  • @deadheadkid92 I wouldn't complain if they were just like wikipedia, I would even donate if they asked for. But fuck all that shit ad shoved in my face, just stupid and forced superfluous consumerism propaganda...

  • wish i was as pretty as Bobby was back then! :)

  • drummer is trippin at 00:21

  • The lad on the guitar has a playing style quite similar to Chuck Berry. In fact this song itself reminds me of Chuck Berry, but groovier.

    Sweet.

  • This video was on MTV. Rember MTV Closet Classic Capsule they showed classic Rocks videos pre MTV it was cool. Dead performance of this gem was on Beat Club the old German TV Show

  • Happy Birthday Bob Weir!

  • This is like porn for me.

  • fuck that shity jazz this should be the intro song of snl

  • Why was this video not shown on MTV in 1987 ??? To support their comeback !

  • @whitewitchoz Comeback? Hell, they were never gone. It was just a few years between the albums Go To Heaven (1980) and In The Dark (1987) but the Grateful Dead toured during that entire time with the exception of Jerry getting sick in 1986. They played Touch Of Grey, Hell In A Bucket and the other songs that would be on In The Dark as early as 1984. I caught at least a few shows every summer from 1984 until the end in 1995 with the exception of 1986. Great times!!!!!

  • Who's Ron McKerney? ;-)

  • bill gates, ron jeremy, jim carey and chong started a band. this is good

  • @akamegawa lol it is jim carrey

  • @mstahlheber If you really think that this amazing music sucks, then go listen to Justin Beiber or some other modern shit like that. Your profile age says 18, but I'm guessing that you're somewhere around 13. Leave Jerry alone, he was an incredible man and in no way deserved to die, but you on the other hand... I could certainly say other wise.

  • @pinkTOyellow17 hey, im 14 and I love this. I share your opinion, but don´t say we all like that "music"

  • Comment removed

  • @mstahlheber lol stfu, GO HIPPIE JEWS! love, a happy jew.

  • This music sucks you people all need to stop listening in the past Jerry deserved to die hope the same happens to all you hippies! Go JEWS!

  • @mstahlheber lol bro you're jus askin for people to get pissed at you.

  • In this clip Bob looks like a combo of Jim Carrey, Nick Cave, and Goofy

  • @Django5198 Goofy? LOL.

  • This music is total CRAP

  • @dieselskyy all down to opinions man

  • @dieselskyy all down to opinions man

  • @ YouTube used to be free when it was still owned by people, not a corporation

  • Young Dead, Bob is so young.

  • sex for food....sex for food....anyone got any food?

  • I bet if I made a fist and counted how many fingers I was holding up, I would get the approximate number of people in this comment thread who have seen both the Grateful Dead and Phish and can therefore fairly assess both comparatively speaking without sounding like a f'n jagoff.

  • @griswald7 ive seen both..

  • I like banana's.. :D

  • I didn't know Ron Jeremy played the drums

  • @indierocks94 *spits milk across the room* bwaahahahahaha!

  • god bless jerry garcia

  • bobbys fuckin shredding!!

  • 11 people prrefer Friday

  • @flootisboy65 gota get down on friday! lol

  • Comment removed

  • the days of healthy Jerry. If only they'd stayed.

  • @Django5198 I know this is weird and random, but is your name a reference to Django Reinhardt?

  • @Zeppelinliveon yes yes and yes some more. I was named after that god but can't play like him

  • @Django5198 Hey, I was named after Bob Dylan, that doesn't make me any better at song writing...

  • @Zeppelinliveon so where you named Bob Dylan or Robert Zimmerman? lol

  • @tartaruga42 Well I was named Dylan out of making everyone in my family happy... My father wanted me named Dylan after Bob, my Grandfather want me named after Matt Dylan, and my mother wanted me named after some character on some show she used to watch.

  • @Zeppelinliveon man that's cool! I was just named after my father lol

  • @burningburney99 I think his playing proves he does so have a middle finger on his right hand. It's just invisible.

  • Jerry Garcia the best

  • who's got my ticket?

  • Bill Murray on drums......

  • @DylanFan1115 lol bill murray.... its kreutzmann, man.

