So it will be very very difficult to listen them then. There are digital scanners out there but they will not be able to decrypt these signals at this stage.
@bne1972 They're going to use a new radio system known as P25. Still a couple of years off, although some of the networks have been deployed in NZs largest citys and are in use with the AOS and othetr specialist groups.
You would not beleave what the police sometimes say on the scanner, they say insulting/degrading things about certain people. Also, the police lie of corse about certain speeds that they chase offenders at, and that they speed on normal conditions (no pursuit or on job) and if they go thru a speed camera they tell COMS to make a note of it so that it can be removed... (why can they speed through the camera for no reason but no one else can?)
But if they are screaming towards a domestic dispute lights on etc, and got flashed by a camera, of course they're going to wipe the ticket. I'm sure they wouldn't be able to wipe the ticket if they weren't going to a priority 1. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What if it was say your own car which was stolen or you were a victim of these crims activities.

At 2:35 you will notice COMS gets angry because the unit doesnt tell him his chase speed.
Also if a car being chased goes through red light in a dangous manner they have to abandon the chase.
