  • Who urinated in Eddie's Wheaties?

  • THE STATUTE OF BIGOTRY...INTOLERANCE...INEQUALITY...THATS THE AMERICAN WAY....WHAT A FUCKING JOKE.....

  • THIS IS A VISION OF WHAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAS DONE TO AMERICA..DIRTY BLVD.SHOOT THEM AND BURY THEM FOR MANURE..THEY ARE ALL FULL OF SHIT ANYWAY..PARTY OF THE RICH AND THE UNBORN..THEY ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABORTED....ASSHOLES.....

  • @rexrockandroll Dude, you're a regular Bill Shakespeare.

  • I'm a New Yorker.

  • Lou is too KOOL for fools!

  • Comment removed

  • a succinct political commentary . I find it difficult to believe the rhetoric against it but then again I find it difficult a first world country wants to deny its citizens universal health care

  • Lou ROCKS. and "New York" is CLASSIC.

  • fucking awesome stuff. 3 chords the whole way and it's the bomb.

  • @thefrugalfan Actually, Reed songs a 4-chords...

  • @FloydyTube you sure? i thought it was a straight G-D-A riff. Looks like that's what he's playing. What am I missing?

  • @thefrugalfan I used to think so too till I heard him live ... and he explained that all the time people call him a 3-chord wonder, they miss the 4th. He then played it both ways, and you CAN hear the difference. Have another (closer) listen ;-)

  • @FloydyTube according to wikipedia he also said: "One chord is fine. Two chords is pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz."

  • @thefrugalfan Gotta love the "floating jazz key"

  • THE BEST SONG IN THE WORLD!!!!

  • Lou Reed: Without a doubt, the most overrated, vocally-challenged, clueless pseudo-intellectual leftist to ever make a fortune based solely on the gullibility of apocryphal music critics and the artless, easily impressed American public. Reed is the epitome of the arrogant, insolent "artist" who achieved success through blind luck & the blessings of a free market, capitalist society, a society he repeatedly disparages with thankless impunity. We should all be so lucky.

  • @EddieKrane7 In what way is it arrogant to suggest that there exists a disparity between rich and poor? As a member of the American public, I'm unimpressed.

  • @RandolfShanksCarter: U twisted my statement by cherry-picking one word used to describe Reed (arrogant) & singularly applying it to Reed's elementary observation that, there exists a disparity between rich & poor. A 5 year-old knows that to be true. And that disparity has been applicable to every nation in the history of mankind. Accentuating this truth in crude, vulgar lyrics is certainly Reed's right, but that doesn't make him talented; he's not. Lastly, as a member of the American Public...

  • @EddieKrane7 Reed grew up in New York and therefore wrote about it, so you stating that the disparity between rich and poor has been applicable to every nation in history is irrelevent. Reed would be an arrogant pseudo-intellectual if he wrote a social commentary about the economic and political injustices in Bosnia or somewhere. As for his "vulgar lyrics" how do you propose he should write about destitution, poverty, prostitution, child abuse and begging in a nicer way?

  • @EddieKrane7 each to their own...

  • @EddieKrane7 you are a fuckwit

  • @naomijoanroberts Thank you for your eloquent commentary.

  • @EddieKrane7 Lou Reed is also well known, if you would do your research for his philanthropy. I'll give you a moment to look into that. He also insists that his food and sustenance when on tour be locally grown, and not acquired in a corporate grocery store. He runs biodiesel touring vehicles and insists on "Green Concerts". He is not looking down with impunity. He still lives in the East Village part of the time, and was writing about his growing up and going back and its the same

  • @smackythefrog23 Well said.Your post is informative and sheds a different light on the man. That said, I still don't care for Reed's music or politics but he obviously "walks the walk" Thanks for the comments.

  • @EddieKrane7 U ARE A REAL FUCKING ASSHOLE..MUST BE A REPUBLICAN, CONSERVATIVE, BORN AGAIN(NEVER ALIVE) OR TEAPARTY ASSHOLE..DIE FUCK.......

  • @rexrockandroll Two words: Anger Management

  • @EddieKrane7 HE IS SO FUCKING SMART AND HE SHOWS HOW STUPID FUCKING PEOPLE LIKE U..THE MASSES ARE ASSES, AND U ARE A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF IT...U MUST BE A TEAPARTY ASSHOLE, OR CONSERVATIVE..YOU SHOULD ALL BE EXTERMINATED.....BYE, ASSHOLE...

  • @EddieKrane7 wow, i agree, in a way, but i also love him...so torn...he's the warhol of rock n' roll...most of his solo stuff is crap, but the velvets are the real deal

  • NEW YORK and MAGIC & LOSS is my fav, LR albu,. Tnx for this up. Cheers!

  • I keep him on the same shelf as Cash, Elvis and the rest....

  • Lou is the man!

