We should have choices in a free marketplace, but instead we have a system where we aren't allowed to shop in other states, we can't select a plan that doesn't cover regular doctor visits. I use the NHS because I'm quite healthy but when you call them to schedule an appointment, the phone is always busy, you are treated like a number, and now the government wants to saturate the "better" public health centers by giving 1.700 patients or MORE per doctor. My next door neighbor broke his hand. He has some old hand brace on it. He does not have insurance or the money for hospital bills. He and his wife and daughter live in a one bedroom apartment. He works nights as a cook and his wife works days cleaning houses so that one of them is always with their daughter. His hand is so swollen and I just know that he is in great pain. He cannot work like this and is now afraid of losing his job.

It appears actually that I know more on the economics of this issue than you. Independent, gvt, and WHO research all shows that we would pay LESS in taxes if we had a public option. It would drive medical and pharm cost down as ours is the highest in the world by FAR. We already pay for those on state ins through taxes and medicare. Having this option would cost us considerable less per capita and save us on taxes in the long run. Look up the studies on google to find the research results.

I just want to go to school and earn a physics degree, as that's what I care about. Instead, I just work full time to support her, as there is no insurance that will cover her.

Britain's NHS is nowhere like anything proposed for the US, even by single-payer advocates like me. The NHS EMPLOYS doctors and OWNS hospitals. The closest thing we have in the US is the Kaiser Permanente system, which is non-profit but not public. Kaiser has its problems but they DO work.

The problem with the health insurance companies is the government. We should have choices in a free marketplace, but instead we have a system where we aren't allowed to shop in other states, we can't select a plan that doesn't cover regular doctor visits. More government intrusion will only make health care more expensive and less responsive to the will of the people.

Absolutely sir. Here in Spain we have socialist healthcare and EVERYONE has to pay for it regardless if we use it or not. I use the NHS because I'm quite healthy but when you call them to schedule an appointment, the phone is always busy, you are treated like a number, and now the government wants to saturate the "better" public health centers by giving 1.700 patients or MORE per doctor. That's what socialism always brings: more poverty and illegal immigrants in my country swamp public services

My next door neighbor broke his hand. He has some old hand brace on it. He does not have insurance or the money for hospital bills. He and his wife and daughter live in a one bedroom apartment. He works nights as a cook and his wife works days cleaning houses so that one of them is always with their daughter. His hand is so swollen and I just know that he is in great pain. He cannot work like this and is now afraid of losing his job.

It appears actually that I know more on the economics of this issue than you. Independent, gvt, and WHO research all shows that we would pay LESS in taxes if we had a public option. It would drive medical and pharm cost down as ours is the highest in the world by FAR. We already pay for those on state ins through taxes and medicare. Having this option would cost us considerable less per capita and save us on taxes in the long run. Look up the studies on google to find the research results.

My wife's case of the disease is pretty severe. I was able to speak with a very prominent research doctor at UCSF who focuses on Crohn's, and her opinion was that a change in diet would have minimal impact. Either way, believe me, we tried various attempts for extended periods with little impact.

Britain's NHS is nowhere like anything proposed for the US, even by single-payer advocates like me. The NHS EMPLOYS doctors and OWNS hospitals. The closest thing we have in the US is the Kaiser Permanente system, which is non-profit but not public. Kaiser has its problems but they DO work.

The problem is that that much profits come in from this, we should do more real production instead try to make all the profit from services, if there will be only services and no production this country will go down the drain!! When they impose a federal health care system with the option of using a private company, prices will go up for the private care in order to compensate for the losses made from people leaving their firm to go to the federal one, and therefore causing others to move to the federally run health care system. Economics 101? It's not an option.

except for the fact that obama can't pull $1.6 trillion out of his ass. the only way he will be able to afford iit is if he makes privately owned healthcare. therefore people won't be able to afford their old healthcare and will have no choice but to switch unless they don't want health insurance at all. look at the track records of other countries with this system...they all say the doctors never give a shit and they are treated as numbers and not humans.

And Doctors will get paid less, patients will be put on insane waiting lists for dire emergency surgeries.I've heard a couple horror stories from people in other countries who have socialized health care and trust me, it ain't pretty. Why else do you think people come here to get important surgeries? Because we have one of the best medical care systems in the world.

I agree with you. Hard work should be awarded. President Obama isn't against the working class. In fact, he knows that it is the working class who is getting screwed. In a job market that offers no job security, hard working people have no guarantee of healthcare coverage. that is a valid point and a very important one. however in terms of school, public education it is pretty much free. most everything is paid for through tax dollars. and in terms of college there are scholarships and financial aid. now that doesn't cover the mental anguish brought forth by these tragic situations which could hold someone back. as i said, this is a very important matter that needs to be reconciled, but they can only really be cured by the person itself, not the government

Public education is not equal In areas that can pay higher taxes schools get more and the kids have an advantage That has nothing to do with the individual it has to do with government The individual can't do it alone. People who have a social net don't know what it is like to have no one to turn to. Kids sick there is no grandmas house or aunt. You stay home you get fired. No money to tutor your child for a learning disability and no one knows how to help so your child falls trough the cracks

CHolmes If your parents pay for school or help or if you can live at hm after college you can pay off loans and get ahead. If you have loans and credit cards because you couldn't work enough to pay for your groceries and still do well at school and then your parents don't give a damn about your future it becomes hard to get ahead. We will have to ship in workers educated enough to do the work My husband busts his butt every day doing menial labor that hurts him and gets no health ins,no raise in 6 years his sick days are his vacation.
