yeah your mids are way too prominent, ease back a little buddy... ac/dc= everything on 5, joe perry= everything round 7, mids on 10 sound like shit for classic rock... or anything for that matter.
yer cheers buddy its just that im getting a classic with the 496r and 500t and i loove your tone so im happy now lol and im savin up for a dsl 100 but hotplates are expensive as well so im gonna be savin for a long time is ur les paul like a special with the 3 pickups never seen a classic with 3 pickups
This Les Paul Classic was only available from American Musical Supply (AMS) for a short time. Sam Ash Music had a similar one in black. It has gold hardware along with the honeyburst finish and is a fun guitar to play. The pickups are suitable for any style and clean up very nicely if you set your guitar volume around 2 or 3 and use a clean or slightly crunchy channel. Good luck with the new ax!
Yes they are. I used a Maxon OD-808 overdrive pedal to push the 50W non-master Marshall a little harder. The THD Hot Plate adds to the thick tone by letting you crank the amplifier and get into output tube distortion without excessive volume. I know the tone is not accurate for this song but I loved the impact and the harmonics I was getting so I went with it for the video. I really like the 496r/500t pickups. They are like Gibson's version of the Dimarzio Super Distortion. Rock on.
The THD Hot Plate is awesome. It does exactly what it says it will do: it lets you crank your tube head without effecting your tone dramatically.
At very high attenuation levels (-12 db or more) you don't experience the pounding and thump of the cabinet that you would feel if it amp was actually pushing the speakers hard, but the Hot Plate has some tone shaping capabilities that lets you replace some of the high and low end that is lost by not pushing a lot of air with the speakers.
after watching your video, i reasearched more kiss and found the unplugged version of this. now i love it and found more good songs by them. what position are you using? i'm looking for a good les paul classic demo?
That JMP MK II is from 1976. It think '76 was the last year for the four input, non-master JMPs. It came with 6550s but I finally made the swap to EL34s which I like a lot better. More crunch, more sweet mids. The 6550s were very clean and the amp would only start to break up when dimed which was always too loud. Now I have useable overdrive down around 3 or 4, which is how I think most Marshalls respond.
your structure is structureless (for some this is not something you CAN learn, so this isn't a diss), my best advise is tap to the radio, just think about a beat and the time in between, the significants of silence in a song.. as you do an uninterrupted cord, or missed note. These are just as valuable in music
Thanks OSK! I have a few Pauls. Ace was a big influence in that regard. I recently picked up the Iceman. It's a IC400 with some mods to it to make it resemble a PS-10. KAMN Guitars sells the mirrored parts. Real PS-10s are too much money! :)
The Classic has Gibson's ceramic pickups, the 500T bridge and the 496T neck. They are killer for heavy blues, classic rock, and metal. You can get a cool clean sound out of them too. I recommend the Classic because it's more affordable than a Standard and to me rocks just a little harder. Good luck!
Actually im pretty sure they come with the 57' classic and 57' plus classic humbuckers...the only gibson guitars that usually come with a 500t and 496r are the explorers and the V's.. not sure why the 500t is super hot and sounds awsome for heavy stuff... ROCK ON DUDE
The middle pickup works when the pickup selector is in the middle position. It enables both the bridge and middle pickup together. It gives a nice "out of phase" tone since the two pickups are close together.
It actually came that way. Musician's Friend offered these exclusively for a short time. Honeyburst finish, gold hardware, and two 496R and one 500T humbucker. I saw one on ebay recently, but they don't turn up often. Sam Ash also had an exclusive three pickup Classic, but theirs was ebony.
I'm just starting to learn some Kiss tunes. Your video is a solid guide and the tone is excellent. Like i said, i'm just starting to learn some Kiss tunes. They are fairly easy to play once you learn them. The chord structure being played is made for the easiest playing, yet sounds gold. Congrats on the vid, sounds great to me. :)
The challenge when playing a KISS song correctly is timing. Paul and Ace played with a lot of FEEL. Ahead of the beat, sometimes behind the beat, etc. They did a lot of subtle things that you have to reproduce if you want to really nail their songs. They layered chord inversions on top of each to create that classic guitar sound. But most important of all, KISS songs are a lot of fun to play!
Close, but wrong.

Does the Attenuator mess with your tone much? I have a 50 watt mesa stiletto ace, and it is a tad loud.
I was pretty interseted in the hotplate atenuators so fill me in.
Thanks

hey man, awesome demo, can i please know what finish that is, its beautiful, ty :)...
glitchflip 4 years ago
Hi GF,
The finish is Gibson's "Honeyburst". It's way more subtle than a typical "sunburst" yet has the same cool vibe.
Thanks for the comment.

Sounds dynamite. Nice job. You should update this with the solo as well.
In the intro on the D-string I bend the F# (4th fret) up to a G because it seems to sound like that's what happening on the original recording.
