  • this is kinda funny...

  • I saw them changing at Tower of London as well. :D

I couldn't stop grinning like a retard; they were just so epic. :']

  • What does the guard read off the notepad?

  • @patrickd7794 He's reading out the Duties for the on-coming Sentry.

*Duties - Do's & Don'ts, what he can and can't do plus other relevant bits of information as in pertaining to his role as Sentry.

  • Dont get me wrong. i have respect. but the cloppy boots and big rifles dont do it for me. dosnt look "official"

  • @babydrumbetch

It's part of their uniform. The have guns because they are GUARDS...

  • @babydrumbetch They are part of the armed forces, hence the rifles.

  • why are there guards all over london

  • This has to be one of the sloppiest changing of the guard that I've seen.

They're not disciplined enough. The Russian Kremlin guards are more disciplined, but these guys have something that the Russian Kremlin soldiers don't have. RESPECT.

And I really like that in a soldier.

  • @alvara120

This is because they're not guarding a cenotaph, an eternal flame or anything as poignant as that.

It's not a long and thought out planned 'ceremony'. It's a simple swap of sentries and has been done this way for the past few hundred years with or without tourists.

Sharpness of drill varies greatly because no one body of soldiers are appointed to permanently guard the Tower of London. It rotates between different regiments, with some being quite distinctly better than others.

  • @emptyangel

Ceremonies like those at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow and the Tomb of the Unknowns in the US, are all relatively new. Because they're new, they've been all carefully and thoughtfully planned with tourists in mind.

The Changing of the Guard in London and Windsor however, have been going on pretty much unchanged and undisturbed for the past 200 years.

  • @alvara120 how do they not have respect....of course they have respect.

  • This has to be one of the sloppiest changing of the guard that I've seen.

  • @alvara120 lets see you do it then. what u have to remember is that these are fighting soldiers not just ceremonial soldiers like the kremlin etc,

  • This is suck, Czech guards are better.

  • Think these are gay see the clippity cloppers changing of the Greek guard.... Then you will see these guys are normal.

  • lol little nut crackers lol

  • I know it's tradition, but silly at the same time!

  • I liked it how one of the guards said pleased. it made me very happy.

  • @Supersace56 He actually said 'can you make way please' just to be more precise!

  • one last thing, 2.36

    off to the pub!! lol

  • Common mistake, this isn't the changing of the guard, this is the changing of the watch. The changing of the guard is much better and happens every 6 months when a new regiment comes to take over. Also I've never see an angry guard or one who has taken action mainly because no one can get close to the crow jews without being spotted by a guard but they do carrie live rounds, not chambered of course.

lol dumb tourist blocking the way, Knife them LOL

  • Many people do not understand that they are not dedicated guards like the tomb of the unknown soldier in Washington. They are acting infantry and also carry loaded assault rifles.

  • They are dedicated guards who stand and march in silence ,there weapons are not loaded because we have no need for them in england as you cant buy a rile at your cash and carry over here ,no disrepect to your lads that guard the tomb as i think they do a hell of a job but the whole guarding and marching thing is copyed from the british who have been doing this way before we even found america .

  • You misunderstand. I mean they do not just do guard duty. They are also regular infantry which to me is very impressive. I know some of the guards have been in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan only weeks before standing guard and guard duty is a small part of regular service. That pissed me off when I was there because idiot tourists (unfortunately some americans) don't realize it when they bother them. I thought weapons were loaded because magazines are inserted, in U.S.,, magazines are out.

  • Ah im sorry mate i read it wrong and i agree .

  • not be a total jack ass but i think the shuffleing is a little sloppy. but i do understand why the do it.

  • Seen much sloppier ceremonial outfits.

  • must be a hard job having the piss taken outta you and you can't do anything...

  • can you make a way please:)))

  • can someone hook me up with one of those hats?

  • ok many be our drill are sloppy in ur eyes but remember this, these guy are not just for show there are also there to fight and defend our country.

