Carson was a legend in his field, but nowhere near Newton as an entertainer. I reluctently went to see Newton one night at the Aladin, and I must say, as a musician, I was totally blown away by his talent. Not only did he have an exceptional voice, but he played the guitar, trumpet, sax, piano, banjo, drums and the fiddle, better than many I could name. Then I knew why he was being paid one million dollars a week!!

Anyway, as he tells it it, does not reflect well on Newton given that he was 17 years Carson's junior. Wayne thought the matter had been handled, and he had settled it like a man. Johnny made it a War...or people at NBC. More likely Johnny because of the Vegas Association. Johnny was in Vegas as much as Wayne.

Newton said for a year and a half he tried to contact Carson through every possible means and when that failed he went to Carson's office PERSONALLY and told Carson TO HIS FACE to stop with the jokes or he would kick his ass. Newton is 6'4 well over 250lbs he would have squashed Carson like a bug.

@gfrog2000 FYI I happened to be one of the people Newton passed on his way down to Carson's office as i worked for a courier service at that time and Newton was friendly to EVERY-ONE even the peons unlike Carson who was a arrogant ,Narcissist . This particular day Newton did not stop or greet any-one but looked like he was on a mission to kill some-one , it's to bad he didn't. Arrogant narcissist? Carson was the polar opposite, being very self-conscious and shy, like many comedians. The only people who saw him as arrogant, were the ones who misinterpreted his shyness and need for privacy. It's an extremely common problem, and Carson himself has even pointed it out.

Also, if you're a celebrity of any kind, you're going to have to expect a few jokes at your expense.

In so far as talent goes, Carson was on national TV several times a week for about 35 years. Wayne Newton was/is a freak show in Vegas that only blue-haired old women get excited about. Newton is not in the same area code as Carson.

He owned at one time practically all of Las Vegas and i'll make any kind of bet you want that when Newton dies Vegas will shut it's light's off in honor of his many years of being one of it's most famous stars. While I don't like when celebrities can't take jokes...Wayne knew Johnny personally. If he says Johnny was a mean person than odds are he was and people were fooled by the hollywood image of him. I have heard many people claim Johnny Carson was an asshole so he isn't the first to say this.

I've read a few books on Johnny and if some items were true... he was no great person. He was not a warm guy. He WAS a great tv host. Wayne needs to learn how to take a joke. He tried a year 1/2 to contact him... why? Just let it go.
