Actually, MacDonald wrote it but in this particular rendition it is sung by Dennis Collins. How do I know that? Bcuz he is my cousin-in-law :-) Ralph's name is there giving him credit as the writer but even if you look in the info section you will see that Dennis is listed as the vocals, indicated by the (vo) next to his name. He rerecorded it for his new album called Island Life. Its on itunes. You can check out the album there and you will hear that its the same voice.

I hear ya. think there's often confusion caused by the assumption that whoever is singing MUST be the artist who's releasing the tune...uuhhh NO. There are enough exceptions to that rule, particularly in the jazz world, to make that a weak rule. Seems here that it's Ralph who released the tune, with lead vocals by Collins.

Songwriters always, by default, sing the song first if they can sing; Ralph McDonald is a co-writer of this tune...however so is Bill Withers and it's Bill singing lead on the 7+ minute masterpiece chart-topper from 1981 from the Grammy-winning jazz LP, Winelight, by Grover Washington Jr, who himself is the 3rd songwriter involved.
