i have a custom built pc and i'v had linux for a day and i hate it, cant i just format my pc to it's origional state of having no OS then install windows? if i can can you help please? :-)
i try but i't doesn't work when i put my cd it shows a error so i can't come to this menu..linux sucks would be really nice if anybody would help me to get back to windows :S
Excellent video! Very helpful and concise. My XP/Ubuntu install with the Grub boot loader was giving me a fit. XP worked great, and I had just finished installing ALL my updates, including SP3, and installed all my software on XP, when Ubuntu forgot where it's USB drivers were, and I don't have a PS-2 keyboard or mouse. This saved me a lot of time on the Ubuntu forums trying to find a work around when It's easier to just reinstall Ubuntu from disc.
@denisg123 So you want to crash the car while driving it? If you have a dual boot. Just delete the partition of Ubuntu while in windows7 and then reinstall grub(google it). Grub can load windows as well and with only one entry(windows) it will load it automatically, just like dos. If your using wubi or any other weird thing i dunno. If you borrow a windows 7 cd you can also fix it by using the repair option somewhere in the bloated menu. hope it helps
it means something bad happened in the core of the operating system (linux or bsd or whatever). Usually either a bad driver or a bad kernel module. It could also be borked hardware. I've had it once when my IDE controller was starting to break and it couldn't read half my data anymore.
@DGMRuadeil The only time I had a kernel panic was when I incorrectly compiled a kernel. Neither bad drivers nor bad kernel modules can cause it. I had numerous unsuccessful attempts to install some ATI driver releases and they failed due to error in kernel modue, but that just threw me to command line instead of showing something like BSOD. I was actually able to recover from failure by installing working drivers.
As for hardware failures, in worst case, system just hangs.
I first had installed ubuntu from windows, so I got the menu with the windows bootloader.
Now that I had ubuntu on the grub initial menu, if I select windows, I still have a second menu with ht eold ubuntu + windows, How to eliminate this second menu?
I been wondering how to do this for a long time thanks... also my dog love the song he came to the computer when it was making the squeaky sound. I guess it sound like one of his chew toys 5 stars man! five stars!
