out be honoured? Can satanism be seen as something admirable? In my view their music toys with your head. Aggression and anger are symptoms of depression - tools music

For a band thats so "think for yourself, question authority", there seems to be so much hidden about them that I cant help wonder about their product and what theyre selling. Even outside the music, their image, videos, website, danny's obsession with Crowley, its material that really sucks one into something very dark and negative.