  • "TV whores are callin' the cops out for a suck"-when I write a song, I always ask my self "what would Lou say??and then I add the word "FUCK"in a few appropriate places-just keep it real-

  • Quit the hating, the defending, the arguing, the one-upmanship. Just enjoy the Goddamned music. It's a brilliant song ...

  • geez... do we really need politics involved here? enjoy the music.. whether you agree with Lou (like I do) or not... theers other places to argue politics

  • @Debaser56789 What a load of liberal bs, Its a great song, one of my all time favs. But to blame it on Reagan is just so much bs my heads gonna explode. During Reagans 2nd term, NYS employees got 30+% in raises. Almost anyone could get a job with the State.Health Ins., sick time, hol. time, personal leave, 2/12 days pay for working Christmas. Gimme a break with this sh*t. The POTUS doesn't run the economy - he/she can only make it easier or harder for business to flourish. Less taxes=employment

  • love this one =+]

  • Fuck the haters. This is perfection.

  • one of the greatest albums of all time is Lou's New York ... every lyric is spot on.

  • Love the song, the band & those Soldano amps!

  • I was with my guitar and i come up with a wonderful riff, I played it to a friend and he said to me that is was very similar to the riff of this song, well it's not similar it's the riff of this song hehehe

  • Vintage tune

  • take a look at lou in the late 60's he was punk even then.. rock n' roll owes a lot to this bastard of a man.. get'm lou

  • @zen31999 duh he practically invented punk

  • gute darbietung

  • Imho, Lou Reed is unappreciated and overlooked as one of Rocks all time great song writers.

  • *****

  • Now this is great rock n roll!

  • @griffo1968 Sir, I speak as an idealist. A hopeless dreamer. You speak as a realist. Your point is well taken. Would that it were not true. Capitalism doesn't seem all that functional to me. The last "financial crisis" as you might know, was not ended by anything less than a world holocaust 1939-1945. Ah well. Best regards go make some more money.

  • I'll take Manhattan in a garbage bag with Latin written on it that says, "It's hard to give a shit these days."

  • "recognized" this song + album,while i was working for a local-radio-station ,around here!

for my taste, its an outstanding track+album!! of course:"late work",but still outstanding!!one of the "best" things,Lou has ever done !!!

    THANX !!!

  • Re: above comment from ten months past by lebarosky. What beautiful writing. Finest thing I've ever seen on YT. "...a great engine of human destiny and striving."

    Damn.

  • Thanks for posting this....

  • Grande

  • hello michel rathke remember me

  • btw thx to the thumbs up, and Mr. Reed is on YouTube doing some extremely complex and experimental jazz live. he is a brilliant musician and I doubt if any musician would disagree. love this band.

  • the chord progression reminds me of all i want to do by the byrds

  • Song has depth, great lyrics.

  • check out my song NIAGARA FALLS it´s like DIRTY BOULEVARD. it has the same kind of feeling. of course im lou reed fan. and by the way lou reed DONT SUCK LIVE. AUDIENCE MAID. LOU REED IS BETTER THAN ANYBODY, ESPESIALLY LIVE. SO FUCK YOU ELMER MORON.

  • Lou sucks live.

  • @Elmerturnipseed ok elmer y not just wear a 'kick me sign', or something alerting peeps that u have zero taste

  • @Elmerturnipseed Well at least, like you, he doesn't suck all the time.

  • Impressive stuff, he's not afraid to tell the truth about 2 Americas - people on the Mean Streets and folks in limousines.

  • tv whores calling the cops for a suck

  • this whole album is one of the best....from front to back

  • I don't get it. What do the fucking critics see in this guy? He can't play guitar, he definately can't sing. The shit he writes makes no sense to me. They like anything that sounds like shit. Anything that sounds good with good musicianship they seem to hate. Bunch of fucking idiots.

  • @harrycrowemusic1 Theres hundreds of bands i feel the same way about.

  • @harrycrowemusic1

Wow, dude really? Have you ever READ the lyrics to this album? I agree his singing is a notch below Dylan, as far as American Idol Standards go, but his lyricism is pretty understandable when read

  • @harrycrowemusic1

Some day, you will starve, or live is a place so poor that this song will make sense to you. If you are calling other idiots because you don't understand them, I think you need to look in the mirror to see the true idiot.

  • @harrycrowemusic1 .....hey dipshit, the "critics" have never liked "this guy".....we do....I suggest you go write some justin bieber/miley cyrus/lady gaga feces and perform it for the critics who you seem to adore...

  • @CionnaithMacRitchie Notice how this person hasn't replied to any hateful replies? It's because he/she felt satisfaction for talking trash about something he/she doesn't 'get', and just assumes that he's popular among a crowd that it's the fault of music critics over-hyping him, what a fucking laugh. It's a shame that people like harrycrowemusic1 are the average majority of youtubers.

