Excellent, excellent quality on this video, thanks for posting! I remember those World Champs like it was yesterday and this race in particular. In the US, the broadcast prominently figured Guinness as an advertiser, so I still get thirsty thinking about those late night telecasts! Harald Schmid was The Man back then, too. World class at 400, 400H and 800. Edwin could've used a bit of that 800 meter endurance down the homestretch in this race. I guess this was Moses' last big win.
Big Edwin - was was 32 years of age in September of 1987 - ran absolutely brilliantly for the first 300 metres of that race; if only he had been able to maintain his scintillating form down the home straight, he would have returned a fantastic time - probably under 47.00 secs.
As it was, his actual time was 47.46 seconds - very respectable for a 25-year-old hurdler in the prime of his life. Moses, however, was 7 years older than that ... and thus approaching middle-age. Wow!
@generalhans1 thats not enough to make a statement like that and call into question this legends achievements. Sure every top athlete is questioned at one time or another, but in Moses' case he was never really placed under the microscope.
Simply the greatest of all time in this event and a class act both on and off the track. You are a role model Edwin an excellent student and athlete out of Morehouse College. Way to represent a HBCU!!! 1976 Olympic Gold!!!! and 1984!
400 IH one of the few men's events in which there hasn't been any improvement in performances at the elite level in many, many years. It's just such a difficult and brutal event that it takes a special kind of athlete. Trememdous respect for Edwin Moses for making it his own for so many years.

@htownhomie06
yet he cheated in 1987 and should have been disqualified like Dayron Robles 24 yerars later.
He pushed Schmid back.
Clear to see and no doubt about it.
Shame on this victory.
He just did not deserve it.