  • Please bear in mind that these soldiers are active and fully operational soldiers. Despite the fact that they are traditional guards, they carry modern weapons to show this.

This is a very small part of the guard changes that take place on a daily basis all around London and at Windsor Castle.

  • Comparing the guarding of Sovereign Palaces to guarding solemn monuments like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is incredibly rash.

For the record, I don't see the Americans, Greeks or Russians changing their guards, with an entire military band and a detachment of troops, on a daily and regular basis throughout the year.

So please think before you make such ill-advised and rude comments.

  • Oh and one last thing, I don't think you realise that there are numerous sentry posts in the Tower of London.

The same goes for Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and St. James Palace.

Thus, putting on an elaborate and fanciful show just to swap a several sentries would be highly impractical.

  • well they arent gonna carry muskets these are serious guards people dont realise that those mofas are lock loaded and ready to go if someone runs in that place with a gun.

  • The British Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is in Westminster Abbey, so for obvious reasons, isn't guarded by soldier.

If you want to see a British ceremony revering the war dead than I suggest the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the London Cenotaph.

  • Go smash some plates.

  • So would we rather have our men, who guard the Queen and her real jewels with a bolt action rifle that could be shot 5 times in about 5 minutes or have them guard her with a semi automatic rifle of which they are trained to use fully in combat situations.... You decide ;)

  • *cough* *cough* shitty bolt action rifle, you m8 are talking about the greatest bolt action rifle ever made, the Lee enfield, 15 aimed shots in one minuet, they could wipe out anyone with in 600 yards of them.

  • @doc1236

The weapon to which you are referring to is known as a musket and not a bolt action rifle.

Also, the guards no longer carry semi-automatic rifles. The weapon they are currently using is the SA80 and is a fully automatic weapon.

With the previous weapons they used to carry, the L1A1, being semi-automatic.

  • @emptyangel No, you will find that the SA80 has a trigger mechanism with a fire-control selector that enables semi-automatic fire and fully automatic fire, thus positioning it in the semi-automatic section of the modern day weaponry.

  • @doc1236

Having selective fire does not class the weapon as a semi-automatic weapon. It is either classed as a fully automatic, or more formally, a selective fire weapon.

A semi-automatic weapon is a weapon that is completely incapable of continued fire when the trigger is held.

  • This is just a small part of the changing of the Guard, this is just one sentry post. If you want to see more about the whole thing, search for Guard Mounting.

  • why did the guy at approx. :33, turn right, stomp his foot, and then walk LEFT to the booth?

  • in this occasion he was turning right to break out of the rank. if u notice when he comes back without the clipboard he stamps back in.

  • Atleast they dont slide their feet, that's fucking sloppy

  • Compared to The United States Military, they are completely Sloppy!

  • do 1

  • Also is it just me or did the first guard at approx. 21 second screw up.....??

  • No. thats called 'dressing'. Normally they would be ordered to do that, but in this case they do it automatically. They turn their head 90 degrees right, and shuffle to the correct position.

  • I agree with nelsonat this sucks compared to the changing of the guard at the Kremlin

  • Wow, this is totally lame compared to the Changing of the Guard of the Unknown Solider in Russia at the Kremlin.

  • @nelsonat

No doubt that this pales in comparison for a number of reasons:

    1. This nowhere near a solemn occasion as the one at the Eternal Flame.

    2. The Eternal Flame is guarded by a dedicated honour guard, the soldiers you see here are regular servicemen.

    3. The regiments who form the Queen's Guard regularly change between the five regiments of Foot Guards and even regiments outside of the Foot Guards. Therefore, the UK do not maintain a dedicated body of soldiers to guard such places.

  • those tourists standing in front of them are fucking dumb!

  • theyre nothing against the russian guards...

  • Do upload if you have it. :D

  • heard them shouted before, was in their way once, maybe in another clip.

  • Don't they have the option to just shout, "MAKE WAY FOR THE QUEEN'S GUARD!"?
