  • These guys don't actually care. They're just trying to sell you something. Like has been said below, these are the same guys who make all those "lovely" Axe commercials.

  • ah.....thats unfortunate. my mom always said to me about being proud as i am, and now im an adult i found out the way i look really is important. its better being a sheeple than finding out my total disregard to make up and fashion will be an obstacle i have to learn from scratch now.

  • Hey morons, guess what?

Dove is a subsidiary company of Unilever. The company that produces and advertises Axe. You know, the body spray, with the wonderful ads?

  • I think every parent of a daughter should see this spot

  • I don't know what's more hilarious. The hypocrisy of this commercial, or the insecure idiots eating it up like candy.

The company that owns Dove also owns Axe, who probably used that video of scantily-clad women shaking their asses in one of their ads.

I'm not saying that feeling good about yourself for who you are is a bad thing, but this is just an example of The Man Sticking It to The Man.

  • I really like this commercial along with the "why are you trying to be someone else" commercial. I truly believe these commercials help us understand how important it is for us to support our youth girls.

  • They showed this in my health class (Mrs.Kurrus) very moving..

  • I like the song.

  • ehi what's the name of the song?? thanks :D

  • @toescaern Music: Simian, La Breeze, EMI Canada

  • right on maaan

the irony of this coming from the most evliiist beauty corporation out there

    fake and gay

  • yeah, talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does as recommended by the beauty industry! wtf!!!!

  • This company needs to be boycotted. It's bad enough so many companies exploit and degrade women for profit; Dove/ UNILEVER (the maker's of AXE) are exploiting women as they denounce it, and using CHILDREN for the campaign. BOYCOTT UNILEVER!!! If you agree with their Campaign for Beauty ads and Onslaught commercials, then DON'T BUY THEIR PRODUCTS. (Unilever, Axe, Dove)

  • Dove is ruining the rainforest

  • I really wish they would broadcast this commercial on actual TV (if they already have, I haven't seen it) :( This is a serious issue and it would be great to get this message out there and raise awareness!

  • WHY is this video rated 18???

  • I like this comercial

    -The music

    -The naturally pretty girl

    -The concep

-The motion (slow, fast then slow again)

    -The message

fucking crazy so good 5 of 5 !!

  • This commercial is number 1, i love this.

  • We watched this clip in marketing class .. and then they showed us Greenpeace's response to this. It really got to you ..

  • me too!! :)

  • Wow, I followed your suggestion and it's really great!

  • Ah, the same company that makes Axe.

  • This clip is FUCKING CRAZY!!!..........GOOD WORK!!

  • haha we just watched this in health class toodaay ;]

  • its admirable the work dove have been making to promove natural beauty. congrats

  • yea but it's not like they haven't done it either....so I'm not sure....

  • Here's a true story:

My bro says: This commercial is disturbing. He also says that girls that are naturally pretty, which is pretty much all girls ( and i swear he says this) put on chemicals like makeup and botox and it makes them look ugly. Now he's off to make pizza." xD

me: and I'll go enjoy it with him! :D (true story)

moral: stop worrying about your image and enjoy some pizza with people you like, just not too much or it'll make you unhealthy :) (true story)

  • Also, any guy who thinks boys have it just as bad as girls with this situation is totally in denial. Boys do have this a little bit with being fit, but it just about ends there. Girls see so much more of this advertising every day, pressure to be thin, curvy, perfect hair, etc.

  • Powerful commercial.

I wish every guy in my school could see this and understand.

  • everyone please watch "Dove Onslaught(er)" it will open your eyes alot more trust me

  • wow thats deep

  • the scariest part for me was the woman on the scale rapidly gaining and losing weight-and the shots of the toilet.

disturbing and powerful, but they're still hypocrites.

  • i like this advertisement. it's visually and technically appealing to me. i don't understand why people are getting so worked up over the hypocrisy of business. this is SMALL time. if you're going to work yourself up over something like this, at least do some research and find something REALLY terrible to get worked up over, you know? this is small, small fries.

  • Yes, Dove and Lynx/Axe are the same company. Unilever! Take a look at all your cosmetics, I think you might have a tough time trying to find something that isn't. Then look even deeper and see what group of companies own Unilever. Its the same company as Nestle and Coca Cola Co., Cadbury's, Mars, Schweppes, Snapple. So this company promotes 'healthy skin' plus the products to fuck your skin and health up. Create the problem in 1 hand, solve it in the other = Fat Bank Account! Applause!

