My mom was driving my bro and I to see E.T. back in '82 when I first heard I Ran. It struck me, even as a little kid, how amazing that sound is. They still seem so forward reaching. I really consider them one of the greatest bands. The original lineup, anyway! I wish that Frank, Paul, & Ali would reunite as a three piece or with a new singer! Or with M. Score and write new stuff....

Just to help, when I was in high school, I saw these guys at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. LONG time ago. It was when this Album came out, I think 1982. The FIXX opened up for them and were absolutely great. Their Album was Reach the Beach. At any case, to respond to the description for this video, that noise was also at the Radio City performance. Part of the stage act I guess. Amazing how so many bands of the eighties actually predicted much of what was to come in our century....

Mike does have alot of opinions, but he's still the reason AFOS was an early 80's hit. What about frank? Wasnt he the sound of AFOS too? What about Ali, the backbone to their songs, you can't say Paul was the sound of AFOS if there were other members contributing just as hard, if not harder, than Paul. No negativity torwards Paul, but ALOT of his guitar lines were easy as compared to some bass of the basslines or perhaps drum lines.

hard work? lol. None of the drums were difficult. plus in the studio the drums were programmed via drum machine/sequncer - he did play live but none was hard. Mike damn sure didnt play Keys AT ALL!!! he hit a key here and there and a stab there and here but never a key player. Paul was the predominant sound of AFOS, period. do this test: pick of any AFOS song.now hum it at loud and guess what? 9 out of 10 you will be humming PAUL'S guitar melodies

I still disagree. There are a handful of easy songs on drums, but there are in fact hard songs to play, most of them off of The Story of A Young Heart album. And no I do not always find myself humming pauls melodies, I do find myself humming to Frank's lines too, while clicking my teeth to the drum beats.

MIke was the least talented of the 4 - cant play keys and cant sing, attempted to play guitar to take away from Pauls shine but for sure not a gutar player.

Just saw AFOS in concert at the famous Cape Cod Melody Tent.

They are on the Regeneration Concert Tour along with Naked Eyes, ABC, Belinda Carlisle, and Human League.

You would hardly recognize the lead singer, today! But all groups are still great, after all these years!!

The "Whoop" sound is there on another live performance of this song on Youtube, but not mixed as loud. There is a similar sound on the album version. I think the engineer must have been caught out by it, as it does eventually get mixed down. :)
