They also bring up, birds naturally have fatty livers, unlike say humans who would become extremely ill due to a fatty liver. So how much of the material can we consider credible when taking into account that speaker is not a vet and represents a bias orginization who will demonize any method of slaughter, no matter how comfortable or uncomfortable animals area.
These pirctures are really horrible, but probably very old. There is a big discussion in France now, and the law changed about animal protection : small individual spaces will be prohibited in 2015 for this kind of animals. But I can tell you that foie-gras is delicious.
there's nothing wrong with farming animals, so song as they are kept in suitable conditions. Humans are omnivores, and we do enjoy meat, there is no denying that. The only thing wrong is that we don't treat the animals we eat properly before they die. It's sad, but it can be changed with farming restrictions.
@heydalilah Yes, there is need. I don't know if you're in on this, but HUMANS EAT. In places like Africa, they can't farm crops everywhere and MUST rely on eating wild game. Sure, we must reform the farming of animals to better suit them with proper care, but why would we give up eating something we eat naturally? The issue here is balance. We can't be carnivores OR herbivores, because that's not what the human digestive track was designed for.
@MockingVenus How so? Are you experienced in that? Does your digestive track is only made for eating meat? My family is fully vegetarian and we are still alive and completely healthy. We don't need doctors because we don't get sick at all. I have a 6 year old son and he has been always vegetarian and haven't suffered any colics or illnesses. Besides, we are not animals. Animals have their range of herbivores and carnivores ad omnivores. They have the right to do so.

@heydalilah Actually, consistently eating vegatables effects the off spring mammals. Overtime one would expect to see the persons off spring, and the off spring of that off spring (down the line) will become not just more docile, but have lower cognitive abilities as well. My source, a science teacher who used to work as a biologist in the field. Meanwhile, meat eaters are notably more aggressive have greater cognitive abilities. So, in terms of maintaining inteligence, yes we do need meat.

@heydalilah Furthermore, if humans ate only vegatables, animals would have to be slaughtered anyways in order to control the population of animals. This is something often done in forested/rural areas because the number of animals will grow due to mating so greatly they will not be able to find food and would eventually starve to death. Instead, we hunt them and eat them as opposed to watching them starve while we eat the carrot the very same animal is trying to eat.
@666NedFlanders The Circle of Life does not include us per se. Animals maintain their healthy balance through nurturing their young and themselves in balance, not satisfying indulging whims. By far, we are supposed to be the intelligent specie and we are far more than what we are. Plant and animals are totally identical in this way, as living, breathing things. Yes... plants do breath.... All plants do... the exchange of gasses is one of the requirements to be a living thing. I live in S/w France and have always eaten foie gras, never again though. I had no idea the birds went through so much pain, I feel so bad but at least now I can do something about it. Birds are vertebrates and have nervous systems with nerve endings that are capable of feeling pain. While birds may not react to pain in the same ways as humans, they still indeed feel it. It is sad to see that humans can be so desensitized to some animal's pain. We need to think beyond ourselves when we make choices about food. Overtime one would expect to see the persons off spring, and the off spring of that off spring (down the line) will become not just more docile, but have lower cognitive abilities as well. My source, a science teacher who used to work as a biologist in the field. Meanwhile, meat eaters are notably more aggressive have greater cognitive abilities. So, in terms of maintaining inteligence, yes we do need meat.

This is something often done in forested/rural areas because the number of animals will grow due to mating so greatly they will not be able to find food and would eventually starve to death. Instead, we hunt them and eat them as opposed to watching them starve while we eat the carrot the very same animal is trying to eat.

If you wanted to eat a duck or goose that hadn't been force fed, or locked in a cage and was killed humanely, I would say go for it

@frenchy66cougslay: What other diseased body parts ripped out of tortured animals do the French find delicious? You guys should contact Stephen King, locate a "pet sematary", and gorge yourselves on "delicious and better then anything" animal corpses. No doubt the chewy maggots in every bite will enhance your gastronomic experience :-)

@frenchy66cougslay: I eat vegetarian food. Agree that many cultures illtreat animals. Taste is not intrinsic to food; taste is just our subjective experience when food makes contact with the tongue, combined with cultural conditioning. It is fine to appreciate "tasty" food; but it is pointless to be so obsessed with taste that we are ready to deliberately subject other life forms to pain and suffering just to experience that short-lived sensation of taste and momentary pleasure.

I refuse to purchase pate foie gras, because of this very reason, that the animals are force fed. We all have the power as consumers to not buy foods that we feel are not ethical.