  • @BMWproductionCo well, if by Kreutzmann, you mean Bill Muray, then sure.....

  • @DylanFan1115 hahahahaa

  • THIS SONG KICKS ACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCID!

  • 1: bob weir has the sickest guitar ever

2: the backround is the SHIOTTT

3: no one beats the Dead

    EVER

  • I'm not sure which one is my favorite..... this version or the grateful dead movie version.

  • I love the Grateful Dead with all my heart.

  • Is Pigpen even in this?

  • @lordveska yes he is

  • @lordveska yes he is you can see him at 2.47...

  • my 20th birthday falls on saturday, may 28th 1991, so i guess one more saturday night for me.

  • j'aime !!! j'adore les Grateful dead !!

  • @bluntley420 uhh...not really dude. The Dead were about playing music. They worked pretty damn hard to keep politics out of their music.

Why do you think Bob had sbd's pulled from the archives? So their releases like Dick's Picks would sell instead of people getting them for free.

People gotta make money man, nothing wrong with that. Why is so much more acceptable for a great band to hock mass produced shirts, patches, belt buckles, etc than for someone to sell shampoo?

  • ... those was the days ... !!!

  • I think Bob Weir is having some trouble handling the vocals.

  • the dead is just the best band of all time...no one else on this planet can even come close to what they did. they did not only make amazing music, they in a sence created a way of life... they had the true american dream...not the materialistic one about owning your own shit but to do exactly what you want to ...make a name for yourself and have tha many people look up to you ...and just be happy without selling out...love live the dead man...cuz i couldnt go one without the dead..peace and pot

  • Great rock and roll

  • ONE M0:00RE SATURDAY NIGHT

  • This was the first song i ever heard by them. I was 12 when i heard it and now I'm 16 and people say i have terrible taste in music? Haha really

  • @ELITExYETI Ypur taste is very good :)

  • @ELITExYETI Apparently the people who are telling you that you have terrible taste in music.....have NO taste themselves ;-)

I was 12 when I "got on the bus" in 1980..... and I've never looked back....spent from the summer of '84 through spring '87 on the road with the boys ....... - I'm 43 now .....and still GRATEFUL :-)

  • Jerry makes it look so easy.

  • 2:46 Billy from Easy rider?

  • Does the singer sound a bit like Elton John to anyone else?

  • Looks like Jim Carrey ... ^^

  • @RicHardAndHeavy Finally someone who agrees with me. Bob Weir really does look like him

  • At 0:52 the top of that skull kinda looks like...........

    Bill is an amazing drummer

  • @Django5198 i think that was the whole point

  • @TheHuMoCa Yeak I went and looked at the album cover afterwards and saw the egg covered in sperm etc. It was just a bit of a shock at first

  • jerry's looking pretty goddamn good

  • I don't know if you are serious but here goes:

Jerry lost his finger in a childhood accident when he was four, helping his older brother chop wood.

Mickey was not with the band in 1972.

  • nine people don't like special grilled cheese

  • I heard Jerry got that finger removed surgically because it kept getting in his way

  • Comment removed

  • i think bob should have had more vocals over the years.....he did wonderful in this

  • I think this show is not 5-27-72 as listed above, no show took place on that date. I think it's 4-21-72 which takes place at the Beat Club, Bremen, West Germany.

  • Careful, if you drop acid and watch this then Bobby starts to morph into Cornelius from the Planet of the Apes... But I guess that's not a bad thing, it'll just add the trippiness.

  • Where's Mickey?

  • Hey, I want a tie-dye amp too !

  • f5 does NOT work to skip commercials, GREEEEEEAT song! furthur wooooo!

  • "this ticket is melting i can't read it."

  • lsd is sweet

  • Righteous

  • this is not a myth.. The Commercial crap sucks more dick than the OP..

  • exemplary. take note kids this is how its done, writing and performance.

  • Dude thats not Jerry singing. Its Bob Weir

  • Jerry looks kinda like Jim Carey....that's awesome.

  • @schnids1605 dude i think your thinking of bobby

Jerrys the guy with lots of hair and a thick beard

  • Bobby...

