When you actually look at the insurmountable odds that Obama is facing when it comes to health care, world peace etc, I think its easy to see why he got the prize, and I fully support it.
Especially in the US, Obama needs all the political support he can get, and the rest of the world (or at least the Swedes) know that. What the message is in giving him the prize when he has he not been present for long is saying "the rest of the world supports you". The message is also for his opponents.
yeah, i agree that the prize is a good way to show support, but that's not what the prize is for. the prize is for actions that directly took a step towards ending a situation that isn't peaceful. obama made some speeches that encouraged other people to take those kind of actions, and may intend to take those actions himself, but he hasn't yet, and Nobel needs to hold off on the prize-giving until he does these things. the prize isn't for words, it's for actions.

I agree with you. It's never been an important award. However, the mere suggestion that a man in office for 14 days should get nominated and eventually win is absurd. When you actually look at the insurmountable odds that Obama is facing when it comes to health care, world peace etc, I think its easy to see why he got the prize, and I fully support it.
Especially in the US, Obama needs all the political support he can get, and the rest of the world (or at least the Swedes) know that. What the message is in giving him the prize when he has he not been present for long is saying "the rest of the world supports you". The message is also for his opponents.

yeah, i agree that the prize is a good way to show support, but that's not what the prize is for. the prize is for actions that directly took a step towards ending a situation that isn't peaceful. obama made some speeches that encouraged other people to take those kind of actions, and may intend to take those actions himself, but he hasn't yet, and Nobel needs to hold off on the prize-giving until he does these things. the prize isn't for words, it's for actions.

He's surrounded himself with way too many controversial figures and his winning of the Noble hurt him more then help. If you notice, his poll numbers got little to no lift from winning.
