I would never live in Detroit. I'm Asian. Black people have made it a dangerous place to live. I received my degree from Umich and was looking forward to living in Detroit and providing for the city, until me and a few friends were held at gunpoint whilst visiting Detroit....I now live in Triangle Area, North Carolina... much more educated and much less blacks, thus much safer..

Scare-dy cat whites destroyed it when they packed up and moved to the suburbs. If a city of that size (land mass) loses half it's population, it's next to impossible to maintain itself. You'll have more money going out for city services than you have coming in from taxes. Suburban junkies come to the city to score drugs. Suburban professionals come to the city to buy sex. There is enough blame to go around. However, it's much more productive to discuss solutions.

What makes you assume I'm uneducated. Your racism and stereotypical point of view displays true ignorance. There are certain elements of life that are associated with poverty. Urban areas are concentrated areas of poverty. You have the very same issues and problems in rural communities, just with less concentration. So, my point is- it's not race, it's economics (fyi- white flight has taken place in almost every major city in America). I'm the first to assign blame where it belongs.

a part of their community for decades, There are also affluent predominantly black neighborhoods in Detroit such as Rosedale Park, Palmer Park, Indian village, Jefferson Chalmers, Boston Edison/Chicago Blvd, Joseph Barry, South tip of the North End- but those images don't make the news. Educated well to do black families with the fathers in the home. Tnose neighborhoods are well kept because the people in the homes are owners-not renters...and not impoverished. It's economics, not race.

With thAt said, every chance I get I'm telling ypoung people from rough neighborhoods they can make it out. I grew up in and out of homeless shelters, group homes, relatives/friends houses. I came up in the system with social workers because my mom is severely mentally ill ( a brilliant mind, however) and my father was non-existent. Lived in some of the roughest neighborhoods in the city, graduated from Detroit Redford- one of the cit'y's roughest schools (now closed). So, I'm always telling

Also, there is a predominantly white neighborhood in Detroit called Delray (aka little Russia) that is a slum if I've ever seen one- utterly ridiculous (google it). it's not Race, It's economics.

I hate that they like to portray all the "affluent" areas to be mostly white when the fact is there are majority black and most of the white people in the city stay in the slums/lower class. Indian Village I believe has the most white people but its still 54% black

Mind you historically for decades in this city, the majority of the people in the projects? Irish. The most notorious gangsters (Whitey Bulger) were Irish too. The most powerful family that had hailed from Mass was Irish as well, you may have heard of them, The Kennedy's. Race doesn't = class.

Fighting aside, The view of Corktown as one center of the newly rising Detroit is encouraging. People investing their lives and energy into the City and there neighborhood cannot help but draw neighborhood residents together and create community.
