This was performed very well. I play French Horn and Mellophone. I have an easier time playing the mellophone with a trumpet mouthpiece rather than with a horn mouthpiece. I'm getting a mellophone mouthpiece soon, so I will see if that's even better for me yet.
@Clark98 i don't remember where we got the music from actually (it's been 5 years...) but i know you can get all london horn sound sheet music on the paxman site. hope this helps!
I play mellophone. Have for like 5 years, personally I like my french horn much more. My mellophone is annoying and is constantly breaking and it sucks to tune. It has more downs than it has ups unfortunately.
Wandtam2442, the sousophone is an american intrument developed by John Phillip Sousa to "replace" the tuba in a marching band capacity.
A mellophone has a similar tonal range campared to the french horn. However, the melophone is physically related to the bugle-horns, ie. tuba, flugelhorn, etc. because of the piston valves and are more conical then the horn but are easier to play than the horn. Origions are obscure but were popularized by the american company Conn in the 1950s.
A mellophone is the same as a French Horn, except for it's shape. The mellophone is used in marching bands. Americans use both tubas and sousaphones- sousaphones for marching and tubas for other concert/symphonic bands.
mellophone is like a marchign version of a french horn... like a big trumpet. susa's are completely different. i get to play one, although im not completely sure that marching is all they're for. like this song. they aren't marching...
I remember back in the day when I was in marching band, all the other mellophone players would use an actual mellophone mouthpiece, I guess I was the odd one out, due to my using a french horn mouthpiece...I guess it's just what you're used to.
Mellos are hard to play??? Whuuuut??? Ok, lets see...I got one on April 25 and by April 28 I was already playing a short tune on it (after some good cleaning) and the only horn I ever touched was my cousin's french horn over 18 years ago in High School. That one didn't even make a sound...I wonder why? You guys just aren't trying hard enough.
I don't even know what you guys are talking about.....after playing the French horn for a good 4 years before starting marching band and picking up a mellophone, the mellophone is like the easiest thing EVER! It's like going back to the days of recorder playing in general music class. Then again, going from marching season to concert season; mellophone to French horn, that makes the horn seem about a million times harder to play because you got so used to the mello being easy. bah.
I don't know why everyone's talking about how hard it is to keep a mello in tune... it's really, really easy. Keeping a horn in tune is another story, and if your "mello" is actually a marching horn then that applies. A true mellophone is basically an F trumpet, though, and is perfectly easy to tune, and have excellent tone on.
i've played french horn for 3 almost 4 years and mello for one. now mellos can be in tune.. but its a hard instrument to play.. and staying in tune for every pitch is a different story.
mellophones can be in tune, it just hard to play in tune b/c the pitches are so tight and close together and u can lose ur pitches real quick. dis my second year in band and i play mellophone.
They CAN be in tune. Your "pro" obviously isn't so "pro" after all... Or you misunderstood them.
Mellos just require a little more attention to detail than other instruments. Players must become adept at lipping notes in tune on the fly if necessary. Hell some instruments come with a "tune any note" feature, usually employed as a valve, that can help with tuning.
I've heard this suspicious rumor that mellophones can NEVER be in tune. They say its something with they way they are built. I also heard they will forever have bad intonation...
Given that midrange horns are, and have been affiliated with tuning problems, I can understand the difficulty that they might have. That being said, they should have paid more attention to intonation. My $0.02
MELLOPHONES ARE THE BEST!!!!! I don't play one but I desperately want to. They are superior to the saxophone! (What I play) I will be learning trumpet and then possibly playing mello in marching band next year. GO BRASS!
No. It's just my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. I'm just saying what I think. Stop saying stuff like that. That could really hurt somebody. Like me. I don't want to hear from you again if you're going to say things like that.
Mellos are trumpets on steroids i say. :) i love blasting peoples eardrums out.

No, I don't, and I don't need to. I am not deaf.
I should had said the arrangements of this piece are garbage.
Whoever did it bridged the Tico Tico melodies with some Spanish music, the OLE at the end is a very nice touch LOL.
If you want to hear the real Mc Coy, please check Bertha Rojas & Barbosa-Lima, Ricardo Trein or Frank Vignola versions to name a few.

We do use tubas in a concert setting. Sousaphones are more for marching band.
The mellophone is meant to replace the French Horn on the marching field. There is not much music written specifically for it.

Mellos are hard to play well is what I think they meant. They are notouriously bad for tuning especially in a temperature changing environment.