  • Well put.

  • True. Very ironic. Another way to establish its image as a positive company aiming for healthy products when they sell other things under a different name.

  • Wow, you must be a 40 year old virgin.

  • omg!

  • Comment removed

  • you're ugly too

  • i love dove. they do (from what i can tell) more campaigning towards the normal, everyday type people than anyone else. i see other ads and know i'll never look like that but with theirs, i'm reminded that being the best me is good enough.

  • Well made agitprop--or should I say a commercial disguised as agitprop. I wonder if what this commercial is really playing on is people's fears of their daughters becoming sexually mature. Deep down a lot of people wish their daughter would stay a fresh-faced innocent forever.

  • I do wish that people would stay innocent forever. Sex is only dirty when we make it so. It isn't inherently that way. Wanting people to not idealize and fetishize everything is a health wish. Your assumption that becoming sexually mature is the opposite of innocent is exactly the problem. Sexual maturity is not becoming infatuated with our sex obsessed and pornographic culture. And besides that the girl is child, not a person on the brink of sexual maturity.

  • I like this commersial but still, what hypocrites....

  • dude i'm talking about Demi Lovato..

    lol.

  • The funny thing is that Dove and AXE bodyspray are owned by the same company.

  • Oh my god, is that not one of the most contradicted things ever?! God dammit, this world's fucked over.

  • Learned that in Media Studys. That class is f'ing awesome. We were also told that Al Qaeda doesn't exist and that Wal-Mart is more powerful than finland.

Later that day one annoying ginger kept complaining about Native American Reperations. He really pissed everyone off.

  • Lmao, Walmart is more powerful than Finland xD

  • Does anyone know the song/music used in this?

  • Simian - La Breeze

  • I remember when I was young, the Jackie magazine was full of, not just the latest pop groups but all the latest fashions too, fron Mary Quant to Beeba and Bus Stop. I'm not saying it was just as bad as today, just that then, if you didn't look right you were excluded.

  • Wow. My little sister lives in LA. This makes me angry.

  • demi twittered and she was talking about this commercial. thats why she brought us here. lol :)

    I LOVE DOVE commericals !

  • i have so much self esteem i dont need dove! ha hows that?

  • whay is everyone saying that demi brought them here?? x) just wondering

  • I was a makeup artist for yrs. I will teach my daughter the truth!! I know all the hipe. And the crap the companies feed people. Hopefully she wont grow up to fast. Let kids be kids. We as consumers..are sick of it.

  • Demi brought me here also.

  • Demi Lovato, twitted about this Sep, 6. Now, I know why she did. There a couple of disrespectful, girls on twitter say mean things about Demi and her sister Madison.

Us girls have more than enough pressure to in this world to be "perfect", there is no such thing as perfection.

I always just try to tell myself and other girls, never try to be what they want you to be, be who you are.

As long as your are healthy, your are perfect.

I am getting fed up with all the Demi haters.

    xoxo to All.

  • i undrstand your point but it's NEVER going to go away. NEVER. even i face that stuff honestly. this is a hard subject to deal with

  • I get you. For real. Believe me, I have gone through it too. But listen, if we don't try to ignore it, just a little bit, it gonna keep going and going thru all the next generations. More and more cases of eating disorders are gonna be confirmed.

We need to raise are children in healthy environments, so that there will be less obesity in this world. And we won't have to go thru all this discrimination. Oh, & not just because of what "they" say, but so we can too, feel good about our selves. 8)

  • i compeltely agree but it's going to be a hard skin to grow out of

  • Never say Never. It's definitely not impossible. We need to do this for ourselves and to make a better future for our children. There is alot we can do to fix this. 1st, we need to love our selves and believe in ourselves. 2nd,we have to raise our children to respect everyone no matter how they look, cuz everyone is different.

3rd, okay there alot of people that are over weight but we just have to get healthy, excessive, eat healthy, but do it for yourself not to make anyone else happy.

  • Continue, from last comment: Starving yourselves is not gonna make you perfect, it just makes you sick, eating disorder turn into addiction. Once, you start its hard to stop. It hard to talk about but I have to. When it gets to bad, the malnutrition make your hair fall out, your teeth decay, and you turn into skin and bones. NOW!!! you tell me is that gonna make you BEAUTIFUL. NO!!! Is that gonna make you PERFECT. NO!!!

Being HEALTHY and loving YOURSELF, that is PERFECTION.

    GOD BLESS. 8 )

  • Feel free to pass my message along. Actually Please do.

