@heydude76 - i doubt india's gonna be like this everywhere :D but if you attend a wedding of a close friend, 'mehendi' or 'sangeet' is an event where you will see people sing and dance. normally, only close friends and family are invited.

i hope you have fun in india, it can be very overwhelming for a western person, but it's an amazing country with a brilliant culture.

Yes, but there are more to it. days before wedding,Groom/Bride families go to each other home they put burn/candles on tray and Hena/Mehandi tradionaly put mehindi on groom and bride hand and party begain, Its very common in sub- continetent of India-Pakistan and Bangladesh. Mehndi is so big now more than wedding it self, Families rents wedding halls and spend ten and thousands of dollars.