  • Lou Reed <3 great music, a TRUE AMERICAN.

  • @cia5000 ...Hey, thanks for making a reply to my comment. Notification came to my email and when I opened it I got to listen to this track again.....

  • Scathing, devastating. Lou Reed has a talent for writing about scary things. He always has.

  • woah. ok.

  • "give me your hungry, your tired, your poor, i'll piss on them... that's what the statue of bigotry says..."

  • Comment removed

  • @Keijz74 your poor HUDDLED masses.

  • @stolin86 Sorry.

  • Love u LOU!!!<3

  • Fantastic Song. the reason i first tried playing a guitar

  • Lou makes me proud, in being from NYC, now have to cop a flight to JFK to catch a show in the big apple.... plane ticket who cares.... worth every bit of it...and for the TV whores [ tunnel bunnies ] ;) ;)

  • This gives me chills- - nyc in the old days. Man, what a time- what a tune!!!

  • Blackfoot- Fly Away

  • Nice.

  • what a great performance!!!!!

  • One of the five to bring on a desert island.

    Thank you Mr. Reed.

  • I bought th cd when it came out and couldn't get enough

  • I loved Sessions at West 54th. How did I miss this??? Damn!

  • I bet Fernando Saunders & Thunder Smith never thought they'd be Lou Reed's backing band for 25 years when they were playing in John McLaughlin's fusion group One Truth Band, but I sure am glad they are. Awesome.

  • This is poetry. A great thing about the internet, and youtube, is that so many people can listen to this, if they look, or know about it. I hope that if there is any person like Pedro ever anywhere, they can see this, and maybe they just can fly away. It certainly seems possible when you listen to Lou's ending of this song.

  • isn't this the guy who wanted all person's from Exon thrown out in a park somewhere to be publically humilated?

Why doesn't he go public about BP now.....shoot, go further and drag that great american president Obama into the mix as well...

  • "pedro found a book of magic in the garbage can..."

  • Sweet honesty!

  • Lou Reed is a genius. Geniuses are known to not be appreciated in their time. This song is more than beautiful, it's haunting. And touching.

  • Simply incredible. Why people prefer Black eyed peas or David Guetta than this?

  • @joelrcde Don't need to even go there. Lou, The Velvets doesn't need discussion. it's simple we're right, they're not only musical imbaciles, they're wrong

  • one of the best songs about anal sex that i've ever heard

  • Lou is a true artist

  • Lou Reed IS newyork's poet laureate!

  • Comment removed

  • @paolosilv Springsteen is not bad... -.-

Lou Reed is great but The Boss is awesome.

  • Pedro lives out of the Wilshire Hotel

He looks out a window without glass

The walls are made of cardboard, newspapers on his feet

His father beats him 'cause he's too tired to beg

He's got 9 brothers and sisters, they're brought up on their knees

It's hard to run when a coat hanger beats you on the things

Pedro dreams of being older and killing the old man

but that's a slim chance he's going to the boulevard

  • @dmckeon99 According to Debasser, Reagan made daddy sire 9 kids and beat 'em with a coat hanger. Liberal logic at its finest/worst. Ever heard the words 'personal responsibility' - its always someone elses fault right ? Just remember, your dope money keeps the cartels in business. The kidnappings, the beheadings, the slaughter of entire families - bought and paid for by you, not Reagan. Whos responsible for this fictional kids life? The 'father' is. Keep it in your damn pants ! SCREW LIB LOGIC

  • True genius.

  • This song has a little of all of us in, if you relate to any of it.

  • soy el padre de este correo electronico naci en el 56, es lo mejor que he oido desde hace años con mensaje reflexivo, lastima que no se pueda oir con el video VEO

  • lo mejor en muchos años que he oido

  • @alexgon998 yo no abla espaniol bien pero yo entiendo tu y este so true he does get better with age :-)

  • @rustylegiron what I wanted to say is that I have no electronic mail and utitizo of my son, I watch this video of Lou Reed and is great but it would hear Vevo system even better, I have this text translated by translator

  • Lou does Bruce Springsteen better than Bruce Springsteen.

  • Sweet, my first two heros were Neil young and Lou reed

  • the new york album is one of the records i grew up listening, even before i could fully understand the lyrics... i was a kid and my older brother was listening to it the whole time... music that's part of my life. thanks for uploading and thank you, mr. reed!!

  • lou as forgotten,

  • this rock album, New York, is one of the greatest poems written in the second half of the twentieth century. it is a paean to the death of a great city. crack cocaine, Reagan, the dominance of greed, and it all is rolled into a terrible vast ball that is the world city. my father lived in the city at mid-century and it was like a great engine of human destiny and striving. by the end of century it was a wasteland with a pastiche of fools gold laid over it.

  • @lebarosky - Couldn't have put it any better. It's a great piece of work.

