i'd like to say that actually this song, and the whole deed of fingolfin, helps me whenever i have to be brave...i think about fingolfin who challenged evil in front of his gates,or about this song ..and that gives me a lot of strenght:)
@dimetonn oh when i need to be brave i think of you goku when we were fighting frieza and we had no chance of winning and you walked up to frieaza and werent afraid,
@mborgonove Well, technically Saruman existed in the First Age (as every Ainu) but he was known as Curùnir and was aligned with the Valar (he was a servant of Aulë).
That chanting between 1:52 and 2:02 is supremely epic. This may be the end all be all of Blind Guardians for me, when cosmic forces prepare to go to war.
"thus died Fingolfin, high king of the noldor, most proud and valiant of the Elven-kings of old. The orcs made no boast of that duel at the gate; neither do the Elves sing of it" what Tolkien failed mention was because they knew only blind guardian could.
Can I just say that Melkor was a Valar as he was a greater Ainur who descended to Arda and borther of Manwe Sulimo. We are told in the Valaquenta that he is "...counted no longer among the Valar...". which tells us that he was once counted amongst the Valar. He was also once one of the Aratar but is again no longer counted amongst them.
having actually READ the silmarillion, i can tell you safely that the Balrogs were "Maia twisted and corrupted into denizens of flame and darkness by Melkor and promises of power"
Satan: God's greatest angel, who demanded to be treated as equal to God and have powers of creation.
Melkor: Eru's greatest angel/child god who demanded to have access to Eru's flame of creation and conduct music of creation like Eru
Both were cast down and both took holy spirits with them.
@thebludoc thank god tolkies took the bible and made a better fairy tale.In fact it would be far more convincing than any other religion!!!!Spit on everybody's faith hail TOLKIEN FFS.HAIL BG!!!!!!!
Gotta remember all Melkor is basically the Middle earth version of Satan, The greatest of the Ainur who rebelled against Ilúvatar. Now it's couched in much more impressive and poetic language in the Silmarillion but that is what it is. Sauron was a lesser Ainur, called the Maiar. Gandalf, Saruman, Ungoliant and the Balrog (plural) are more examples of these lesser "angels."
And to call Melkor a Valar is hardly fitting as the Valar were put on middle-earth to protect it from his darkness.
@tortirion The Balrog wasn't a Maiar, he was just one of the infantry soldiers of Morgoth, who had entire legions only made with Balrogs. The Balrog who fight with Gandalf was the last. And Ungoliant, I don't remember very well, but I think it was a Morgoth's creature, not a Maiar.
And I think compare Melkor with Satan it's incorrect. I think he fits more with gods like the egyptian god Set, or the nordic Loki.
@Powerkill1 Um... Captain you need to run back to your fail boat, Balrogs were Maiar who were twisted and corrupted by Melkor. Ungoliant was "An evil Spirit in Spider Form" Tolkien never gave a real answer to where she came from but from what I have read the most likely is that she is an Ainur. You need to go Reread the Silmarillion then go read some of the other books written about ancient middle earth.
@tortirion Oh, true. Thanks for explain me this ^^, I read the book long time ago and it seems I don't remember it very well. I'm gonna reread the books today, sorry for my ignorance :$ I read other books about ancient middle earth, but also long time ago. I think I should read them again.
@tortirion "And to call Melkor a Valar is hardly fitting as the Valar were put on middle-earth to protect it from his darkness." *blinks* Now where does this come from? Melkor made his own music, unlike the rest of the Ainur, who all created their music to harmony, Melkor made his own 'noise.' Then some of them descended to Arda and were henceforth called the Valar. What the Valar created, Melkor sought to destroy. Not the other way around.
@jouzinka I use the term "Valar" to describe the Ainur who descended to Arda to shape it, there is an argument to call Melkor a Valar if you go by this definition. I agree with you that Melkor made something and while not the "Harmony" of the others I wouldn't call it noise, as it was described as beautiful in it's own way.
@tortirion Point. On another note, he was made of the same dough as the other Valar, even if gone wrong and in Ilúvatar's eyes (and in the eyes of the other Valar) he was a brother to Manwë, no less and equal to him in power, if not superior. And I didn't mean to call his music a noise proper, that's why I put the commas around. I did it rather to emphasize a little the disharmony of his music as I understood it. =;)
In native strength, Melkor (Morgoth) was more powerful than Sauron. But Morgoth poured his own power into his 'creations' - basically, bending Middle Earth to his will. That took a lot out of him! Eventually, he was unable to change shape any more, etc. So, towards the end, Sauron was stronger. That's just what Sauron did with the Ring - put his own strength in an external object to gain more control. Tolkien said that all of Middle Earth was Morgoth's Ring, though.
I just seen a robot unicorn commercial the other day with Blind Guardian singing and it totally reminded me of high school! That's when I really listened to them all the time! I love them, I think they are true masters of music! I wish they had more recognition!
this is Luthien dancing to hypnotize Melkor himself so that Beren can steal his crown right from his head. The wolf is Huor, he helped Luthien reach the dark lords chamber.
It's Luthien dancing and casting sleep spell on Dark Lord and his minions. That wolf on the right probably is Beren her lover. You can also see Silmarils in the Dark Lords crown.
This is Luthien dancing in order to hypnotize Melkor himself so that Beren can steal his crown. The wolfs name is Huor. He helped Luthien get into the Dark Lords chamber to save her lover and get back the Silmarils. The shield bearing figure behind Melkor is probably Beren. You have to read the Silmarilion in order to grasp how goddamn beautiful and mesmerizing Luthien is. Scratch that, you just have to read the Silmarilion period.
perhaps not a movie, but a series, that way they have way more time to work with, it's saddening how much was left out of the lord of the rings movies
@StayUgly Toe to toe with Sauron, Middle-Earth's chances kinda suck. Melkor is far superior to Sauron, but against Melkor we have the Valar fighting on our side too. So I'd say the odds for the good guys are better in Silmarillion than they were in Lord of the Rings.
@whateverisvalid actually, I heard that with the one ring Sauron is equal to Melkor or possibly even more powerful. Also, in First age (when the Silmarillion takes place, as opposed to Third age of LOTR) the Sindar & Noldor still lived in Middle-earth and posed more of a threat than Gondor & Rohan did in Lotr.
@Tegssvideoswin I'm not sure, i just vaguely remember reading somewhere that Morgoth was more powerful than Sauron without the ring, which is pretty obvious, but after Sauron forged the one ring he was more powerful than his master. am not totally sure.
@Unremarkable1000 The ring does not increase Sauron's power... as it's made of his own essence. It only can grant power to one already lesser than him. For him, the true master of it, it binds all other rings to him that he had part in making. Melkor was the mightiest being in all of Arda, though he be less wise and noble as Manwe.
@FelixFelinis if it doesn't increase his power then why was he unable to overcome his enemies without it? yes it provides power of the lesser rings but the one ring is a prerequisite to tha control, i was just making it easier to understand.
And, like i said, i wasn't totally sure about Sauron being more powerful than Melkor after the forging of the one ring, i just vaguely remembered someone stating that he was. think it was from tolkeingateway or some place like that.
@Unremarkable1000 because he put a lot of HIS essence into it. WIthout he is missing a huge piece of his own power, and he is a weakened form of the true Suaron.
yeah, the songs of this album are epic!! But I like the live versions even better (better quality). I think "Imaginations through the looking glass" is the best DVD Ive ever bought (just cause it was the best concert ever!!)
