Jackson is an amazing musician and wonderful human being. He is so underrated- he deserves to be more famous than many modern groups who hardly make "music"
Great song by a true genius but I think I prefer the John Cash/Joe Strummer version. More soul maybe or maybe it's that they are two great voices from the grave.
@ShadySidebury yes! tis was 2004, so inductees were George Harrison (as a solo musician), Jackson Browne, "Prince", The Dells, ZZ Top, and Traffic. JB played "Running On Empty with his band, and Bruce SPringsteen gave the induction Speech. Yoko and Sean Lennon,Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Jackson's eldest son Ethan Zane Browne were among those in the crowd
We all battle some form of enslavement, whether it be substances, relationships, or our own mental slavery. "None but ourselves can free our minds," I think Jackson picked a beautiful song, and he sings it with conviction. It is the lyrics and the love that matters.
i love jackson browne because my dad and i would listen to it when i was younger.since then i love him and is influential music. its nice to see this video because i am also a fan of bob marley and this song is great.
Beautiful. He absolutely deserves to be in. One of the greatest writers of our time. People don't realize how many songs of his other people have covered. Great song to sing, also. He is a fighter for human rights, and this is a perfect song for it
Pay taxes much? Got a drivers license? A hunting license? Do you find it easy to get real answers to the questions you have in life? Are you in control of your own life?Maybe you should research slavery a little more before you speak... because this attitude is offensive to people who are still fighting the good fight... fighting for you!!!
Jackson Browne is a fierce supporter of human rights all across the globe. The color of his skin doesn't matter.
This isn't the first song of this nature he has covered. Check out "My personal revenge" sung by Jackson Browne if you can find it. (For the first example that comes to mind)
I was at this concert when it was sung by Jackson Browne and he had the crowd just wrapped up in this song. He did an awesome job with it. Great tribute to Bob Marley.
I think it was a great gesture of Jackson Browne to dedicate his admission into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to the great musician Bob Marley who wrote this song and not to sing one of his own wonderful songs. It is no good idea to compare this performance with versions of some other artists like Tanita Tikaram and others who covered this song.

why did he write this silly lyric that black dude from jamaica, with the funny little home made nitted mitten head clothing? I like this version, but why was the song written?
Dear Lady "K", hihi, thank you for sending this one. I enjoy it Maria! Double joy, because you posted the song of Jackson, and Karima took care that I would watch it!
he has so deserved being inducted and i say its abot time!

Wasn't JB also inducted on the night of George Harrison's induction? It's a beautiful version of the song.

Hmm...not to denigrate the man's talents, but should a white guy be singing a song about being a slave?
Maybe he should haved played "Pick a Bale of Cotton," as well.

"black people weren't the only my friend."
Yeah, but for some reason I don't think Marley was describing the white slaves, who were really just being deports from England.
That might be slightly out of his realm of experience, you know what I mean?
I understand what you're saying, though.