  • Sorry on the on Never say Never comment I ment to put exercise not excessive. ( I used spell check and it gave me the wrong word) Ooops. Sorry again. God Bless.

  • wish i could think that about myself.....

  • No, never say I wish I could, just say I know I can. I know it may sound cliche, but its the truth if don't believe in yourself and love yourself nobody is gonna do it for you.

I don't know who you are or what you look like but I know that your are beautiful person inside and out.

You know how I know, god made all of us. He made us perfect. People in this world is making this fact, a mess. They make look "perfect" on the outside, but on the inside they are horrible people.

  • continued from my last comment: No, I am not the most religious person in the world, but I do believe in what I just said.

Perfection is not about how your look like on the outside. Is being a wonderful person on the inside, loving yourself, respecting others. Last and most importantly is being HEALTHY.

No matter, if your heavy, skinny, tall, short, everyone has to eat healthy and exercise.

"I not in perfect shape at all, but I am trying to get healthy for myself." Not for anyone else. 8 )

  • demi brought me here too!!

  • Demi brought me here toooo. hahahaha.

  • demi brought me here too ......

  • Demi brought me here too =P

is this the commercial she was talking about?

  • demi talked about this on twitter... it's so true... D:

  • yeah. made me look for this one.

  • this kinda scared me. but not in a bad way, just on how it's true. O.o

and yeah, Demi Lovato's tweet brought me here too. haha

  • Dove and Axe are under the same company.

So imagine that little girl in an Axe commercial.

  • Demi Lovoto Brought Me Here. (:

  • demi lovato brought me here

  • This almost brought tears to my eyes.

  • I think it's a powerful commercial, but what needs to happen is a top-down look at the ways in which untrue statements are conveyed in commercials; rather than getting fired up about teh use of attractive models.

  • Comment removed

  • the red headed girl is my sisters good friend

  • this made me cry thinking about my daughter who isnt even born yet

  • Uh... that might have been the hormones...

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS SONG IS CALLED AND WHO ITS BY ?

    haha.

    :)

  • simian, the band is awesome

  • thanks lol

  • You know what, i'm tired of this stupid ass debate between heterosexuals, gays and shit on whether this video is meaningful or not, Just watch the fucking video and move on god damnit!!! This is exactly what makes youtube soo stupid.

  • i just love how they used one of the most beautiful young girls

  • the point is that the little girl has natural beauty. the other women who were shown in this commercial were doing things to their body to fit a standard, and this commercial proves that real beauty isnt based on appearances...

  • so it's weird to say beauty is skin deep. i think beauty is what you make of it (just not resorting to plastic surgery and other methods of false beautifacation), but nothing adds to beauty quite like a good heart.

  • i absolutely love this video.

the cycle of women and young girls hating their bodies has to stop.

  • what about males?

  • and they're not excluded either,

it applies to all human beings.

we should all love who we are.

    i'm sorry, i'm a girl,

so i was looking at it from a womanly perspective.

  • Well im gay so i see it from both points of view :)

But seriously i understand, yes everyone should love themselves, but they, like myself sometimes, forget that and look to beauty adverts etc for help.

Tbh, ive seen very pretty girls and guys, who look like theyd star on a beauty commercial, so people saying how beauty creates false images, isnt true. Unless false images are living breathing people :l

  • ohh okk, i'm a heterosexual girl so i unfortunately have a hard time seeing it from a male's perspective.

oh, i absolutely agree with you, i believe that's simply human nature to look for outside methods to feel beautiful.

and yes, that's very true too. i've met absolutely gorgeous guys and girls, who are completely mean and horrible, but i've also met some not-as-magazine-cover-looking people who are mean, too,

  • Lol, tbf, i dnt think, sexuality plays a huge part, i said it because it makes sense for a gay guy to see both POV yknow :P

But at the same time, its the person who has to see the truth..

ANYWAY Yeah i agree with you, and i do admit the prettier a person is, the more stuck up and obnoxious they are, Im not saying nice and kind people dont exist who look like magazine covers, but theyre hard to find.

I just wish people would stop criticizing the beauty industry and get on with their lifves

  • awh lmao me either, i see.

yeah, you're right. i mean, you can't sit there and totally rebel the beauty industry and think just you yourself will bring it down. people still use plastic surgery and people still want to do things to their bodies that maybe aren't natural.

  • And since when did youtube start blocking cuss words??

  • you do realise that conversation ended about a week ago.

