  • 10 years ago today, RIP George

  • uh. madonna? take out your diamond encrusted notebook

  • Ah damnit never mind, Richie.

  • So if Ringo is not in the material world, does that make him god?

  • So Ringo isn't in the material world?

  • @Ariel62073

You obviously aren't paying attention. The song is about living in the material world, hence the title.

  • @subg88 That's true. It's a great song.

  • amazing song, George rules.....

  • This song is absolutely wonderful. Rest In Peace, George Harrison.

  • RIP GEORGE

  • can not believe someone do not love that fantastic tune.....

  • George rules!

  • beautiful

  • The Quiet Beatle

  • COOL SONG

  • i walked through the dunes listening to this ,73 burnham on sea ,on my tape player and wondered what was ahead, and yes it was loads of material stuff, which was gone in a trice of divorce, and now got more material stuff than before plus 3 perfect sons and no strife, having said that its very quiet on your own!

  • After 'All Things Must Pass', I think that 'Living In the Material World' is George's best album. I'm aware that is sounds 'preachy' to some, but even that kind of idiosyncratic characteristic is one of the things about George that makes his music so great.

    Thanks for posting this song.

  • awesome! I love you George:)

  • JOHN AND PAUL IN THE MATERIAL WORLD........THEN GOT RITCHIE ON A TOUR.................BEAUTIFUL.

  • @alanj7777777 IT REFERS TO KEVIN RITCHIE pr man for beatles in australia

  • @TheJUNGLESURFER No, it refers to Ringo. His real name is Richard Starkey, nicknamed RITCHIE, then eventually Rings, then eventually Ringo.

  • love...

  • Is'nt Ringo the drummer on this track?

  • "I Hope to Get Out of this Place by the Lord Sri Krsna's Grace!" Great Advice, One of his Best Songs! Jaya Srila Prabhupada, Hare Krishna, Jaya Sriman George Hari-Son!

  • @Krsna93 RIGHT ON....GEORGE KNOW THE SCORE.

  • @Krsna93

  • Good song....a little too repetative though

  • I want one of those things Ringo is wearing @ 1:20, looks awesome :)

  • Well Happy Birthday I guess and R.I.P.

  • Happy Birthday(and RIP) George Harrison!

  • One of the best his songs. Good Ringo` work on drums too.

  • One of the best songwriters to ever grace this Earth.

  • my favorite line "john and paul here in the material world" so cute :)

  • @bamol1 Along with "We got 'Richie' on a tour" which refers to Ringo aka Richard Starkey. Such great love from George. :)

  • @BlackPearlGurl agreed! i dislike when george is seen as always the cold one, he loved a lot i think

  • @bamol1 I can't see how anyone would think him cold? Sure, he was definitely the quietest of the Fab Four... but your can really feel his warmth, especially in songs like "Here Comes the Sun." I think embracing his spiritual side & learning sitar music added a lot to his life. =)

  • As any good Beatle fan knows, George was only allow one song on most albums, and he was not credited when he helped write song credited to "Lennon-McCartney", that is why he came out quickly with a couple of albums when the Beatles parted ways..."thanks for nothing Yoko". None of the Beatles ended up liking Yoko, even John had mistresses.

  • @DAVWAVE Actually, as any "good Beatle fan knows," George was allotted 1-4 songs per album and 3 on the landmark album Revolver. The only albums that he got really shortchanged on were the psychedelic albums Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour. Also, on Abbey Road, he's basically responsible for the awesome musical composition of "Octopus's Garden." Now, should he have gotten more space on each album? My vote is YES. He was usually as good and sometimes better than L&M.

  • @stampede331

Actually his stuff only got good around late '68. Songs like Only A Northern Song and Blue Jay Way during the psych period are pretty abysmal next to Lennon-McCartney.

"Awesome Octopus' Garden"? That was a joke, right? He happened to peak just as they were breaking up. Bad timing.

  • @steveconn Not a joke. The guitar runs and melody on that song are both brilliant. And yes, we're all in agreement about George not coming to fruition as a songwriter til 68. But from the white album onwards, Beatles' albums would have benefited from more George and less filler from Lennon/McCartney.

  • @stampede331

Sure - Not Guilty on Anthology 3 and the original All Things Must Pass would sounded alot better than Dig It or Wild Honey Pie.

  • @stampede331 By his own admission he didn't have enough quality songs until '68. He put most of his unused songs on All Things Must pass and after that he had very few songs of real quality released. But he added so much to Lennon and McCartney's songs with his outstanding musicianship. You can't copare him to Lennon or Mccartney in terms of quantity of top tunes but he did write a few that equalled their best,no doubt.

  • @thenowuk I think he should have had more songs per album from The White Album onwards. I know that before then he hadn't matured to L&M level. I have mentioned before, though not on this thread, that I don't think he was doing the same caliber work as J&P previous to 68.