  • Does anyone wanna buy my shirt? Ill sell u my shirt for a grilled cheese.

    -Stewie

  • @philyboy06 That is hillarious, I ate many a grilled cheese in the parking lot of soldier field and traded a shirt or two also.....haha

  • @philyboy06 thanx so much, i' m so hungry

  • @philyboy06 lmao

  • @philyboy06 Make it a veggie burrito and you got a deal.

  • commericals are destroying the former glory of youtube, must listen to good ole' grateful dead in order to restore my belief in a world not based on profit

  • Jerry looks great.

  • @krogmank ya i hear ya right

  • 7 people are having a bad trip

  • dude this the greatest mix fuck ever thanx yous so muches

  • its Saturday right?

  • Phish and the Dead are both equally great. Also, are nothing alike imo besides the atmosphere and fan following.

  • @Oubound898 IMO not really cuz who was first?

  • @Oubound898 hahahaha yeaaaaah, right..

  • @Oubound898

dude, technically phish ain't bad, but they're just imitating. The DEAD is the real thing- they're the original and phish will always just be a copy.

  • @xfunccarter you're a dumbass. This was psychedelic rock, not whatever the hell teeny bopper shit is. And fans of bands shouldn't hate on each other, bands like Grateful Dead played for the ideals of peace and enjoyment.

  • You know, Its really goes against everything that these guys are about when they wanna throw a fuckin ad in front of the video. !

    I'm sick of commerialism.

  • @bluntley420 How about Bobby and Mickey joining the Bohemian Club? That was horrible, I believe Bob joined in 88 and he brought Mickey soon after that. If you are not familiar with the Bohemian Club look em up.

    God Bless

  • @bluntley420 thats what keeps it free whiny. or would you like to be the one to pay to use youtube? thats how vimeo works.. go over there if you dont like it here. learn about what it is your talking about before you let bullshit flow from your mouth. i dig what your trying to say but dont be an ignorant hippy.

  • @blessiththechily douchebag

  • @bluntley420 Go get Firefox and Ad-Block Plus, no more ads :-)

  • @Colortiniz Thanks for that info Colortiniz :-) - just added it to my firefox

  • @bluntley420 what exactly is commerialism?

  • @bluntley420

Not really. I mean these guys had to making some money for they're label. Plus, then all the radio ads they've done, and music videos are against them? They're just trying to sell a few more albums to stay on the label, and keep making music.

But what confuses me, is why Anthem of the Sun and Aoxamoxoa are used, and not the album its from...

  • @bluntley420 So how much do you pay to watch the Grateful Dead on YouTube exactly? Don't answer I know. Nothing, nothing and more nothing. You sit there watching the efforts of someone else, be it the Grateful Dead or the copyright holder or the person or organisation that uploaded this magnificent live footage and complain about an advert. Blood sucker. Oh.... I assume you mean "commercialism". Have they stopped handing dictionaries out in your socialist schools today?

  • @bluntley420 That ad is what keeps the video free. Youtube and Google aren't charities.

  • @deadheadkid92 was before vevo came around

  • @deadheadkid92 exactly!! im so sick of people sayin they hate vevo

  • @deadheadkid92 Youtube are owned by google, just saying.

  • @bluntley420 its not their decision its youtubes?

  • @bluntley420 Well, an ad before the video is keeping youtube free, so I'll take it.

  • @bluntley420 then that means YOU can pay for YOUtube instead of companies who are willing to provide you with a FREE online multiuniverse on their dime.... i can dig what your saying, but maybe think things through a little more buddy.

  • @bluntley420 who isnt its so bad that they hve commercial breaks in my dreams so i only get half the dream.

  • @bluntley420 Are you serious? These guys are one of the top grossing touring acts in the history of the universe. They didn't give it away and neither does YouTube.

  • awww jerry looks like a big bear lol i wanna give him a hug

  • got the date and venue? guessing 72'

  • @Buffbodz April 21 1972 Beat Club, Bremen, West Germany. Friday night TV show.

They played Bertha, Playin in the band, Mr. Charlie, Sugaree, Truckin - The Other One, and this to finish with :-)

  • Rest in peace Jerry and Pigpen!!

