This came out really well. The video is like-able, in a way, with nice driving footage and unbelievably cheesy effects. Great song; too bad it was so easily confused with Linda Rondstatd's much less interesting cut. I think Steve Miller's best work was from the early '80s, but it's no surprise that he didn't have as many big hits, with pop music moving away from the rockabilly stuff that he does best.
This video represents a time when the chrome was thick and the women were strait! This was back when women werent such man haters corrupted by Oprah's fat ass. They were just a hell of alot more attractive back then that you were actually inspired to write songs about them and consider giving up your Corvette for one. These days. Not a chance in hell!
@Xcorgi Wow man!!..This is what I call hitting the nail on the head!!..Everything you said is truer than true. Especially about 80s women being attractive. I can't stand looking at all the "Flabber-skanks" walking around nowadays. They think they're hot and they know their not!
@INISHMORE1974 Yep all that and the big difference is back then, women actually wanted to be with men get married and stay married. Now they get married, have a couple kids then take you for all your worth and destroy you financially and leave you in the gutter. Sadly, that's thier only motive anymore. But hey, if you dont get re-married you can eventually get another nice hot rod that she can't get in the settlement. LOL! By the way, mine didn't get my Strat or my Les Paul
@Xcorgi I know what you're saying. I've been down that road once and I'm not going to the mistake of marriage ever again. It was one and done with that BS.
@zapdelivers "Flabber-Skanks" was something that flew out of my mouth when I was really drunk one night years ago when this monstrosity of a woman wouldn't stop hitting on me. My friends were razzing me about it. So I told my friend Paul "You go get naked with that flabber-skank then if you think she's so sexy" I actually meant to say Flabby Skank. For whatever reason that word then became commonplace in my circle of friends for a few years.
Ahhh...now I understand all the business with the gas pump/dipstick! I did not get the sexual symbolism when I was 10 years old! LOL! Thanks for posting this most excellent Steve Miller song.
@ukedildo First time I've seen this video in probably 30 years. I didn't get the sexual stuff either until I saw it today. (I was about 10 years old at that time)
Back in 1983 it seemed I was the only one that liked this song.I couldn't figure out why. Compare this to 2011 and its better than all the crap out there now. Its a great guitar piece with nice video. Pretty girl too :)
@yOuGoTiPoDeD I actually remember when this was a world premier video on MTV! Man this song has awesome Strat tone all over it! No one in school ever heard of it because I guess they didnt have MTV just yet. This is my favorite Steve Miller song! Great retro 50's surf sound, killer Corvettes and a hot chick! MTV today howvever is ruined by no-talent rappers and white people acting black. Just disgusting. The talent pool has really dried up compared to back then.
@Xcorgi Once again, you've hit the nail right on the head! ....What ever happened to the days when MTV actually played quality vids? I miss those days.
@Xcorgi This is my very favorite Steve Miller's song, also love 60s surf style sound and red corvettes too. But why messing this beautiful moment with such race-related comment? It simply doesn't make any sense at all. Enjoy music
Thank you autopsykitchen...never got to see this video back in the day...for just a few minutes I (and probably everyone else who watched it)can remember what it was like to be young....back when music meant something.THANKS!!!!!
Been yearning to see this video again for nearly twenty-five years. I don't know where the hell you found it and I don't care. Thanks a million for uploading it, autopsykitchen.
This song is fantastic.Always loved it.Great sound quality .Thanks for posting. The video itself is pretty bad I have to say.I wonder who thought it up.
I LOVE this song!! I haven't heard it since junior high, in the early, early days of MTV. But I remembered those shimmering, jangling guitar riffs and all the tremolo and reverb. It made quite an impression on me!
Been looking for this for ages, and it still sounds as fun and fresh as I remember (and hoped).
Reached # 24 in the fall of 1981 (U.S., Billboard).

A woman seemingly seeks comfort ,security...hope and tightness.
All the rest happend just "by the way" ,so it seems , and might turn out REALLY WRONG.

Wasn't the actress in this video later one of the main characters in 'All My Children'? She certainly resembles a character in that show.