  • @stampede331 i agree, they did not live up to my standards which are just so important. He owed all of us a better performance than the caliber of work of j&p. perhaps in the next lifetime i will ring his neck and ask him to write one more song, a song that i can put my holy stamp of approval and smug pride upon.as his work stands, i would rather sit... and thumb my nose at the naysayers.

  • @stampede331

I LOVE George, but no Beatle album would have been improved with more of his songs. "Only a Northern Song" was intended for "Sgt. Pepper", but it isn't a fraction as good as any of the other cuts. Even for most of his solo career, he was good for at most 3 songs per album, with his musicianship making up for his lesser songwriting. It helped when "Cloud Nine" came after a long dry period -- he'd built up a good reserve, and the album is a gem. (I love his work on "Octopus's"!)

  • @paleyoungman You don't think later Beatles albums would have benefited from more George. How about taking out Maggie May and putting in any song from All Things... Also, while I like One After 909, it didn't need to be included so I have the same criticism for that song. I'm a huge Beatles fan and think L/M are great. But when the same man writes Here Comes the Sun and Something for one album, you know that including more of his compositions from that era cannot detract from album quality.

  • @stampede331

Not really. ATMP works just fine as the title song of George's album. It was written during the Abbey Road sessions, and I prefer the subtle goodbye of The End as the album's closer. George already has two good tunes on Let it Be. Maggie May ain't much but it's fun and goofy. One After 909 captures the rooftop feel well.

Not Guilty might have fit on The White Album, but the songs it might have replaced include George's weaker ones. No Beatle album needs improvement IMO.

  • @paleyoungman Yeah, it's as if every song of Lennon or McCartney was so great. They worked together and that's why they were so great. After the break up NONE of them was that good any more. Harrison should have been allowed more space on albums. It's like saying that White Album was improved by Revolution 9 or Goodnight.

  • best song ever

  • I love George!!! Thank you for this :)

  • love it!

  • fuck illuminati

  • It's a spiritual life in a material world.

  • the photo at 0:26 - is there John and others at the left table?

  • George was a fascinating character. There is something transcendent in his musical legacy.

  • Great music, deep thoughtful lyrics. From a famous person who very few really understand even now.

  • I first heard this song a few years ago on the George Harrison website...and totally fell in love with it. It has such a different beat and groove to it! I love George-rest in peace friend. With his passing any hopes for any kind of Beatles reunion passed with him.

  • You know when George died, John and any chance of a reunion had been dead for 21 years.

  • @philipmazz27 i thought john died first.

  • That's what I'm saying.

  • @philipmazz27 lolz sorry

  • I've been listening to this song every chance I got for the past 3 days

  • Favorite Harrison album... even better than All Things Must Pass.

  • Hare Krsna!!!

  • This is my favorite George Harrison song. Thanks for posting!!

  • lovely video, lovely song. thank you.

  • nice song

  • great song

  • One of George's best. Spiritual and jazzy at the same time. A brilliant blend. Gotta love the play on words with "Started out quite poor, we got Richie on the tour." :)

  • 'How I pray yes I pray, that I won't get lost or go astray'

  • I am a huge GH fan. In my opinion.....George never should have abandoned the "Phil Spector" style of production. George's voice was naturally "thin" sounding and benefitted "greatly" from double tracking and echo. When he started to produce his own albums the quality went down even though the songs themselves were really good songs.

  • George was love

  • que gran canción!!!

  • why did you cut out the last solo part?

  • George is amazing...he really put alot into his songs, so does John,Paul and Ringo!

  • hare krshna

  • Always loved the line "and we got r(R)ichie on the tour.''...

  • Thank you for posting my favorite George Harrison song!!! You did a great job on the video. George said it all with this one. He gave us so much love and honesty. We miss you George.

  • I heard somewhere that it was impossible to convert to Hinduism that you were either born Hindu or not and that was that...but there are lots of Hari Krishna guys from none Indian backgrounds so how does it work? Maybe I just got the wrong end of the stick.

  • @PeelTower for Hinduism, It's not you're born Hindus. The concept is you don't convert into a Hindu. Hinduism in a way believes the concepts of different religions, like a branch religion, meaning all religions end in the same path, which in a way makes sense. George's song Any Road sums it up: "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there."

  • I LOVE YOU, GEORGE!!!

  • When I had this album, I tried putting my hands over the hands on the cover...and got a nice tingly feeling...

after that I'd ask friends to do it, and everyone had a different reaction...but everyone felt something...

guess it only works with the album cover not the cd...right size and all...try it if you can

  • Has Madonna her "Material World" lyrics from this song? Sounds so!

  • george is still great

  • i like how george mentions the 3 other beatles in this song..good message in this tune..george was the most spiritual of the beatles. the beatles are the best ever. rip john and george we miss ya..but i guess the lord decided he needed ya up there ..god bless the fab four

  • same as what i was going to say =]

glad someone else besides me caught that

  • John was mind, Paul was heart, Ringo was body, and George was soul.

  • you got that right!