Yeah, youtube is stupid because people like you bring back up arguments :l

  • and? I just said im tired of it.

  • so why bring it back up? Lol

  • I didnt know.

  • In my opinion I think males could care less about this stuff

  • In my opinion I think males get it just as bad as females.

As a male I find it difficult to get the 'perfect' body same as women.

  • thats coz its near enough impossible..not doing exercise for a week my body shape alters :(..its hard to keep a fit body.

But yeah i agree theres loads of mediated body images 4 men and women..but in all honest women get it worse..all the ads i see on TV seem to be for Loreal make-up or hair dye lol..its all about beauty.. :/

  • true.

  • I feel ya, but...

It's not even CLOSE to what women are put through. I'm sorry... but it's true.

It's just not even close, man.

  • yeah thats true....

but fuck, girls have it a whole lot worse.

  • But.........

I think focus should be on men too...

    My brother is anorexic.

Guys need support as well, I believe they are way more distorted than us.

  • This is beautiful.

  • my video response is the song

  • to the ones who think this vid is hypocritical, all dove are trying to say is don't let your daughter get brainwashed into thinking if she isn't skinny and statuesque she isn't beauitful...yes dove sell beauty products, but their products state pro age/pro curvy girls, they're one of the only beauty companies that use older women in their adds, they don't care if they have grey hair/theyre not the 'right size', to them every woman is beautiful and theyre trying to show that so i give them credit

  • Exactly,

to sell their products over the rest.

    LOL

Youre so silly, you actually think Dove care?

    Watch Dove Slaughter video by Greenpeace yeah :}

  • Whether they care or not, at least videos like these can make other people care.

  • Yeah but its giving false impressions that dove cares

its giving false impressions the rest of the beauty industry dont care

if they didnt they wouldnt want you to have younger looking skin, nice rouge red lips with the latest gloss.

dove is jst like the rest. about money

so unless people care about looking after their children theyll realise dove doesnt.

  • So? I still think the commercial is very meaningful, whether they care or not. :|

  • i understand its meaningful, just not when its been done by Dove who plays a large part in making women feel happier about themselves, which is the same as the other companies.

  • It is meaningful to me, whether you find self-esteem meaningful or not.

I never claimed to support Dove, but I do really love this commercial. Thanks.

  • give them credit for an excellent marketing ploy

  • this is a great ad

    0:39- 0:42 then 0:45 is really effective

  • woah really liked the message behind this video x

  • I love the point of this video! It is SO true! Also does any know the song name?

  • Simian - la breeze

  • This method Dove is using is extremely effective. Secretly girls are always wanting messages like this in the media. But if people stopped buying Dove products /because/ of that message would Dove continue advertising that way? Maybe not; they do want to sell their beauty products after all. But I bet lots of people would buy from them just so they would keep this method... It's like a Catch 22 or something!

  • your right but as long as it is positive then it is cool. But their soaps and body washes are actually good

  • you know why girls want to feel pretty? Because they want to believe they can attract... a male hunk with a perfect body and perfect beauty.

  • Not just attracting guys, but competing with other women, being "young", even being socially acceptable. It's ridiculous! And young girls don't care about hunks but they get sucked in too. Perfect males don't come about that easily anyway, tch..

  • Better then lots of other crapcommercials that doesn't make any sense

  • Even if you think there's hypocricy in the Dove campain or if you think, the point is that Dove has taken the FIRST STEP in what will hopefully be a change in how companies advertise. If Dove makes a ton of money because people (like me) will buy Dove strictly because they like the direction they're going in the advertising, then maybe other companies will follow. I don't care if they campaign like this simply to make money. I now buy Dove simply because I love this commercial.

  • Amen!

  • Kids in Africa aren't fat because they don't ever get to start eating again.

When you stop eating, your body freaks out and starts hoarding all the food you do get- hoarding it as fat.

  • I love this song.!

  • regardless if the people who make axe commercials make dove commercials too, the message remains the same.

to add to the starving children in africa comment i read above - they look fat because their stomachs bloat due to the gases collecting in their abdomens. this is because their insides are eating them LITERALLY inside out. this is how they die.

  • i reely do like this commercial, theres a very good mesage this commercial is showing, and so girls should have confidence in them shelves. Im reely happy 4 this commercial :) ( plus the music is awesome 2 :P)

  • I think what my teacher meant your so use to eating 3 or 4 meals a day. So if you suddenly stop eating your body is like "Where's the food?!" And somehow your body makes you fatter like that...I think. Something like that. x.x
