The trouble is that the Japanese don't understand that you always need to translate TO your native language. They are of the (mistaken) opinion that only a Japanese native speaker could possibly understand their language, so they invariably pick Japanese native speakers with a... less than comprehensive understanding of the target language to do their translations.

If you're not Japanese, you can pretty much forget getting a translator job in Japan (for a Japanese company anyway).

Well, that all depends on who you talk to. I myself am American and I pride myself on being one of the few people I know who strives to use correct grammar and spelling.

The majority of my countries butchering of the English language is actually a blessing for me, as it makes me seem much smarter than I really am whenever I have to turn in an essay or write a paper for any of my classes.
