Well. If your stupid enough to go on the web and look for help instead of going to the hospital or calling 911 after you get bitten by a black widow spider.. then you deserve to die
Lol. After reading up on black widows and Brown Recluse spiders , I drove to a friends house. A regular spider came down from the mirror on a spinerette and scared the crap out of me. It scampered across the passenger seat and out of sight....Poor guy.
lol I just caught one, it's on my coffee table...i've fed it 3 moths and 1 brown recluse...that was a sweet fight! Moths are lame though....widow won the fight by the way...
so what should a person do if they are in the middle of the bush or something. Where there is no hospital?that'S what i want to know. This video did not help anyone unless they are stupid. Everyone knows go to the hospital or call 911.
These videos are stupid... common sense should tell someone, "HOLY CRAP! I'M IN A LOT OF PAIN, I SHOULD GO TO THE HOSPITAL!" -_- And OBVIOUSLY you'd want to capture the thing to take with you.. otherwise the peeps probably won't adminster the anti-venom for the black widow bite..
@KatideChaos Many hospitals don't stock the anti-toxin for Black Widow bites because the it has severe side effects. They will treat the person usually with intravenous Calcium Gluconate (for muscle rigidity, especially abdominal muscles) and Morphine for pain. Other symptoms are handled as necessary.
@jsbach15 Interesting! I was bit by a Black widow about 9 years ago and I actually remeber being injected with Calcium Gluconate! What are the effects of the anti-venom?
@KatideChaos For some reasons the anti-venom carries high risk for allergic reactions, and can interfere with a lot of medicines people take. It's risky and people must be carefully monitored (heart/lungs) for any reaction. The doctor must decide if the benefit outweighs the risks; think of it as a last resort option.
@jsbach15 That's really cool actually. I find black widows to be the most fascinating spider on the planet so naturally I take interest in learning whatever I can about them. Well thanks. Peace.
Gee, thanks a lot for the complete lack of treatment info. What if I'm in the woods and get bitten? How can I or a partner treat the stupid bite? ERs aren't always readily available. Do they make anti-venom kits or something?
thanks for the CC, i hear black widow bites make it so you can't hear. btw, not helpful at all and is common sense. it's like saying, If shot in the face with a gun, elevate your head and call 911. if shot in the balls call poison control as you may get lead poisoning, elevate your balls and call 911
You WILL want to elevate the area above the heart level to stop circulation to the area and to possibly prevent the venom from getting any further into the body. Steps after bite
1. Wash area with cool water and mild soap
2. Elevate the area
3. Apply a cold compress to the area to decrease swelling and pain
4. Use Tylenol for pain as well and avoid strenuous activity after the bite.
I have had two bites. One on the wrist, the other on my arm. The bite is absolutely painless and starts to itch like a mosquito bite. when the swelling passes "mosquito bite size" and you start to feel stomach cramps and heat around the bite area, time for the doc. All they can do is inject something to help you sleep. Because you won't. The swelling, heat from the bite and stomach cramps and flu like symptoms with prevent that. But ALWAYS go to the ER. Keep the bite clean! Peroxide!
I'm confused...do people usually SEE the spider bite them? What if you get bitten and you don't know it, or it happens when you're sleeping. Nobody ever mentions that.
elevate the arm? So that the poison has a better chance of flowing from your arm into your bloostream and overall circulation? Wouldn't you want to use a tourniquet to keep the poison localized? I don't know, maybe someone can clarify.
@TheBillygibbons I reached into a water meter hole in the yard and almost touche a black widow, I killed it immediately, also some egg cases were in there, had gooey stuff inside of them.
@TheBillygibbons She's a Nurse Practitioner, and not one who is very knowledgeable about Black Widows. You're correct! The Black Widow (female only) has the "Red Hourglass" figure on it's "abdomen" (the big part of the spider). Their webs are easy to spot because the "silk" is quite chaotic, no pattern (all over the place) and is VERY, VERY sticky! They come out after dusk and like to live in pipes, bushes, under the eaves, under the lip of outdoor tables.
Only out of impulse and panic do alot of people end up stepping on it so they don't risk getting bit again. It's good to try and catch it and keep it secure and alive. The hospital can use the venom to create an anti-venom for the bite. :)
i mean lower your arms and your veins swell raise them they shrink now that blood had to go somewhere right raising the bite seems like it would the blood circulating quicker to your heart . but ehh whatever
just go to the hospital enough said!!

In my case, I didn't see the spider until immediately after it bit me. I just felt the web. It's a very strong, sticky web
charlitunaman2002 2 years ago
@sasabsabrina True, but the bite usually hurts pretty bad. Unless you are stoned, I would imagine you would feel it.

WTF this has no information on how to treat a black widow bite! She only says to go to the ER, which everyone would do.