  • @lebarosky You summed up this great album perfectly, well done and thank you.

  • @lebarosky --- Probably the most well thought out statement I've read in a long time. I lived here then, I live here now. It's exactly as you say it is. "You can believe it, man, it's true...."

  • @RocknRollkat: thank you but it breaks my heart. form a small community and take action. i don't live there. so sad .... so sad ....

  • @lebarosky And then Rudy came in and cleaned it all up right? :-)

  • @lebarosky THATS WHAT AMERICA HAS BECOME, A DIRTY BOULEVARD...THE LAND OF THE RICH, SHIT ON THE REST OF US..KILL THEM ALL...FUCKING RICH AND CORPORATIONS SUCK

  • @rexrockandroll

Turn your computor off and stop posting comments if you don't like corporations and the rich. They made those products you use to trash them with online.Face the facts your a hypocrite, who can't survive without the better things in life, your just mad because you don't have the drive or talent to get what they have.

  • @cosmowoorle yes it's the great american irony. remember south parks "have your cake and eat it too episode"? the gov't finally figured out if they let us complain we won't actually have the energy to cut their heads off.

  • @lebarosky I agree. I wish no music had accompanied it.

  • I'd like them to play this song when Tiger Woods Tee's off at the Masters... Kinda like as a tribute to him being a duche

  • If everyone could have a song of their choice played at their birth, what would it be ?

Obviously, we are talking about choosing it in our later life.

-Songs about where you were born & who you became...

  • I wanted this song played at my funeral but not for any obious reasons, lol

  • no se me olvida cuando vino por primera vez a mexico

  • Brilliant tune!

    Lou is the ultimate observer.

    I adimire his street poetry.

  • Lou Reed is the reason I moved to New York. The New York that he sang about no longer exists, for better or worse.

  • I love this fuckin song >:D

  • greatest versio n I know

  • Lately I've been getting into Lou Reed's music and Ralph Bakshi's films. Different mediums, but they have a similar style

  • Search Down-guasones....is a copy of this

  • if you need to comment other artist go on their page and let this God Play

  • I have seen him on this tour in Munich, Germany. Great professional quality music. So enjoyable... Thanks Lou

  • My lucky time...

  • i have seen lou on this tour in carree amsterdam with my first wife. (you cant have it all) fckn great.

  • Buenisimo Lou !!!! gracias for this great song !

    me encantan tus canciones.

  • Deja la droga Lou!!

  • ONLY LOU !!!

  • lou is a great rocker.. NY excelent disc. Come on River Plate, come on Argentina

  • couldnt agree with u more man lol

  • Lou Reed is just the America that we the rest of the world simply love.

  • I guess Lou's reaction against the shit America is part of it. Without the horror Lou would have nothing to rail against. Tough trade-off.

  • Both Lou & Bob possess distinctive originality and undeniable passion...

  • so wrong Lou reed is an awesome singer and rock n Roll writer and i think fans of bob dylan may beg to differ from you.

  • Sorry, he's a poor singer...but an absolutely amazing songwriter!

  • I agree the worst Bob Dylan songs are where he tries too hard to be musical, rather than concentrating on his guitar amd poetry.

I love Bob Dylan but he is a poet not a singer. I was gutted when I went to watch him expecting him with his harmonica and a guitar and he had a full band/ brass band behind him. Totally ruined it for me and he is one of my all time heroes.

  • Thanks Lou! This is the America I know. You speak the truth.

  • did anyone else notice the the New York album is CD+G,

i bought the CD in '89, some 7 years later i played it in a Sega Saturn and it displayed lyrics along with images of NYC, shame it doesn't work on my PC.

  • Nice! I have a newer pressing. I hope that is also CD+G. I'll try it in my DVD player and DVD recorder.

  • Serious stuff, King of serious Stuff!!!

  • I cant say I like this live version..they picked up the tempo and his voice..he is actually trying to sing it another way..terrible...sad but true..*yawns*

  • Heavy memories. Scotland Yard. 90's

Heady psylocybin times, redefinition of moving lyrical statements.

    Lou ROCKS.

  • "New York" is in my top 10 all time favorite rock albums. No one kicks reality like Lou Reed. Gritty and full of emotion and attitude.

  • I agree... Excellent album!

  • i have a lou reed video.. new york album live in montreal...pretty good shite

  • Great song by Lou

  • Awesome, powerful, rocking song. Loved the whole New York album.

  • if there was an ounce of what mr reed had then around these days ..... !! times produce what they do !! mediocrity seems the fayre of choice nowadays , make of that what we do !

  • That fascinating manic anger fuel burned out by the 80's, it seems. 90's and forward more like, cozy. Age, or wife?

  • I think both

  • great!

  • o baby u got me with this lou ! x

  • I couldn't even begin to say how much this song moves me. Long live rock! Long live Lou!

  • ouieaaaa! this is nice
