I have owned a Honda, and know many people that own and have owned them as well. The thing that always goes on them is the transmission. It starts to slip after a while.
@lockhartsamuel first off ur grammer is terrible, second, hondas don't get the greatest gas mileage, usually gm leads the way for that. a honda pilot has the same epa fuel economy rating as a chevy silverado 1500 with a 5.3L v8. and the honda pilot is no match for a hemi jeep grand cherokee, 357hp vs 244hp, easy choice there.
@Evolution9750 Dude, are you kidding? Im pretty sure a Honda would outlast any GM car on the road today. Im not sure where your getting this information from but as a proud owner of a 09 Honda Civic, it has gotten WAY more miles on one tank then my friend's brand new GM vehicles.
@shminghong Different cars have different size gas tanks, it also depends on the different ways people drive, fuel economy varies greatly there. And I would be willing to bet that the last time you owned an American car if ever was probably over 20 years ago. Loose your import biased view-point and walk into a GM or Ford dealer and look at the cars today, I guarantee you will be impressed. Hondas have problems just like any other car, they don't have alien technologies that make them superior
Great car. Very reliable and the only reason it would break down is because kids do time trials with it all the time and then post them on youtube. 4runners are great too but there's nothing wrong with buying a new pilot.
I guess the honda cant hold it self together after being repaired by a body shop. even if it was a crappy job they did, i think that a transmission on a real suv would not need to have the tranny repaired. shoulda gotten a seqouia.
Yikes. My sister had a DVD/New Radio system put in her SUV and the guy tapped into the main wiring for the main computer for it and completely ruined her system ($4,500+) She's about to go see them w/ backing from the dealer that's got it in the shop....
I had been in a wreck many months ago. The auto shop didn't put something back together right which eventually causes something to wear wrong and that caused a slow fluid leak which then causes the tranny to go.
This had nothing to do with Honda. It had everything to do with the body shop that put it back together again after a wreck. Could have happened to any make or model.
No not end of story. Neither Honda or Toyota build poor cars. We have had Toyotas and Hondas that have lasted for ever. Give an example of how the Pilot is a hunk of shit... a good example.
car engine. car based. not what a real suv is. it's not just the pilot. it's every car based suv on the market. though i do like some hondas. i did like the passport even though it was an isuzu :P but i do not hate hondas just that they cant build a real suv without the help of another company
I agree with you on that. Honda is excellent at making car based SUVs. Which is what most people need. There will always be a need for real body on frame SUVs though. Just because it is car based does not mean they are a bad car. I can send you a video of a 2009 Pilot off road though. Its not a hard course but it doesn't do that bad. The strange thing is that most people consider a Grand Cherokee an SUV but by you're definition it would be a car. It's unibody belive it or not.
@ilRosewood how did u not notice the car leaking transmission fluid everytime u parked it? my dad had a 2001 honda odyssey and the transmission went out at 32k miles on it and it had never been in an accident. honda had a lot of problems with premature transmission failures in the late 90s/early 00s with their 4 and 5 speed automatics on cars with v6 engines.
You should take it to your Honda dealer to get it checked out. If you made this in the winter, then the Pilot has a tendency to act like that when it's cold out. Try revving it a few times (4500-5000 rpms) before you drive off and the engine should warm right up.

@BlueRS Exactly. My family's Odyssey's transmission died at 90-100,000 miles. That was the only major problem with it.

Time to change the timing belt, or start looking for a new Honda soon!!! Average people buying a new vehicle are 5 to 6 years!!!

So dodge suck i betcha honda sell more and get better fuel economy. But you know what a honda pilot will probably smoke some of dodge cars.

i know what the problem is .... its a honda . the cure is to smash it and buy a dodge. lol jk i dont know
aghasouren 2 years ago
Either its not holding the gear or its not switching. Try getting a new torque converter or just a new trans.

it's not hondas fault..

because hondas are somewhat better. The transmition was not made by them. Thus it isnt there fault.

We bought a honda because we wanted a larger midsize SUV and the highlander was too small and the Sequoia was too big. We bought the Pilot.

just buy a newer 4runner. common sense
BuhundredReturns 2 years ago
The Pilot is larger...common sense.
And don't say its not it is. I just checked the stats. We use the 3rd row a lot and Pilot's is much larger.
gp40mc 2 years ago
The 4runner is too close to the highlander in size.

they are a bit larger, but at least they're not hunks of shit. end of story

Yes it does. We have it. I don't think I'd take it beyond much more than that though.
