Glenn Close wasnt in the nominations for the GLobes that year. She gained a lot of momentum though straight after and was considered favorite for Best Actress for Dangerous Liasons. It was a superb leading performance btu Foster's role got the conscience vote in a film that should have been a TV movie of the week

@hardsam68 Glenn Close was never a favorite for best actress. Even Melanie Griffith had a higher chance than she did. And the Accused may have been a tv movie, but Foster's performance carried the entire film and elevated it above that. That's harder and more challenging than what Close had to do with a juicy character, and juicy lines that she got to pop in and say in a film that John Malkovich carries. Close was great, but I can see why Foster won. It was a braver, challenging performance.

@studio54jojo I think there is still some hatred between the pair. They used to go to yale together didnt they? And sigourney wasn't getting any roles simply because she was too 'tall' (6ft 3 in heels) and meryl was given the good roles in everything!!

I kinda feel sorry for sigourney because she's a brillant actress and she doesn't seem to get the same credit as meryl.

Both "Running On Empty" and Christine Lahti's performance are VERY underrated. She should have gotten an Oscar nod, instead of boring Meryl Streep in the irrelevant "A Cry In The Dark".