  • I always wondered what the Grateful Dead were about. This is teeny bopper music.

  • @XFuncCaRteR Yeah and the next song will be a blues song, and the next jazz, and the next country, and the next psychadelic. Man your comment was such a gross over generalization, I don't know what else to say.

  • What is it about us that causes these comments to devolve into derogatory mud slinging? Some advice about life; take it or leave it, if you don't like the music you don't have to dance.

  • Killin' it in Bremen Germany on one of the most illustrious tours in history....thank you Beat Club & YouTube

  • damn, they are dead on tight, here.....

  • FFFFFFUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK!! what a great post!! i can not believe i have not found this since you posted it 8 months ago....... i wish words could be expressed through text better than my opening statement but this is awesome!!! thanks for the upload!!

  • Jerry only went up as far as the 15th fret - and in those days he still remembered how to get back down again!....... - great clip.

  • @incongra the commercial guitar only has 15 frets total. i have to say even if he did have a 24 fret guitar (which he didn't at the time with wolf, but eventually did with Rosebud) he went as far as the 20000th fret. No matter how many were alotted!

  • @GenMathis74 words fail me, what you are looking at this clip - which quite clearly shows a fender stratocaster- and saying it only has 15 frets?

  • @incongra ok bud i am a guitar player and i know most "commercial" guitars have 22 frets. Your post as to the "15th fret" i was just making small talk with you, you know, how people who love and share music do at especially these kind of shows. I was not trying to (apparantly) offend you, just conversate and respond to your remark on how awesome Jer is. I guess thats "what I are looking at this clip". lol do not be a head-stuck-in-your-ass dead head. its sad how many of those there already are.

  • @GenMathis74 haha fair comment, I'll give you that one. All my windows are broken and my love's become a toothless crone....

  • where is donna, this would have been SO much better with a tambourine in the band

  • @incongra Donna was after Pig, being that they needed another vocalist for when the amazing improv needed a break. Funny enough, after PigPen, there jams went so out into space that they needed not such a thing. I do love me some donna tho...

  • @GenMathis74 well stone me I could have sworn I saw Donna and pig on the same stage in 1972, go smoke some more.

  • @incongra haha man you really don't like people talking to you eh? And as much as i dislike stooping to a level such as the one you "corrected" me on, I now shall. Hey bud, why don't you send me a show where Pig and Donna are on the same stage. I bet you can!! But the whole reason she was full time was the missing harmony. Oh! and PLEASE!! PLEASE!! send me a show where you can hear Donna's tamborine. ha! she didn't even have a monitor for most of her time with the boys! not a competition. chill.

  • @GenMathis74 I'm a guitar player too. Bet I get to jam with Jerry before YOU do. Peace man.

  • great video, the background is out of sight

  • Awesome man!!!

  • Who needs Hart???????????????

  • Yea, man Top Notch !!

  • i worked back stage {SPECTRUM} in philly 1985-89 IBEW LU 98 and partied with these cats, real nice people

  • @delcomurf did you ever know a guy named lee? i dont know his last name but he used to hang with these dudes too. he managed to get some acid from bear that i dropped a few months ago it was gnarly

  • NOT artillery!

  • Never the greatest bunch of musicians, but god damn did they gel with each other.

  • Awesome...

  • I usually love grateful dead but I'm afraid to say, this is a shit song. But Jerry's solo is good

  • @Django5198 DUDE SHIT SONG FUCK that this is CLASSIc.........................and how can you usually love them??????????????? the dead knows their shit you should ALWAYS LOVE THEM.............i dont understand you

  • @DimebagDarrel99 You can't love every song you hear man. But the first album was fantastic. Viola lee Blues is a killer. American beauty was great, and the greatest hits was superb

  • I love how the backround doesn't change when the camera angle changes

  • jerry is quite your here, he look terrific

  • i have a love hate relationship with grateful dead. because when i was young goin through my dad's collection im like oh sweet grateful dead sounds hardcore rock (middle 90s when i got into korn and stuff) and i was dissapointed but i look back on it and im like eh there good but im goin through all of dad's grateful dead cd's and giving them another shot...why not right?

  • these guys are good,,who are they? do they tour?
