The book was outstanding. Superman isn't one of my favorite characters. The writer put a human feel to superman which greatly took away from what annoying me about him; his over sense of nobility.
@jmartecep Well, I love All-star Superman (and Superman in general), but I dont see how he took away his nobility. Superman in All-Star (to me) just seems exactly, how Superman is, when he is well written.
This is my favorite Superman story, surprisingly (to me) surpassing "Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow?" Which holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
And you struggle greatly to stay on topic. It wastes alot of time and not many people like watching 8 minute videos. But you did a good job on the review itself.
This and volume 2 are my favorite Superman books, honestly the only Superman books I've ever liked. I was just thinking this (vol. 1&2) is what they should do for the rebooting of Superman at the movies
Yeah I agree with you on Morrison, Batman is my favorite superhero but I really dont think he has a respectful take on the character but I loved All Star Superman.
Meh, it seems like he is just putting in things taht he considers cool and putting them in a Batman story whether or not they fit the character such as having the devil(whats this guys obsession with satan? is he a satan worshipper?), and he writes quite possibly the worst Joker EVER
Oh I don't think so at all. I think when his run is finished it will be one of teh greatest runs in comics history.
I think his Joker is extremley unique. I love how he brought a new perspective to teh Joker instead of just retreading the same old thing like Hush and Cacophony
His Joker certainly is fresh because its a Morrison character instead of being the Joker. He basically just took the most overused serial killer cliches including even sweeny todd and tried to justify this by his "super sanity" BS
But hey, everyone will agree that his work on Batman is definitely polarizing, you either hate it or love it but not much in between, its clear where we both stand.
But some one else brought up the super sanity thing before him he just takes it off.
That's true. It's deffinitly love it or hate it. What I've found the most intresting is that people who ether didn't like Grant or were indiffrent to him are more the ones that have liked his Batman stuff where the people that are huge Grant fans haven't liked it.
Actually it was Morrison who created the super sanity theory in Arkham Asylum.
Interesting observation, I loved Morrisons run on JLA but I never liked Arkham Asylum so I went into All star Superman not knowing where I would fall and admittedly I wasnt impressed with the first issues but I stuck with it and it really paid off so later when he did Batman I figured its been many years since Arkham and I love his Superman so maybe I'll enjoy his Batman but obviously I didnt feel that way later
No someone else did it before him I jut can't remember who.
Honestly I didn't like Arkham Asylum but alot of that was the art which i found painful. I liked his JLA stuff din't love it. I enjoyed his X-men stuff (i think the enjoyment was hightened by it being the only realy x-men run i liked) and I hated doom patrol. So I was kinda half and half. But I've loved All Star Superman and his Batman stuff.
@blowshimselfupdude they're going to make an animated adaptation of All-Star Superman for the DC Animated straight-to-DVD films, and its gonna be written by Dwayne McDuffie(one of the main writers of JLU)
i wish there was a all-star nightwing which just had classic stories of nightwing and talked about his relationship with batman and robin (Tim and/or Jason)
started reading just recently probably the best comic i read in 5 years, love how it takes everything great about the character and combines it into perfect story
read "the Filth" and "Animal Man". these are by far the best comicbookworks grant morrison ever did.
and i agree with you on every point. i would love it so much if brian singer let grant morrison right the script for his superman-movies. i really don't like superman, but all-star superman really turned out to become one of my absolutely favortie ongoing comicbookseries' of all time.
but be warned, i consider myself being a grant morrison fanboy.
I have this one it is one of the best I have read in a long line of superman books/comics i wish the would make more did it get discontinued or are they still making them?
When I snet him the request, I said something like "I don't get what people like about this" or something. I honestly meant it that time, I didn't think it was flat out bad, i just didn't get anything out of it. But then about a week ago I read it through again and I really liked it. Except for the Jimmy Oslen story, though (was that issue #2?) and I hated the story titles which looked like WordArt. Thanks for making the review though!
Well, you have convinced me to buy this :)
